At their peak this week

How volatile is this market exactly?

Pretty volatile!

It stayed around $1000ish for a few days.

It's rising back towards it at the moment, though.

How volatile is this market exactly?

Here is the closing price of every day for the last year. The blue band is a Donchian channel, which represents the range of transaction values at that time.

Logarithmic scale:

So after seeing all the news stories about bitcoin recently and after bugging Brandon about it for weeks, I finally have bitcoin mining set up.  I'm not trying to actually make money on this stuff, I just wanted to have some amount of bitcoin to make it more interesting to watch the prices go nuts.  I really have no idea what I'm doing, but if this site is correct:

http://bitcoin.web-share.nl/

I may have .001 bitcoins in a few weeks.  So basically it's functioning as Cookie Clicker, but it might cough up a quarter every now and then.

From what I've read (which was admittedly a few months ago) mining for bitcoins isn't really worth it, since it costs more in electricity than you can make from the mining.
Seems like a good way to turn your computer into a room heater though :P

I'm not trying to make money.  I just wanted a unit of bitcoin, however small it is, to make watching the prices fluctuate wildly more interesting.

So how big of a deal was that Mt. Grox crash the other day?  I saw tons of articles proclaiming it to be the end of bitcoin, but they were mostly from business or finance sources that probably want to see it fail.

And for the record, I gave up on the mining thing months ago.

I wonder how hard it is to mine those.  Or do you dig them up?  Have a litter of Dogecoins?

I vote for the next cryptocurrency exchange to be called the Aggro Crag.
