Those are SCREENSHOTS?!

Wow.

Have to admit though, the only other thing I've liked about the AoE series was that cheat that made a Dodge Viper with a rocket launcher or something :D Ah, the good old days.

I'm a long term veteran of the Age of Empires series, and i must admit that this looks to be the worst one of them all.  They seem to be drifting away from what makes the games great - simplicity and gameplay value.  Plus it's in the most boring period in history after the World Wars (i fall asleep in those games).  Pretty screenshots and overheating my graphics card won't make me buy this game after the debacle that was "The Titans expansion pack" - that ruined Age of Mythology for me, which was a game i loved... it was so balanced before they brought out that Xpack, totally destroyed the game.

I have to agree I'm certianly not a huge fan of the time period, but it looks like they did a decent job interpreting it to me. My only real dissapointment was that they aren't including Asian empires, which were my favorite to play. Maybe they'll put them in an Xpac.

Was it nessacary to post EVERY damn picture.

A link would of been nice.

On topic the problem I'm seeing is its going to be gun based which I'm hoping not, but it may lose the gameplay fun that AoE2 had.

I may be interested in the game if they streamline resource gathering a tiny bit.

I've fallen asleep so many times watching pesants etc. chipping away at piles of rock only to find out I need 2000 more gold, iron, food and houses.

Yes gun-based RTS games are never the best.  Give me a sword, spear and arrows or some lasers, shrink rays or photon cannons, please!  Don't meet halfway with guns... which hold no purpose whatsoever.

So then what do you think of the upcomming Empire Earth II? Does a game like that interest you Janos?

Does an RTS have to have base-building, because I thought Ground Control was tons of fun because it had guns. ;D

Always love the promo shots of the Age of games, where everything is precisely placed to make up a awesome period scene or orderly set piece battle.  Whereas when I get in control, the towns are unwieldy sprawls and the battles masses of guys falling into eachother(though the ranged-based combat should make them look prettier this time no matter how much I suck).

Ground Control was a miracle of PC gaming. I still can't believe the travesty of number 2.

As to guns, if they're done in the right way guns can equal style rather than...boredom.

Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds did a decent job incorporating guns as the primary weapon using the Age of... engine.  I loved AoE2 and SWGB and I'm interested to see how this one goes.  Trains always intrigue me...  -leeman

No, it doesn't.  Empire Earth I was an abysmal game, so i hold absolutely no interest in it's sequel.

You're kidding. Empire Earth is like... the absolute best RTS made to date.... At least in my opinion. *Shrugs* Whatever. You're entitled to yours.

No, it really wasn't.  In terms of actual strategy and gameplay value the Age of' series or Starcraft were the best... Empire Earth was just poor.

Empire Earth was screwed the instant SSSI signed with Sierra.

I wish they would fo went with microsoft studios or something else.

Empire Earth was great cause u could rush with towers the minute the game started.

If I still could play aoe2:tc then I'd prefer it over Empire Earth

I liked Empire Earth 1, but Sierra just fed up the entire game.
SSSI sold it to sierra and they made Mad Doc make the sequal and the x-pack they made for Empire Earth was crap, except the civilization bonuses.

Napolean Dynamite is a super cool movie! it has some of the best one-liners ever.

Alright. I admit it. There were a FEW good jokes in Napolean Dynamite. But in general, it was just stupid.

No need to apologize. This thread has been off-topic for the past 8 posts or so.

I think AOE 3 is going to be kind of half-balanced between guns and swords. I hope the gameplay is good. While the shots are the most beautiful thing I've ever seen, I hope it doesn't ruin the awesome simplicity/pace/unit cap of the originals.

I HATED Age of Mythology and hated the Titans even more.

But- AOE2: The Conquerors is my favorite game of all time.

I can't wait for it. It's looking really good.

I didn't think Empire Earth was bad, I thought it was pretty good. Then again, I've only played the demo since I never bought the real game.

Starcraft was fun, but it had some SERIOUS issues. when a games gets a phrase coined from it "zerg rush" and that phrase is a bad thing, that's not good. heh, we used that a lot in Planetside...

I'm looking forward to Empire at War, the new Star Wars RTS.  I've always wanted a Star Wars fleet battle game.  The mod for Star Trek Armada II isn't quite the same. ;)

I was happ with Age of Empires two, but I was dissapointed the landscapes they showed in the screens could only be replicated over a small portion of the map, and nobody wold build a town there anyway. The main reason was because they placed dozens of "mountians" around the buildings, which made the terrain look complex. But in the real game they just looked out of place. The canyons in this game look beautiful, though, and I'm looking foward to some awsome, enoumous maze battles (I like making maps that make units travel for like an hour to get to the enemy's base, so that you have to plan far ahead.I hae it when they have super weapons or aircraft and destroy that whole stratagey.)

The graphics look good, and the havoc engin should be fun. I'm hoping the open up lots of options for your cities, and allow for extended multiplayer play. Optimally, for me, I like to run one city for a very long time, like sim city, and have more spread out, massive battles.

I agree with the lemurboy back on page 1, guns worked well in galactic battlegrounds, so I don't see a problem with them in some other AoE engine. Unfortunately, AoE3 does look like it's drifting away from the original 2. I read that you don't even have to drop off resources anywhere. I guess the villagers just throw the wood back to base or something. Not to mention the weird mother-country idea and the fact that you aren't really running a whole empire.

I was actually expecting napoleonic-type combat, not some sort of New World stuff. I wanted to lead the Swedes to victory over the Prussians like Gustavus Adolphus.
