This whole thing is nuts. In my opinion, if water needs to be constantly fed to the reactor they need to use a remote controlled vehicle with a hose attached to drive up to the place. This is something that several military-industrial nations have developed for explosive removal. We're not talking small bomb disposal robots, but large armored personnal carrier sized machines. Drive them in with a long hose attached and use a pump out of the 'hot zone' to pump water in to the reactor.
It is interesting to read the non-US news feeds to hear what is going on. It sounds like the Japanese might have more of a 'dirty laundry' list of issues with their nuclear power program than the US (and FrencH) media is saying. Even the blog link posted by Pixxel above is more information than it generally being told to the average US citizen watching the 'special report' on the evening news.
I am not much of a praying man, but the people around that plant, they get my attention.
