Evolution Themed Tabletop Games
« on: August 09, 2012, 04:27:12 pm »
After buying the game "Evolution: The Origin of Species" last month I have been looking for other evolution themed games and I though I would share them with you.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jp2K4hBWT9c" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jp2K4hBWT9c</a>

Dominant Species - You play as either the Mammals, Birds, Reptiles, Arachnids or Insects. You play until the Ice Age hits.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqi409nmreA" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqi409nmreA</a>

- Evo - You play as Dinosaurs with various adaptions. The game ends when the meteor hits.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1nEaHjKWwA" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1nEaHjKWwA</a>

- Evolution: The Origin of Species - You mix and match traits to make creatures. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOiO98Qh_ZE" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOiO98Qh_ZE</a>

- Phylo - An ecosystem building game. Where you make food webs and stuff.

Quirks - I don't know much about this other than it was published in 1980 and it looks a lot like the cards in the game Sim Life.

Has any one else played these or know of other Evolution themed Tabletop games?

That Quirks game looks so novel; I like it!

I'm only familiar with a handful of boardgames though, so I can't add any to this incredibly specific pile.

After further research I discovered 2 reviews of Quirks that explain the game.

1. Quirks- the game of un-natural selection!
2. Hey, that’s one funky lookin’ dog, man

I understand the basic concept but without actually seeing all the parts and it in action I do not think I can fully appreciated the game. I am tempted to make my own set using note cards. Or even dish out the cash for an e-bay copy. It seems like such a unique and cool game. The art alone goes up there with the old 80's Dougal Dixon book art.

I found another game called Creatures. It looks very similar to Quirks, however it came out last year I think. Maybe I can find the rules on this. The art is very simplistic and cartoon-ish. I like the art of Quirks much better.

EDIT: Here are the rules ...

I wonder how difficult it would be for you to mock up a Sagan IV version.

@Brandonazz

The hardest part would be picking the creature strengths if I was to make a Sagan 4 version.
