Yeah, the water in the markets will only last so long. We might have to find a unpolluted river to drink from or attempt to make our own filter.

It's a zombie apocalypse, not a nuclear apocalypse.

After two years there would be so few survivors that water probably wouldn't be much of an issue. Established settlements could easily gather water and travelers can find and purify water without much hassle.

Depends on if there's a natural water supply in the city or how dangerous it would be to locate and collect stockpiles of bottled water.

Of course there's going to be a natural source of water in or around a city in California. Historically, that's usually why there's a city there in the first place. It has good access to resources. And since 90% or more of the city's inhabitants have no need for water anymore, chances are the population centers have shifted to areas closer to the water source.

It'd be insanity to live in the city-proper, anyway. That's rule one of zombie survival. Get the hell out the city.

Oh is this not in California? I just watched Zombieland so maybe I'm mixing the two up.

Either way, my clerical error doesn't make a dent in my argument. I'm still right.

**EDIT**
Moreover though, this is an RP. I don't think it matters too much if we pass on describing when our characters eat, drink, and crap. :D

Yeah, it should be assumed that if anyone survived the zombies this long a steady supply of food and water has already been obtained. Unless the character's player says otherwise.

That sounds about right i suppose, and it'll be easier that way.

We could still do with a bit more setting information at the moment though.

I disagree. I say we start the game and determine the setting in-character.

That tends to be less-troublesome. I'd also hold off on making any maps. Maps ruin games like this.

I'd like there to be a 4-6 mile gap between the Motel 6 and the main stronghold and other than that I agree with pat on the setting stuff.

I like that idea too, i just think we need a consensus of the basic facts or people are just going to end up making assumptions about the setting that are quite different from each other. I don't mean maps and things i just mean some approximate numbers and over arching themes we can stick too. Just so people don't start writing like it's basically 'the road with zombies' and then someone else writes like it's a hyper cinematic zombie kill fest.

Okay, fair enough.

The setting, as I gather, is a city. I would imagine most of the city proper is not safe at any time and zombies roam free. Perhaps there are some safe zones that are tended to by various groups... probably because there are resource points in the city. The outskirts and suburbs are most-likely safer, though that isn't a hard and fast rule. Most humans have probably retreated beyond the suburbs to rural or forested areas where they can see an enemy coming.

The primary character motivation (and therefore writer motivation) should not be to get in as many fights as possible. It should be survival.

I suppose more information wouldn't hurt.
Yes, the city is for the most part rampant, except for the far Northwest, East, and West districts, which have been combed over by the survivors, who have established strongholds in these locations, and are the safest parts of the city, but are by no means harmless. There are also some small areas and small forts that are held, such as a water purification plant and, surprisingly, a computer center. From the computer center, the survivors have managed to get linked and work a small internet-like system, working of portable generators and such found while scavenging, as well as the building's backup generator.
The fortresses have been well established by this point, with both livestock and crops, and are able to feed the people living there, combined with what they scavenge.
Quite a bit has been built by the survivors with raw materials scavenged from the city. The local internet server they have up in the city, though recent, has been used to spread plans for weapons and other devices around between the three fortresses and anyplace that can pick up this internet signal. For example, the designers at the fortresses put their heads together and designed a submachine gun that can be cheaply and easily manufactured, though quality is a bit poor.
Resources aren't usually an issue, though there are times where they'll have to get a group of survivors to go get a crate or two of bottled water if they can find some.

Replacement Character, dropping the Reaper.

Name: Jerry Arlenta

Age: 22

Weapon: M4 Carbine(ACOG), M9, M9 Bayonet-Knife(Mountable on M4 or handheld)

Occupation: Army Combat Medic

Bio: Jerry Arlenta, otherwise known as Specialist Arlenta, served two years in the United States Army, until the zombies began eating humanity's rear end. Pulled back from a deployment in the Middle East as part of the military's emergency strategic retreat to bolster the defense forces of the continental US and Hawaii, Arlenta promptly discovered that his medical training wasn't quite useful against undead-inflicted wounds, and that the Army's new version of "treatment" was a round to the head followed by burning.

Specialist Arlenta and his unit were first tasked with defending the refinery a few hundred miles from the city, to ensure that the refinery continued to operate smoothly. Arlenta and other soldiers gathered the workers of the refinery and their families, moving them to temporary shelters within the defensive line. There, with routine supply drops of food and ammunition, the military managed to hold out a few months, until a bunch of civilians seeking safety within the walls blew a number of holes in the wall with improvised explosives(All who approached had been warned to stop and turn around. If not, they were shot. The explosive-wielding civilians managed to sneak past the patrols.). The explosions called the attention of zombies for miles around, who came charging for the refinery. Within a day of fighting, the soldiers broke and ran as the hordes overwhelmed them.

Arlenta and a few other soldiers managed to regroup and survive for the next two years, slowly picked off by the zombies, until Arlenta was left wandering alone. He eventually took up residence in one of the city strongholds, providing what medical care he could to the survivors.
