Oh, one other thing.

A while ago wizard wrote a super neato script for IRC which generates fantasy languages. It is super easy to use with languages that have already been generated, and it is pretty easy to generate your own new ones from scratch. For more information about this drop into the #gamingsteve IRC channel on the centralchat server and bug Mr Wizard about it.

Example:

"Making languages with wizard scripts is super fun and you should do it"

*script magic into Nalori*

"Uchuba iutheba icara tuhqu unaicib on onti ibanbi intao queqihu tuuar uc la."

I'll take Loth Ri.
Nefarious?  Nearly.  Ne’er-do-well?  Never!  Neither nearly names this narrator.  Naive and knowledgeable, notorious and inscrutable, this nascent Nero is known naturally as Neoadept.

I'll take the Plains of Muln.

EDIT: It also seems like the combat system is tilted in favor of the attacker. No matter the outcome, both sides will lose the same number of points. If the attacker ends up winning, they lose the same amount of points as the defender and get the conquered territory. Is this more of an offensive game?

Also, will the combatants know the bidding levels of their adversaries?

Oh, wow, you changed that.  That's even worse than the exploitable defensive retreat option the original rule set had.  It'll definitely discourage the use of overwhelming force, but it seems a bit...  Crude.

There are more defensive bonuses, and they do not count toward casualties, and they can be used in every single battle.

Attacking bonuses are uncommon and used once per turn.

What Brandon said.

The system here isn't perfect but it should definitely be better than what we had before, which somehow managed to combine a shocking amount of arbitraryness with encouraging a lot of people to overinvest insanely in the military to the point where everything just became a horrible dogpile of huge battles.

If the inbalance between attacker and defender is too extreme then it will be rectified during the game.

If not then its a little unfair and everyone will just have to deal with it.  8)

And yes Josasa, all bids will be open and public.

Ok, hopefully get the game thread up and running today. Just waiting on Brandon to tell me what territory he wants to start in (if he's even playing, which I assume he is).

Screw it, late arrivals can be slotted in easily enough. Time to roll up people's starting power points!

Game thread is live. Happy playing everyone!
