Well it is beginning to look like Guild Wars 2 might implode. It is almost 6 weeks after the release expansion pack and core parts of the expansion are still horribly broken. Anet has begun removing animations and special effects that were offered in the expansion, apparently to make the game more E-Sports friendly, while those core problems have not been addressed. An increasing number of things that Anet has addressed have not been bugs but things players consider as making the game more anti-player.
Dungeon loot was nerfed, and Fractal loot was supposed to be boosted to compensate. Instead, Fractal loot was apparently accidentally nerfed and intentionally turned into a gold sink, and players have been waiting over a month with no fix.
Guild Halls turned out to be a monstrous planned gold sink, and many guilds that were excited about them have decided they are not worth it. Even the largest guilds are still struggling to earn back the guild bonuses and functionality that they had earned before the expansion.
Precursor crafting turned out to be another gold sink, with the cost of completing a precursor to be higher than just buying it in the Trading Post, instead of the Anet goal of 100g.
The main Heart of Thorns story line ends with an instance so buggy that it often cannot be completed, and often the only way to try again is to restart the entire instance which includes a series of mobs and dialogs, then two pre-bosses, all of which can take 20-30m before the game breaking bugs happen.
World vs World upgrades for the expansion drove hordes of players away from World vs World, and players are left waiting for Anet's new "plans to overhaul WvW".
Most of the new content is not single player friendly, and requires a large somewhat coordinated map, and significant time investment. Rewards can be lost during this time if a player disconnects and rewards can be reduced if a player has to keep running across a map because of a death. This is significant since the event locations can be remote and require considerable effort to get back to.
I am sure the list goes on and on. Time will hopefully address these issues but at the same time Anet keeps bungling their economic model, and doing really stupid things with the gem store offerings. A lot of players are upset that Anet took their concerned about character slots coming with the expansion and decided it was a good way to milk players out of another $25-$30 worth of gems for a single character slot bundled with "deluxe edition junk"... as a consequence of that, Anet also has removed character slots from their gem store sale rotation, which is ludicrous since buying a single character slot is not enough character slots for a large number of players. Anet is also bundling new gem store items for similar $20+ prices without offering the items individually, trying to coerce larger purchases. This increasing seems to be driving players away from participating in the economic model side of the game, and make some worried that when that expansion money runs out Guild Wars 2 will fade away.
I love this game, but I am finding it harder and harder to enjoy... and keep walking away to do other things.
