MineCon
« on: September 22, 2011, 10:04:32 am »
Is anyone else going to MineCon in Las Vegas? Ovi and I are going and I'm getting so excited. Found out today that we get free cloaks as swag. We also get free codes to Cobalt and Scrolls. Hoping to meet the Mojang team and get photos. If anyone else is going, let us know and we'll hang out.

 :D

Not sure which one to vote for...

I'd love to go but I can't afford that.

Really want the cape, though. Been playing long enough, dammit!!

2, 3, or 5. Hope you crazy kids have fun out there. I heard that Vas Legas is a fun town, you should check it out while you're there.
I need a new tag.

I think the vote is open to everyone. It is a fun town, been there before (many times). We plan to see a couple of Cirque shows too.

Will post pictures of our adventure.

Definitely gotta be cape number 1.

If you can get me a cape, I'd be eternally grateful! We at Gaming Steve are the original Minecraft players, after all.

It's announced today that the Yogscast guys will be at MineCon doing autographs and talks.

The cloak that won is #2. I voted for #1.

Screw cape number two.

Also Celdur keeps sending me to Yogscast videos. They're annoying as all hell. :(

The boy asked if we could go. He looked at a map and said it "...didn't look too far away and the van has a DVD player so I won't get bored."

Yeah, 1700 miles, hmmmm.

Nope, not this time.

Oh boy for only $99 dollars I can probably have some foul-smelling man wearing an assortment of cardboard boxes and wielding some paper piece of crap recite memes at me.
Uh why is this $99 dollar what in the wearthld

To cover the cost of renting the location, securing concessions, advertising, paying event staff...

It's a convention! Though, to be fair, it's kind of expensive for a con. Presales for PAX East only cost $55. Dragon Con presales are something like $65. Not sure how they ended up with $99, but it does seem a tad high. Comic Con is $100 for a four day pass, but that's Comic Con! You're gonna get a ton of stuff. It seems odd that Minecon would charge such a high price their first year. How much do they have to talk about? I mean really... and like you say, the costume options are a bit limited.

But they're probably banking on the fact that the Minecraft fans are somewhat fanatical about the game and would probably pay the high price without even batting an eye.

It's probably this expensive exactly because it's relatively small. There's less people to spread the costs over, so each person'll have to bare more. Notch said a while ago on his Twitter that they're still running a loss on the whole thing, if I remember correctly.

I wish they'd do something for the early adopters so people know we're better than them.
