Super 8

I saw this on a whim, and it was excellent.
Like, really excellent.

Yeah, [Kishmond] came back from Africa, but the ponies have him now.

I liked this movie.

The only thing I was disappointed with was THE ALIEN IS HUMANOID ARGH ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME. I mean, I know it's a kid movie, but making aliens humanoid has always been one of my pet peeves. That's really my only complaint, though, so yeah, it was good.

Eh, kind of but not really. It mostly seems to run around on all its legs. It also moved like a spider when crawling around things.

Also, kids movie are you kidding me?

Sorry, I've always seen any sort of "growing up/self-discovery" story that didn't have murder or rape in it as a kid's movie.

Maybe because I saw Stand By Me at like eight and that's the only real thing of the sort I've seen excepting Homestuck.

But anyways I guess you're right about the spoilery things in our discussion as well, it's mostly the facial plan that I'm complaining about. BUT THEN AGAIN THE FACIAL PLAN OF TERRESTRIAL ANIMALS COULD'VE EASILY BEEN EVOLVED SEPERATELY SO I DUNNO.

I'm really just arguing with myself at this point.

The humanoid bit were the eyes, in the scene where it picks up little whatever-his-name-is boy.

Saw this last night at the drive in, it was really good!  And rysworld, you don't know what you're talking about.
Probably not a Goat, either.

About the kid's movie bit or the humanoid bit?

Definitely the kid's movie bit.

didn't have murder

Did you somehow miss the entire second half?  Where the alien ate people?  Where the military executed the teacher?
Nefarious?  Nearly.  Ne’er-do-well?  Never!  Neither nearly names this narrator.  Naive and knowledgeable, notorious and inscrutable, this nascent Nero is known naturally as Neoadept.

Well yes but that's sort of different I suppose? Since it's an alien? And not a human being fully aware that they in theirself ceased another beings thinking without consent? That's what makes murder terrible. Gore doesn't faze me, at all. Then again you could indeed make the argument that since the alien is a sapient being, it was indeed aware of it's actions in killing another sapient being, but I easily believe that it could be insane from it's incarceration, therefore making it not a sapient being. HMM. I'll have to think about this.

It touches people and feels their thoughts/psyche. I'd imagine that he (alienthing) can also feeling them disappearing once they die. He knows what he's doing.

I didn't really mean the kid movie part, I meant the super spoilery part.  I can't think of an alien less humanoid in a movie that the audience is supposed to relate to.

Why is everything blacked out?  This is starting to get silly.
Probably not a Goat, either.

<Relatable-----------------------------------------------------------------Not Relatable> (appearance wise)
|Avatar|                                         |District9|        |Super 8|   |WALL-E|

WALL-E isn't even organic. Not relatable at all.

On the contrary, it's more about their ability to show emotion than appearing human. I'd place wall-e far closer to Avatar.
No way dude, you're trolling me.

Yeah. WALL-E was kinda on there as a joke, because I couldn't think of anything to place further on the scale.

Saw it a while ago now, was pretty entertaining ending was just cliched and a bit lame though.
