A Tale of Explorers: Caravels and Conquistadors
« on: April 21, 2011, 01:10:04 pm »
It is the Year of Our Lord Fourteen Hundred and Ninety-Two. Looking out upon the great sea, many nations have their eyes set on a new route to China and India. The cursed Venetians control all trade agreements with the blasted Ottomans, and so an alternative route must be found. Who are you, and what do you seek?

That's right, you are all explorers! Here's the breakdown: I will be handling the actions of any natives you find in the new world, as well as the actions of European monarchs, and anyone else you run into on the west coast. Here's a player profile:

Explorer Name:
Country of Birth: (anywhere in Europe or the Ottoman Empire)
Country Employing: (Which flag do you sail under?)
Reason For Going: (Are you in this for yourself, or for the glory of your country?)
Defining Trait: (What are you like?)

Possible Flags to Sail Under:
England- Stronger ships
France-  Better relations with natives
Spain- Easier fights against natives
Portugal- More visibility
Venice- More income
Sweden- Better attack against enemy colonists
Russia- Additional avenue to colonize and conquer- Central Asia; Explorer moves more quickly across ice
Ottoman Empire- Easier time converting conquered peoples
Prussia- Stronger troops
The Netherlands- Faster ships
The Papal States- Low income, weak troops, but good relations with most European states

Possible Defining Personalities:
Greedy- More gold from pillaging
Pious- Easier time of converting people
Aggressive- Explorer is stronger in combat
Intelligent- Explorer has lower chance of running into negative random events
Determined- Explorer is faster
Hardy- Explorer can survive harsher conditions
Diplomatic- Explorer is better at negotiating with Natives.

OOC: Alright, first joiner! Lemme break down the system of turns.

Every turn, you PM me your actions. Then, I'll type them out in Word. The post that begins the next turn will be a narrative describing what everyone did. We start once we have at least 5 players. WHO'S READY!?

LIST OF PLAYERS:
-Watcher in the Puddle: Don Mateo Lucas
-Badger Man 22: Peter Femhard

some backstory:
At the age of 16 I ran away from home, fleeing my father, who after loosing his wife, my mother to the black plague was driven to the bottle.
I found no better life in England, I lived on the streets, stealing my daily bread.  After living on the street for some time I joined up with the Royal Navy.  Advance 8 years, I'm 24 and was just named Captain of "The Jim Dandy" the flagship of a small fleet of 4 ships, entrusted to me by the Queen to aid me in my Journey,

Woah there, Badger.

Europeans can only work for Europeans.

China was being all "we are superior" at the time, and everyone hated the Ottomans.

I shoulda mentioned that before, I'll edit the post.

How is it silly? It's historically accurate, at least.
