Neat.

They also posted a thing about shields.
http://playstarbound.com/combat-part-1-shields/

One thing in particular stood out, and it's something I've bitched about in the past in dealing with other games:
Quote
Touching (most) enemies in Starbound wont damage the player directly, instead enemies must go through an attack animation to damage the player. This opens up the gameplay massively to blocking and counter attacks. And thats where shields come in.

It's a cool little read.
And yeah, not a fan of contact damage. Old convention of gaming that can ideally be handled exactly the way they're doing it.
Whoop.

Did I also notice the avatar climbing one-tile inclines, like a natural staircase, instead of having to jump? I think I did. That was something Terraria sorely needed.
I'm not particularly stoked for Starbound, but I get the feeling that it will be pretty solid and worth buying. If I wasn't so lazy I might even enter that monster-design competition. 6 more days to get my ass into gear...

They've been talking about biomes and tree variety recently, asking people how they feel about how it all looks.
Some pretty nice suggestions from folks in the comments, some talking about true variety from completely bizarre nonstandard vegetation. Stuff we wouldn't expect, odd formations we might not even recognize as trees on such strange worlds.
If you go there to see what some of them are saying, sorting the comments by best rating gets you some pretty neat ideas.

Some stuff about their first playable race (besides humans I figure), Avians.
Bird-people basically. Bit of backstory in there, and stuff.

Couple of pictures too from a test.

I'm likely to get this just to get the "New Terraria" effect, regardless of actual quality...

Also, if anyone was wondering what's up with Blue, Redigit's buddy during the development of Terraria, you can read here.
Dunno if any of you even know about the ruckus surrounding this guy and /v/'s irrational hatred for the poor bastard.

Next, Im proud to announce that we have a few more talented musicians joining our team. Both Radiation and Solatrus have generously agreed to help us with music for Starbound.
You may know them from the Homestuck Music Team.

That's what they're looking to do, yes.
