Mornington Crescent 2011: Signup and ooc
« on: February 11, 2011, 02:01:10 pm »
Its that time again. Now taking signups for Mornington Crescent, which this time will play out on the Mornington Crescent forums LadyM was kind enough to set up last time. To keep the MC forum clean for record-keeping purposes we'll handle all ooc chatter here.
Any newbies feel free to join, while the game may seem complicated, you'll soon pick up the rules. The best way to learn is just to dive in, googling for strategy guides or rules explanations or the like is pointless and certainly isn't the best way to pick up the game as it is.

Naturally we'll be playing on the regular London Underground map, but the configuration will be decided by poll. I think thats it, anything to add Pat?

Oh my god yes!

I guess I'll vote for a tournament-style of play; however, you know I'm a stickler for all things Stovold. Why were those styles all ignored, Sam?

Not every game...  but whatever.

Also, I notice the line from Shoreditch to New Cross and New Cross Gate is now closed, though there is an above-ground route. Are we playing with this change or will we stick to and old map?

Screw this new revisionist bullcrap. Ignore it. Though out of respect we will not be using the Cairo Metro at all.

I find the Besselheim configuration has the most attention to procedure put into it, making it well suited for a network game like this one.

We wouldn't want people trying to pull any crap by ignoring the timing rules, for example, but it's easy to get confused by that online.
Not a winner anymore.

Pfff, the timing isn't really a problem any more now you can just download an ap for it.

Indeed, but not all of us have smart phones. Still, I can get something on my computer that will take care of it.

When are we starting? I haven't gotten a link to the forum yet. PM it to me.

I've found that this game works much better when a random half of the players start out scattered across Germany and the other half start out scattered across Greenland.  Makes an interesting "get to London" phase.

No offense but thats dumb as hell. Its like that idiotic monopoly variant where people start off with all the properties already dealt out into their hands.

As much as i hate to admit it, the Germans did a really good job refining this classic British game with the Besselheim variant, so it gets my vote.

And who is voting for Peterloo Massacre? Thats far too simplified.

Ok looks like Peterloo massacre wins.

I will send out team affiliations in PMs on the MC forum, don't be dissapointed if you don't get to be a Dragoon this time, the civilians do outnumber them after all so its just simple maths.

Right, okay. I got my PM and made my first move but did I do it right?

I've never played with teams like this before. :-\

Ehh, that's an okay opening move. Better in Stovold, obviously, but you can still go for any of the win conditions from there.

With a game this size you can make up for being a bit off in your opening moves anyway.
Not a winner anymore.
