It's got a lot more RPG elements from what I can see. Like money and merchants.
Yeah, [Kishmond] came back from Africa, but the ponies have him now.

I wouldn't say better, but definitely different, as it's more action oriented.
It has more content (items, gear, mobs) already.  It has better netcode.  Like Kishmond said, it has NPCs that you can interact with.  Overall, it just seems to have a lot more polish to it.  The crafting is streamlined.  You can make anything if you have the right parts.  No having to memorize a bunch of recipes, or having to wait for iron and gold to smelt.  That might be good for Minecraft, which is more laid back.

The devs seem to have a better idea of where they want to go with the game too, both because of Minecraft as a base for inspiration, and because of having a solid design plan.  Notch is always flying by the seat of his pants and programs new features on whims and never quite polishing them.  For instance, he put in the Nether six months ago, and it still has problems and doesn't even work with Multiplayer.  These guys seem more focused on design and production based on a plan, not on whim.  Of course, they're programming it using XNA, and in 2D, which gives them a bit of a leg up on Notch.

Though of course, I'd still have to play it to see for myself how comparable it is.  ;D

Asked them who their music dude was since I'd heard somewhere that the only money they'd really invested so far was for a bit of music commission.
Just out of curiosity.

this is basicly what i wanted minecraft to be (in 2d i guess)

tons of items and loot and cool large biomes with special items and mobs
and more than just 3 difrent mobs...infact tons of them

That quote is actualy very witty, Celdur. I suggest you use that in your signature.

The 2d aspect to me is quite lame. The fun for me in Minecraft is the whole, x,y,z movement too...
No, no, he did. In the everything else section, at least. Officially, this makes him king.

Here are the two latest parts of the LP.

This game looks delightfully difficult.

Pherhaps the punishment for dying could be a subtraction of silver or copper coins from you, depending on how much stuff you have. Each item would have a set value per item, and depending on which item you had, your inventory would be worth more or less. (a bow might have a value of some silver or one gold, while a stone block would have a worth of one copper.) If you didn't have enough coins, the game would subtract some items of equal value to the amount you lost, starting with the least valuable items and moving from there. This would give the player more incentive to carry lots of useless items, or more sensibly a large amount of coins.

This is probably a bad idea for some reason, but feel free to poke holes, I'm really just saying whatever comes to mind here.

They've allowed some other dude to do an LP as well, with the latest version too.
You may notice that the tutorial NPC has been fully redone; if you weren't aware, they hired on a new guy to get rid of the placeholder sprites.
Looking good.

EDIT: As amusing as this is, I'm going to stop watching LPs. I don't need all the fun spoiled for me before I even get to play the thing.
If someone else wants to post vids and news to the thread, go right ahead. I'm gonna bail until playtime.

EDIT2: And then this dude goes and posts like three more episodes.
Cutting this stuff off is going to be much more difficult than I anticipated.

Double pasties.

Article from IGN -- http://pc.ign.com/articles/116/1164683p1.html
Somewhat unfortunate title but hey. It's also really short.

Here's an interesting snippet.
Quote
"We have been approached by a large distribution network, which might speed up the game's release."

EDIT: Also, demilogic's channel now has all of the LPs, up to episode 23 with a bit of a cliffhanger. They didn't mind since it's of an older version anyway and Pbat's LP eps are all like five to seven times as long.

So there's this other couple of guys with the alpha now, Yogscast. They do LPs too I guess.
Figured I can watch these since they're pretty newbie-level, not very spoilery.

Just had a good laugh with the second one. These guys are just so bizarre, like caricatures.

Another interview here, which answers a couple of important questions.

Quote
Q:It seems like overnight Terraria has become a bit of an internet sensation, and people are buzzing about when Terraria will be available. Do you have anything to say to them in regards to a prospective release date or a price?

A:Currently we are aiming for a release sometime between May and July of this year. And the more hype we hear, the more we will endeavor to get it out even sooner. As for the price, we are leaning towards the range of 5-20 Dollars.

Very good.

I've been browsing over PBat's videos just to waste some time. Blue actually ended up in one of them and PBat threw some questions his way.

It's an hour long and has gameplay in it, but the questions start right around 5 minutes in.
