Space Battles and Explosions! - An Adventure Game
« on: March 19, 2011, 06:09:22 pm »
Lets have a Sci-fi adventure for lulz and profit!

Oh no! A Sci-Fi Galactic War! And you, sir, are right in the middle of it!

Yeah, you should have thought about this happening before you joined the United Nations Space Fleet. You see, Humanity had a nasty habit of accidentally colonising some solar systems that others had claimed. Note the use of the past tense, because now paramilitary organisations by species opposed to humanity have started raiding our colonies! Some tighter defence systems took care of this, of course.

But then we found out that the "Central Galactic Alliance", a coalition of races that live in the central region of the Milky Way, had been funding those groups, and at some points directly supported them with their own military! We demanded reparations, but humanity got no response, how dare they! The final straw hit in late July in 3768, where a fleet of Space Pirates attempted to raid Earth, our homeworld. This fleet had originated from CGA territory, and after further digging the United Nations of Earth discovered that they were not a Pirate Fleet at all - but a CGA strike force!

This was a clear act of war, and so Humanity, with support from it's allies in Squidlonia and Quasidim, began a major attack into the CGA itself.

The Space Vessel you serve on, the UNSS Cleveland, was one of the ships that would take part in that raid.

By the way, What is your job in the UNSF?

1) Fighter Pilot - Like one of those guys from Top Gun!
2) Space Navy Officer - They call us "Spacemen" now!
3) Star Trooper - We blow things up and use guns!

Yeah! You graduated at 20 from the Melbourne Stellar Naval Acadamy, with distinction. Later you were promoted to 2nd Lieutenant, because of the skill you showed during a Pirate raid on a mining colony. You might have stretched the rules slightly, but you got the job done, and it worked out fine, right?

Afterwads you were transferred back to Mars to staff a new Escorter Class Vessel, the UNSS Cleveland, where you are now Third in Command. It's a small vessel by Human standards - about 90 hands strong, not including an attachment of 30 Star Troopers and a squadron of 20 fighter pilots. It's job is to escort larger vessels and to prescision strike on potential threats to more vunerable ships.

But back to you and your job - you're third in command, and it's your job to make sure everything runs smoothly. That involves making sure all sections of the ship remain effiecient and that information is relayed to your fighter pilots and star troopers on the ground. Like all people, you have your advantages and disadvantages in certain situations - whilst you're moderately competant at even your worst aspects, they're still weaknesses.

I'm Good at... (Pick one)

1) Manuevering - Flying stuff around is cool and I am good at it.
2) Firepower - I'm great at maintaing firing discipline and making sure everything I attack explodes.
3) Leadership - Everyone loves me! I'm so great.
4) Knowledge - I can recognise most things on the battlefield and so I can react to most things effectively.
5) Micromanagement - I've got soldiers and fighters, why don't I use them to my advantage?

Please for the love of God don't make me to try use... (Pick One)

A) Manuevering - Can't I just shoot them with my space guns?
B) Firepower - Surely firepower isn't THAT important.
C) Leadership - I'm good at commanding theoreticly, isn't that enough?
D) Knowledge - If it's a problem just let me kill it. I don't need to write an essay about it!
E) Micromanagement - So, uh, fighters and stuff, just do your own thing and it'll be fine. Yeah.

(Post this time, because a poll wouldn't work for this.)

Since we're an officer, leadership should be an important skill, because what good is being a leader if nobody listens? So I vote for 3.

Also, since we order other people to shoot, we don't necessarily have to be good at it ourselves, so our weakness should be B.

Yeah, you've always been a natural leader! That's exactly why you got this promotion, right? As an officer, it'd be foolish not to have great leadership skills - otherwise you'd be a bad officer!

Of course, you never were great with firing trajectories or advanced firing strategies. But I'm sure you'll be able to find someone to do all that stuff for you. You must have slept through that class at the academy, I guess.

But back to the story.

You arrive at the Luna Station Spaceport, with orders to board your ship and report to the Captain. You see the figure of the UNSS Cleveland up ahead - whilst not as big as some of the behemoth ships that are stationed around it, but still pretty big. Some lower ranks mass towards the loading area, all of them carrying all of the personal items they were allowed whilst on service.

About half an hour later, you've made your way to the Bridge - the control centre for almost all processes that take place on the ship. After a quick gaze you spot your commanding officer, and quickly approach and exchange salutes.

"Commander van Der Waals", you say, "I was ordered to report to you, sir."

"Ah, you're my Third in Command, I assume?" he says, looking over you in an inspective manner. You barely make out his words from his thick Afrikaans accent, but you're sure you can survive your entire tour without mishearing him.

"Yes, sir."

"Luckily for you, there has been a mess-up with launch clearance, and we're leaving in 12 hours instead of 5. So I'm allowing the upper officers shore leave for the next 6 hours - I'm sure you'd rather go to shore with some of your colleagues than stay here."

"Yes sir, thank you sir."

You're just about to leave, then you hear a voice behind you "Don't forget to log in to the Ship's database so we know you've arrived.

Well that sounds like a suggestion, what's you're name and gender?

You reach the officer's lounge, and see a few officers hanging around, one group of officers appear to be talking about leaving for a bar soon, whilst the other group appears to be entrenched in the lounge for the long run - however they have a stockpile of hilariously horrible movies and some liquids which whilst resembling beer would definitely not be contraband in the officers lounge. No sir.

Those going out to the bar are mostly those of lower ranks, whilst the higher ranks are staying behind.

Oh the choices that befall those of rank...

1) Go out to the Bar - I'm on Shore leave. Why wouldn't I go out to drink and ramble to strangers about sports?
2) Stay behind with the other Officers - Ice cold drinks and chillaxing is where it's at!

We're a privileged white male, because how else would we be an officer?

Also stick around in the lounge, you don't want to be hanging around the scruffy commoners in those poor people bars.

That's right, Scotty! You'll be working with these people more often than you would with the lower officers, so you'd better be on good terms with them now.

Using your natural suave conversational skill you naturally intergrate into the conversation. You soon know your fellow officers quite well.

The more talkative and higher ranks are:

Lt. Alison Stuart is the officer directly above you - 2nd in command. As far you're aware, she's definitely more of a technical officer than a command one - she's far better at piloting and directing fire than she is at inspiring troops. As well as this, she's a lot more professional in her attitude than the other officers; her father is an Admiral from what you can gather, and her upbringing reflects that.

Captain Jackson "Junior" James Jr. is in charge of the on-board Star Trooper attachment. He's definitely a lot more casual than Stuart is. Junior was a talented NCO who was promoted to an officer position, several times. You can dissacertain that he is a pretty cool dude, bro; also he's a way better leader, though the officers took a few jabs at him for missing a really obvious target at a shooting range.

Sqdn Ldr. Lou Dijon is the head fighter pilot on the ship - he's definitely was more arrogant than the others, seeming to be as reckless and a show off as much as Junior is laid back. However the ribbons and medals on his uniform show he's got something to back up his arrogance. He's actually a semi-celebrity, as he was a champion stunt pilot before he enlisted.

And finally, Flight-Lt. Nik Oronov - another pilot. She's by far the most talkative of the officers and definitely one of the smarter ones, you think you may have recognised her from the acadamy, as fighter pilots need to study the same physics theory as the naval officers. When you mention this she does not fail to point out that she recieved one of the highest theory grades in the acadamy. Good for her?

The night is getting on, is there anyone you'd to especially talk to whilst the booze whitles away?

1) Stuart - I'd better be on good terms with my superiors.
2) Junior - He seems like a cool guy!
3) Dijon - I'll need the approval of my fighter pilots - they're the real factor in space combat.
4) Oronov - I need the nerd to do my combat reports for me!
5) Make an excuse and go to bed - Tommorow is going to be a long day, I need some rest, not a hangover.

Ok, in my opinion, we should either go with Stuart or Dijon. But I can't decide which, but I'm leaning toward Dijon.

I don't even know what i mean, but still, go with Stuart.
