E3 - 2012
« on: June 02, 2012, 01:54:15 pm »
Alright jackbags, it's that time of year once again! E3 is starting in a few days. June 4th to be exact (though the show floor opens on the 5th). And the show will run until the 7th. Here's the Big Three conference schedule...

Microsoft: June 4 at 9:30 AM Pacific (16:30 GMT)
Sony: June 4 at 6:00 PM Pacific (1:00 GMT)
Nintendo: June 5 at 9:00 AM Pacific (16:00 GMT)

Pretty sure the GMT times are correct. If not, let us know. Also, if you want the times for the EA and Ubisoft shows you can look them up yourself. Fair warning, they almost always blow.

Conference Streams:
GameTrailers and Spike have their site which has been solid the last two years and doesn't have many technical issues. Except that GT and Spike are involved...
GameSpot coverage is here and they usually do a pretty decent job of hosting.
IGN has live coverage as well and they've always been fairly reliable.
Nintendo's E3 stream is here but this is the first year they're offering a comprehensive stream so the quality of it is up in the air. They made an attempt at it last year and it was spotty, so it could go either way.
Sony also has a stream and I can't recall them having one before so no word on the quality.
Microsoft set up this site which should be a stream, though it isn't very clear. You can also watch on Xbox Live if you have a gold membership.

Raw Information (aka: cluster****):
4chan's /v/ usually has good, if not chaotic globs of information and speculation. As well, they're also good at finding or setting up alternative ways to view the conferences.
Reddit's r/gaming is also good for a slightly more-focused version of events, though it is still pretty chaotic.
Reddit's r/gamernews is a bit more sedated and makes an attempt to keep the chaotic garbage out of the mix.
RockPaperShotgun for all your PC news and discussion.
Develop is more of a developer-centric site and usually has a more-informed opinion on things. Usually...
Gamasutra is alright. They tend to be a bit more button-down.
The Penny Arcade Report doesn't update that often, but the quality of their articles is generally fantastic.
Ars Technica will also be reporting on E3. They tend to keep things professional and aren't afraid to throw technical jargon in your facehole.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. If you have any other info to throw down, do it son! Oh, and during the course of events please be kind and ask the room if there is anyone present that hasn't heard the day's news yet. Some of us have work this year and won't be able to see any of the conferences and WOULD NOT LIKE THE NEWS SPOILED, CELDUR. <3

SO! That's all of that. We usually all congregate in the Gaming Steve IRC channel to discuss the conferences live. Click here to connect to the GS IRC channel via your browser! Or find us on whatever IRC client you use.

Here's hoping it's a good show this year! :D

Nice post!

Seems like I'll be able to catch two of the three major presentations live. Even though I'll have to go eat dinner during them, I hope I can catch most of it. Should be fun :)

For those interested, EA's presentation is at 1:00PM PT / 20:00 GMT on June 4th, and Ubisoft's starts two hours after that. You're probably best avoiding at least Ubisoft's presentation though, the dude that presented it last year still makes me annoyed.

Yeah... last year's Ubisoft presentation was just embarrassing and annoying. EA's was only boring. :P

Then again, piling on all the fail can be pretty fun in IRC.

OH HEY!

Nintendo is announcing something tomorrow. Rumor is that the Wii U will be revealed. And the implication by Nintendo that their conference will be ALL games. Not hardware.

OH****WUTNOW?? NINTENDO GONNA WIN!!!

Well, it's a good design I guess.
But.. it's pretty damn boring.

Watched the Nintendo Pre E3 thing, some neat things with the controller, but I need to see some games before I'll bite.
I need a new tag.
