Sol - An Interactive Aurora AAR
« on: July 22, 2012, 04:56:53 am »
HI everyone, so I have been playing a lot of Aurora recently (a 4x space game very much in the vein of DF in its complexity) and I have been reading a lot of the fiction on the Aurora forums, and so forth and found it quite compelling. So I thought I should stop lurking and perhaps an interactive AAR would be quite a good idea. The idea in my head is that ill continue playing the game and so forth, posting updates here (the first one is already done and rather long), but people can input however they like, want to sign up to the USA space corp and do something useful. Go for it. Ill throw you in as a character assign you to a ship and watch you get blown to smithereens by the Russians, or chinese, or the Aztecs, or the Europeans, or maybe the Japanese...If the Japs dont get you maybe the black hole will. Anyway Ill post the first update here and if theres any interest so be it i've played a month of this game so far anyway here it is in all its glory.

PS Expect a wall of text in the next post.

The Nations of Earth, and the events of January 2012

United European Federation – Population 502M

Brief History
IN 2011 the EU banded together, and signed a new constitution, the Berlin treaty created a single sovereign state in Europe made up of a parliament of representatives from each country, it unified the military, industry, and research of each of the countries, as well as the wealth and economy. This was in response to the economic mess the Euro was enduring and greater control was needed, it put the EU on par with America technologically (even pulling away slightly) and industrially but was still lacking behind militarily.

Military Forces January 2012

10x ICBM Complexes
3x UEF Armour Units (Low-tech Armour)
5x UEF Infantry Units (LT Infantry)

United States of America – Population 474M

Brief History
With the debt problems also raging in America a similar solution was reached, the constitution was extended over Canada and Central America, pulling in everything that wasn’t strictly New Aztec territory. Militarily America was still the leading super power, although with China’s massive population and Japans massive technological prowess it was still a little behind, but very much the leading super power.

Military Forces Jan 2012

13x ICBM Complexes
4x US Armour Units (Low Tech Armour)
9x USMC Units (Low Tech Infantry)

Industry Jan 2012

5x Maintenance Facilities
1050x Conventional Industry
7x Research Labs
1x Ground Force Training Centre

Shipyard Facilities

NASA SYF: 2 Slipways Capacity 1250

United Russian States – Population 249M

Brief History
With Russia supporting the Middle Eastern countries during the riots, rebellions, and revolt in the latter half of 2011 (Yes I know a year earlier, but what the hell it’s easier and I prefer 2012 as a start date). Closer and Closer links to the eastern states were nurtured and eventually they joined with Russia forming an almost second USSR although this time without the communism, this boosted the population of the Russian states, and its industrial and technological as well as economic stability, although not to the levels enjoyed by the UEF or USA

Military Might Jan 2012

2x Russian Tank Units (Low Tech)
4x Russian Infantry Units (Low Tech)
9x Missile Complexes

Industrial Power Jan 2012

5x Maintenance Facilities
500x Conventional Industry
2x Research Labs
1x Ground Force Training Centre

Shipyard Complexes

Yuri Gagarin SYC: 2 Slipways capacity 750

New Aztec Empire – Population 257M

Brief History
The New Aztec Empire is a misnomer due to the old Aztecs occupying the Yucatan peninsula and the area of Mexico and Central America, both of which joined USA under its new constitution. However south America had its own solution, in 2010 Brazil and Argentina joined together their combined military might, and under a blitzkrieg campaign crushed, annexed and took all the land of south America, the initial name given to the newly formed empire was going to be the Brazilian Imperial Territories, however brazil’s ally Argentina was rather against this, and threatened to retaliate so the agreement came that it should be known as the New Aztec Empire. The world didn’t care nor attempt to prevent the wars in south America, due to the priorities of the governments in balancing the books, and Russia and Chinas diplomatic pressure urging the world to let the south Americans sort it out for themselves. The result was a stronger south America, under the newly formed imperial council, and while not a super power in technology, or its military, or even its industry, it had the aspirations to improve its lot.

Military Might Jan 2012

2x Armour Units – 1 from Brazil 1 from Argentina

Japanese Alliance – Population 339M

Brief History
The Japanese alliance is the combination of Korean, Japanese, Taiwanese, and Indonesian peoples (although not all of them), while not a combined sovereign state like the UEF, USA, or the URS, they do share the industry, and research of each other in a full treaty. Technologically Japan is the leading nation in the world, however militarily, and industrially it is lacking somewhat.

Military Might Jan 2012

2x Japanese Armour Units
5x Japanese Infantry Units
3x Missile Complexes

Industrial Power Jan 2012

5x Maintenance Facilities
510x Conventional Industry
10x Research Labs

China – Population 1300M

Brief History
The economic situation that affected the western world, and much of the rest of it was not as severe to the Chinese. This was in part due to the much more industrial export based economy, this resulted in a strong superpower leaving the crisis with the largest population of any of the nations of earth, due to this monstrous population and industry, they have a strong research base, although not as strong as the UEF or USA, alongside this they have a massive ground forces although still an average number of missile complexes.

Military Might Jan 2012

13x Peoples Infantry Unit
7x Peoples Tank Unit
7x Missile Complexes

Industrial Power Jan 2012

5x Maintenance Facilities
3120x Conventional Industry

South African Union – Population 800M

Brief History
In response to the other nations banding together, to not be left behind south Africa employed a mix of strategies, while it maintained strong relations with other ex British colonial provinces it diplomatically joined with them forming the African Union, and then combining their military forces they forcibly took over the remaining nations. Africa was united from the south with exception of a few North African states which joined Russia. The union on a whole was on par with the South American new Aztec empire.

January 2012

The events on Earth moved swiftly, within days of each other after a Christmas discovery by some undergraduate in Europe of the TN theory, almost every nation on earth and all of the super powers began research into Trans-Newtonian tech. The superpowers diverted all there respective research budgets into TN theories, with exception of China and Japan which wished to keep the economic advantages they had gained and where still researching various technology with the aim of increasing the civilian economy by as much as 20%.

While they did have two projects on the go, Chinas manpower and specialisation of one of its scientists gave it the ability to do this, while Japans technological advancement and number of labs gave it the ability to try splitting its resources. A few weeks later both governments decided that rather than a 50:50 split with the research projects it was far more beneficial to prioritize one so  they put more of the available research budget into the TN tech, and moved the expansion technology onto a back burner, but still left it burning.

With the end of January turning up, Russia with its pitiful number of research labs realised that it was going to be behind, so returning to a rather cold war policy, the USR organized a KGB team of agents, and sent them into America to try and dig up as much useful information as possible, to keep the Russians in the game.

While the almost parallel research projects where being undertaken, the governments of Earth almost all had very similar industrial goals... Financial centres where the number one priority of almost every nation, with exception of China. Who while was ordering the construction of 5 financial centres; they had also ordered a new Military Academy.  Every other nation was building its own brace of financial centres either singularly then reassessing in a few months time when it was complete, or building multiple and then improvising if something came up.

By the end of January a solid estimated completion date of TN tech was published to the governing bodies of each Nation, and was as follows.

South African Union (SAU) –TN Tech 16th of January 2013 – Project undertaken by Leandre Blignaut

China – TN tech 28th of November 2012 – Chiang Ni Jian
Civilian Tech estimated sometime in the mid 2030’s – Luo Feng Lan

Japanese Alliance (JA) – TN Tech 19th of July 2012 – Kato Yukimura

Civilian Tech sometime late 2018 – Inao Naoshige
New Aztec Empire – TN Tech 13th of June 2013- Tlacahuepan

United European Federation (EUF) – TN Tech 12th of June 2012 – Naomi Chambers

United States of America (USA) – TN Tech 14th of August 2012 – Daniel Rigano

United Russian States (URS) – TN Tech 1st of January 2014 – Olga Aksyonov
Hoping to be completed earlier with espionage efforts by KGB Team Alpha under Kapitan vtorogo ranga Pavlusha Kislyov
