'One Drawing A Day' Challenge #5
« on: January 04, 2011, 05:52:24 pm »
Welcome to the fifth 'One Drawing A Day' Challenge!

This month's theme..

SHAPES

Each day, choose a shape or two (or more!) from the two pages of shapes and blots below; you can even use the same shape multiple times if you like.
This theme is about interpretation. What do you see? Allow the shapes to inspire and guide you in your vision.

Here is an example of some past work I did back in early 2010.

As you see, it's fine to go a little beyond or fall a little short of the boundaries to suit the purposes of your design.

You can trace/draw over top or use as a reference; no need to worry about it matching 100% perfectly.
You are allowed to scale them up or down in size if needed, but please do not flip, rotate, or otherwise distort the shapes.

Challenge yourself to take them as they are.

That's about it.
Have at it!

'ONE DRAWING A DAY' OVERVIEW
So what we want out of you is at least one drawing each day for one month.

Post whatever you can come up with. That's your doodles, paintings, sketches. Whether you're using a mouse in paint, a pen tablet with photoshop, or a pencil-paper-scanner scheme. It's all good.

Some rules--
  • Newly created art made for this specific challenge. No old stuff.
  • Don't go nuts with the file size or image resolution. Keep it reasonable.
  • This is all for fun and practice! So please put some level of honest effort into your work.

If you think you'll have problems keeping up, try to give yourself five minutes out of the day to draw something, anything, even if it means passing on the monthly theme.
Feel free to try to catch up if you miss a few days; just try not to fall behind.

Joining in on a challenge like this is a good incentive to get yourself to draw. Experiment, try to draw something out of your league, entertain the forum with your artistic wit.
Check out what other people have done too. Do you like something they did? Imitate it! It's a great way to learn.

No sign-up necessary. Start whenever you're ready.
Rev up those pencils, dudes.

Thanks to Flisch and GD for helping come up with this thing.
Thanks to Gec too for handling ODAD 4.

NOTE: Badges have been eliminated. They were an attempt to sort of double up on incentive but I feel like they didn't quite work, certainly not the way they had to be employed.

Right, this only vaguely resembles the shape but I had no digital drawing programs at hand. I kinda rushed it but oh well.

I've never met an elephant with a moustache, so I can't really say.

I started yesterday, though it's with pencil and paper. And I drew it when I wasn't at my computer, so I drew my own random shapes. So far the theme's fun :)

I'll scan the two drawings I've done so far when I get the time.

Well, he originally had a cape but I thought it didn't fit.
As I said before, you're allowed to deviate from the boundaries a bit to suit your design. So if part of the shape makes it difficult to maintain an interesting character and you've tried your best to include it, then just omit it. You still walk away with something cool.
There's not really any cheating since this is just a personal challenge anyway.

EDIT: I'll do four shapes tomorrow. My right shoulder is ****ed 'cause I somehow managed to sleep on it wrong or something.
Painful day.

Oh, uh.. well, I totally spaced. Went grocery shopping and hung out.
Man, I'm so out of it lately.

I'll do double again tomorrow (today, that is), or perhaps some other idea I've had for this challenge.

EDIT: 'kay, nevermind then. I was busy all day.

EDIT LIKE THREE DAYS LATER: Well, nevermind.

EDIT LIKE THIRTEEN DAYS AFTER THAT: I suck. God damn.
