Casino Stories (Not a joke thread...I think.)
« on: August 17, 2011, 08:02:31 pm »
(Figured a change of pace would be nice.)

I recently got the chance to gamble in a casino for the first time in my life. I'd been in one before, but wasn't allowed to participate. My family stopped in this one while we were on vacation and over the course of about an hour I ended up slot machine-ing my way up from $5 to $6 Canadian cash. It wasn't exactly high stakes, clearly, but I wanted to take it easy for my first time. Besides, we were really just in there for a fun afternoon activity than to do any serious gambling. I ended up being the only one in my family to walk away with anything. We'd all started with the same amount, so I credit it to sheer luck and deciding to walk away when I was up...by a dollar. (On that note, if anyone has any tips on how I should spend my profits, let me know. I'm thinking a vending machine Kit Kat bar, but if you think, perhaps, I should broaden my horizons a bit I could look for a Zagnut somewhere...)

The slot machines themselves were these over-the-top, caricatured, thematic variations on essentially the same game, that kept shifting between being charmingly campy and slightly sinister. There was a row full of machines with a Rocky Balboa motif, a machine with a fortune teller motif, another with an Italian restaurant motif, and a few machines with a cartoon purple cat mascot at the top of each, with eyes that will haunt my nightmares well into the next decade.

I'd actually wanted to try some of the table games, like Poker, Blackjack, and the Roulette Wheel, but the lowest opening bet I saw on any one of those was more than I was willing to spend in such a short amount of time that day.

Overall, it was a fun experience, enough so that I was curious what experiences other forum-goers have had in casinos. Any interesting stories to tell? Anyone win any big jackpots?

Discuss.

What meme is relevant right now? Look, just imagine I'm riffing on that. Updating signatures is exhausting.

Never been to a casino, though Chuck E Cheese is basically Baby's First Casino and Dave & Busters is the next step up.

But I will always remember driving past Grandma's Country Buffet and Casino on the outskirts of Butte, Montana.  I wish we had stopped.
Probably not a Goat, either.

I played roulette once with a friend of mine. Good time as we actually doubled our entrance bettings (500 pesos which is worth like 7 dollars).
OK, both of you die and let us know what happens.

I love Casinos, I love slot machines and I've also played black jack and craps.

I like the video slots that have bonus rounds that can win big bucks. The regular reel slots get boring quickly unless it's paying out well. My highest jackpot win was $2500. I've won that a couple of times.

Black jack is a skilled game and I don't do well. Craps is fun and intimidating. It's totally on how the dice rolls and how you bet. It's very fun and fast paced and not boring. Worth learning and trying if you've never played.

They make slot machine games for the PC that are a lot like the real ones without the gambling. I'm currently playing a new one called Battle Slots. It's a mix between slots and RPG, my character is leveling up and collecting runes and skills to battle higher monsters. It's addicting really.

I've only been to a Casino a couple times.

The first time was to see Carrot Top (I was drunk, the girlfriend bought the ticket, don't judge me).

The second time was with my sister. We walked in. I went to the slots, she went to the poker games. 10 minute later I was down $5 and she grabbed me and said we were leaving because she just won $1500 on video poker and wasn't about to piss it all away. I made her buy me a pizza. :)

I hate casinos. So much noise. And they are full of crowds. My family went to the World Series of Poker. I didn't play any slot machines. I love the old slot machines where you used real coins and had to pull the arm. You felt like you had some kind of control, like you might get a different result if you pulled it fast or slow. And people used to walk around Las Vegas carrying buckets of coins.
I'm not much on gambling. If I did play it would be on the video poker machines. I can't play real poker because my face turns red when I get a good hand.
My biggest excitement was when I was about 10 we went somewhere and I won $10 playing bingo. I don't think we had to pay anything to enter so it wasn't really gambling.
One time we put two quarters in a machine that took up to three quarters and we hit the big jackpot but we didn't get very much because we hadn't put the third quarter in.

Welcome to the forum.

That being said, I'm 16 so I have no casino stories, carry on.

The only casino I've ever been to was in Fallout: New Vegas.

Gambling is silly.

Gambling is a very elaborate and hopeful way of pissing your money away, like cigarettes or alcohol without the health melefits.
Unless you put all your points into luck like a chump
Casinos are neat though. Shiny shiny, at least the big, bright ones.

PROTIP: Wear sexy underwear and get a luck implant. If you didn't start off unlucky you'll be cleaning house in no time.

But on a more serious note, "melefits" isn't a word.
