Blue Planet
« on: December 16, 2010, 12:25:41 am »

Sixty years have passed since a strange artifact of unknown origin was detected on the Red Planet.

Soon after its discovery, the alien device suddenly sprang to life, unlocking the waters beneath, returning the fleeting sky, igniting the once dormant core, and spreading the seeds of life all across the surface of the previously dead planet.

It is now the year 2110.

All traces of the once great artifact has all but vanished, and in its place, a vast and thriving world, both strange and familiar, has arisen on the once Red Planet.

You are but one of many individuals tasked with commanding your own arsenal of highly advanced technology in a bid to claim the vast and untold riches of the new Blue Planet.

How you achieve this mission is up to you, or to be more precise, your employers.

May it be through knowledge, power, or cloak and dagger diplomacy, all is fair in business and war!

Welcome back foreman...

Blue Planet is a multiplayer mapgame which runs under the same principles as its successors, Octagonapus' War of the Tomes and Crazen's Chopping up the Planet, though mostly the former.

Each person, or in this case foreman, will start with a small starting base, drones included, proximal to their point of landing. They will then make their way across the Blue Planet as they try to expand the clout of their employers' organization.

Whether it be for glory, riches, or SCIENCE!TM, be sure to keep in mind that expanding one's hold is no easy task. Along your path to success lie a myriad of challenges, not the least of which are the local flora and fauna, other hostile frontiersmen, the interventionist UN Spacy, and a plethora of natural disasters caused by the lost artifact's wake.

Will you struggle side by side, or against your fellow pioneers?

That, is for YOU to decide!

Now go, and make a faction, including its color!

Be sure to make it plausible for the timeframe in question. We are aiming for mid-level tech here, no Aeon Illuminates, please.

Afterward, go and choose a site for the location of your initial camp.

Post in this thread your orders for the first turn. You can build up your camp, construct drones, put down defenses, establish a mining facility, among other things. Make them plausible for your current state, so no building a planet-spanning army despite only having a single factory the size of a small barn.

Also, keep in mind that enacting hostilities on other people will make you hotter and hotter in the eyes of the United Nations Space Army. Push their tolerance to the limit and they'll strike you with a railgun or two. Push their tolerance waaaaaaaay past the limit and they'll send in a unit from the spacy itself.

You can try and appease the UN using the stuff that you've gathered on the planet, such as raw resources, cash, or scientific findings. Keep in mind, however, that it doesn't always work, though frequently bribing treating public officials certainly increases the chances of getting crap past the censors.

In any case, we will start when there's enough people on board.

Though, of course, latecomers are always welcome to the race!

Mars c.2110

Various peoples of various ethnicities, classes and faiths all bound together by one thought. The thought was one scientific in nature, but religious in action. Due to the tight laws surrounding the genetic engineering and cloning of people the Aristocracy of Superior Sentients (ASS) came to the Blue Planet to engineer their, and each other's, beings into superior forms. Using cloning they rose armies of dimwitted men with each having the strength and size of an elephant. They rose cities of steel and made their inner cities artificially ran, only oxygen coming from the outside world. They created a nation of laboratories.

I'd like the colour PURPLE and a start on that island with a large lake inside of it, north of the eastern peninsula. We shall name this region Garido Isle and the lake shall be called The Tuyta.

The Australian aborigines had watched their people fade, ever since the westerners had come, since the British had tried to assimilate their race into that of the Europeans. Things had changed recently, sure. The irrigation of much of the Australian outback had brought great prosperity to not only Australia, but to the peoples which owned the land there. The Aborigines were not technophobic, far from it. But they feared the further assimilation of their culture, its absorption into that of the West. So the terraformation of Mars was an opportunity. Finally, they could become dreamwalkers once more, carve a true, new Australia out of a fresh world. Thousands of aborigines climbed the sky on great flames, heading to a new home.

I'll choose Green as my color, and take for my location the strip of land between the Agyres Sea and the Northern Ocean. The name of my faction shall be, say, True Australia.

The Scion Collective, an almost cult like group of technocrats mostly consisting of individuals obsessed with progress as well as other mysterious benefactors, grew dissatisfied of earth long ago. Shackled by restriction and regulations, the collective had always hoped to escape to a place where they could pursue their interest without too much scrutiny. Now with the blue planet being colonized the collective sees its opportunity. The collective now sends its own foreman, an artificial intelligence named COMBINE, to pioneer  the stars and stake their claim on the planet.

My color shall be MAROON and I believe I will start on left side of the map near the center of the upper peninsula.

In the year 2030, a group of oceanologists create a small ocean-going nation to protect the ocean's ecology. Sadly, 80 years later, thousands of species extinct, they save numeros Earth species and flee the rotting Earth to this new planet,to live a life in alien oceans. The Hydropolis Green.

My location is that large bay to the far west wih islands in,I shall name it Hydrohai Bay and my colour will be OCEAN BLUE

McBurgerFry Inc. is a fast-food serving corporation which began operating in the late twenties of the 2000's, they use the unclaimed land as gigantic cornfield to feed the masses on earth. Mercenaries and private armies protect McBurgerFry Inc.'s territories and interests, while the businessmen buy weapons from earth.

Interstellar Transportation Industries, a leading provider of space transportation between Earth, Luna, the various orbital habitats, and more recently, Mars. It first began when space travel began to be more affordable in the early 2050s with the creation of miniaturized fusion power generators. It was also the first civilian company to have one of their spaceships reach Martian orbit with a international research group in cryogenic hibernation.

Recently, they have taken a personal interest in Mars, wondering if there are any other alien artifacts hidden under the surface and if possible, have the secret of FTL travel or a equivalent. Employing their private armed forces, the ITI Mobile Infantry, and a army of xenologists, archaeologists, researchers and scientists, along with their meager space fleet, they will scour Mars for any remaining artifacts. Using their Mars-based headquarters, New Port Royal, as their base of operations.

I choose Gray and my city will be in the middle of the largest lake/sea.

Gaelic Independence Movement, a group of Cornish, Welsh, Scottish, and Irish nationalists fed up with British control, grouped together under one banner. Pooling whatever funds they could find, steal, or otherwise attain, they bought out a parcel of land on the Blue Planet, and transportation. Setting off like the original settlers of the Americas, they seek out a place they can call their own.

The island and a parcel of land off to the right of the map. If that's already taken, then that bit of land surrounding that inland sea.

Green, of course.

Well, I was planning on being a sea country. Sea-colonies and a good fleet, all that fun stuff.

While I'd love to play around on that lake, I'd be kind of stuck there. So I'll take that blobby island. :D

Mars c.2111

With the United Nations Government retarded by an endless stream of bureaucracy and corruption, mankind's future amongst the stars now lie mainly upon the groups and individuals willing to face the risks and establish the first human nations on the reborn Blue Planet.

The Gaelic Independence Movement, sick of the rampant British control back home, set sail for a new one: The Blue Planet.

Establishing their new homeland at the shore of Elysium Island, the light reflected from Elysium Mons shines upon them brightly as the sun rises upon a new age of history for the movement's constituent peoples.

The Interstellar Transportation Industries sets its eyes personally on the Blue Planet. Employing their private armed forces, the ITI Mobile Infantry, their meager space fleet, and an army of xenologists, archaeologists, and various researchers and scientists, they plan to scour the reborn world for any remaining artifacts, and if possible, the holy grail of interstellar travel: FTL.

To this end, they utilize, New Port Royal, their Mars-based headquarters situated beside the Hellas Sea, as their center of operations.

McBurgerFry Inc., the ubiquitous fast-food serving juggernaut plants the first seeds of its new large-scale farming project on the reborn Blue Planet.

The private military companies employed [and owned] by McBurgerFry Inc. set up camp all along the perimeter of the ever expanding cornfields.

As one harvester would say: "Fields of corn!"

The Hydropolis Green establishes a flipperfoothold on the Blue Planet after fleeing the dying Earth along with a vast number of rare and endangered creatures.

Reaching their destination, the shores of Amazonis Bay which they promptly style as Hydrohai Bay, they set up a seafaring nation and begin to make life anew amongst the strange [and potentially dangerous] denizens of this new alien world.

The Scion Collective, seeing the relative freedom of the new Martian frontier, sends its own foreman, an artificial intelligence known as COMBINE, to the surface of the Blue Planet.

Landing north of Ascraeus Mons, the wise machine and its army of drones construct a preliminary base of operations beside the nearby lake.

True Australia establishes its first city on the banks of a large lake situated between the Margaritifer Forest and Argyre Sea.

They quickly set out to spread their people across the land, establishing the base for the coming resurrection of the "original" Australian nation.

The ASS [Aristocracy of Superior Sentients] establish their foothold on the Blue Planet. Setting up base on a large island in the middle of the Acidalia and Utopia Seas, they construct a sprawling scientific complex which is practically self-contained.

They conduct a large-scale accelerated cloning project to manufacture their first line of genetically engineered soldiers and workers. Due to the planet's significantly weaker gravity, the Aristocracy's individual manpower are capable of reaching elephantine heights without any significant drawbacks.

Out of Character Notes:

As you can see, I used contemporary Martian nomenclature for the various geographical features on the planet as my basis. This doesn't mean that you can't give them a new name. It just means that you'll have to convince the other factions first before they accept the new names, kinda like in real life.

Also, yes, that map already has the factions in it. It's just that everyone's still starting out.

Right, first off, rename the island Gaelica. Then, set up a few Research Stations, and Mining Operations

IF POSSIBLE: Begin research on life of Gaelica (that's a soft c, like Liquorice) and the surrounding waters. Probably can't, since building a research station probably takes more then one turn <3

With it's preliminary base set up, COMBINE proceeds to take the first steps towards fulfilling it's primary directive.

COMBINE sends out a small force of mining/scout drones to search the surrounding areas for any harvestable resources, preferably mining materials.

(That second Drone, the one on the bottom, it's floating, just so you know.)

Also begin setting up Mining Operations and some Drone Factories.

Also rename the area LZ:1 (Landing Zone 1)

Send out prospectors and archeologists with infantry escorts to start searching the surrounding area for anything, if they find nothing, look for minerals and reinforce New Port Royal.

First off rename the island Garido and the lake The Tuyta. Second, create a variety of genetic based castes. This system will be as follows.
*Aristocrats: Genetically engineered humans who are physically more attractive, but weaker and frailer, and intellectually superior to the other castes.
*Warriors: The army of Elephant-Men (as the extremely strong humans will now be referred to as) and a cross between EM and Aristocrats as a commanding group (these being physically stronger at the cost of appearance, and more mentally capable than most, most specifically in the regions of memory, tactics and logic).
*Genecarvers: Men and women capable of advanced mathematics and sciences from an early age, the Genecravers are the backbone of ASS society. Genecarvers have one purpose, to carve the environment to needs of the people of ASS. They carve all foetuses into the caste they are destined to be (occasionally a different one, given the right... 'provocation'), the caste being determined at the the end of the 3rd month randomly.
*Traders: The merchants and diplomats of the nation. Only difference between Traders and plain homo sapiens is their physical appearance, Traders being far more attractive than any living human.
*The Growth: The Growth are little more than a collectively sentient group of humans. Being a hiveminded caste The Growth are no better than humans in all respects but one. The Growth tend to have more limbs and are more dexterous than homo sapiens and they collectively pride themselves on that.
(Aristocrats: Homo superiora optime Warrior (EM): Homo elephas sapiens Warrior (Commander): Homo ursa optime Genecarver: Homo flectere vitam Trader: Homo bellus amicus The Growth: Homo unmultorum cerebrum)

Third, expand the self-contained cities over the sea, sending pillars down to the bottom of the ocean for support if necessary. The cities are to have a dock nearest the sea for trading.

Spaceport Epsilon is a large orbital and land-based construct, acting as a large-scale fast-transport ground-to-space space elevator and station. Anchored in the center of the large crater at the bottom-right of the map, it is, at the moment, only a small orbital station, and a large anchor-like building sunk into the seabed. Plans for further construction include mining drills in the anchor, and multiple points for mag-lev rail transit across the planet.

Its first move would be acquiring permits to transport agricultural products from the McBurgerFry farmland to orbit, facilitating faster shipping to Earth (At a small shipping and handling charge, of course.)

As the second year of colonization ends, the government's scheduled inspection of the newly established colonies is delayed by yet another massive scandal within the upper echelons of the New United Nations Spacy. With this unexpected relief, the many factions flourishing on the Blue Planet's surface slowly begin to acquaint themselves with their newfound environment.

The Gaelic Independence Movement, styles their new haven the island of "Gaelica." They then proceed to set up several research outposts and shallow mining operations all across their portion of the island, as well as some offshore installations.

The Movement is quite keen on studying the indigenous lifeforms of their new home world. In line with this ideal, plans for a focused ecological research operation will commence as soon as construction of the settlements are complete.

Oh, and the group has recently set aside a portion of their resources to construct a naval base just north of their capital.

The Interstellar Transportation Industries begins sending out infantry-escorted prospectors and archeologists to the nearby areas. Results of the prospecting were quite satisfactory, for the most part, with several prime mineral concentrations detected in the area.

However, what really caught the ITI's eyes were the recent finds in a small nearby cave system. Archeologists seem to have discovered a some unusual rock formations that seem to have been carved onto the cavern walls. Further study is needed to determine the origin of this phenomenon.

Back in New Port Royal [Argh! Sorry, can't resist...] proper, enforcements are set up to protect the city from external environmental factors.

McBurgerFry Inc., renames their local region the "Home of the Cornquirribl." A message of good tidings is soon composed by the company and sent to all other factions.

Not wanting to keep its loyal customers waiting any further, the vast tracts of land [no not that one] are quickly converted into large swaths of plowed soil as the first batch of crops are planted into the ground.

All across the newly established megafarm, another megastructure begins to rise from the earth, or should I say, sink into it. A massive network of pipes and sprayers start to take form as the infrastructure needed to maintain the precious crops

Everything seems well for the new enterprise, though there seems to be a small matter which ought to be looked at by the management: The crops on the very northern reaches of the region seem to be, for a lack of better terms, developing some unusual characteristics. While the fields were expected to yield larger than usual crops due to the lesser strain of the blue Planet's gravity, it was in no way within anyone's expectations for the very first harvest to see even a single, let alone several, patches of glow in the dark rainbow-colored corncobs.

While no one needs to be a scientist to know that this is absolutely fabulous, further studies are still required to find out whether such batches are safe for human consumption.

The Hydropolis Green constructs a large [it was thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis big] enclosed biome area, a basic harbor facility and a dozen or so compact habitation facilities for residential purposes.

Aware of the importance of having a steady supply of food, a transmission is sent to McBugerFry to negotiate a trade route for the purpose of importing produce from the company.

With it's preliminary base set up, the Scion Collective's foreman, COMBINE, proceeds to take the first steps towards fulfilling it's primary directive.

COMBINE begins deploying a small force of mining and scout drones to search the surrounding region for any viable resources, primarily minerals.

While this is happening, basic mining operations are quickly set up in the mountainsides, where mineral concentrations appear to be highest. To speed up the operations, drone factories are constructed and soon put to work bolstering the initial workforce.

By the Collective's directive, the area north of Ascraeus Mons is renamed "LZ:1" or "Landing Zone 1."

Unlike most other groups, True Australia began to uphold a more traditional method of initial expansion.

Pouring all of its resources into improving its initial colony, True Australia 's first city expands along the coastline as another branch slowly creeps inland.

The ASS [Aristocracy of Superior Sentients] renames their home island "Garido" and the lake within it the "Tuyta."

The Aristocracy saw it fit to create a variety of genetically engineered castes:

Aristocrats: Homo superiora optime, genetically engineered humans who are physically more attractive, but weaker and frailer. They are intellectually superior to the other castes.

Warriors: Homo elephas sapiens, the army of previously mentioned "Elephant-Men." The "Commanding Group," Homo ursa optime, a crossbreed of EM and Aristocrats, acts as the commanders of the military. These commander are physically stronger at the cost of appearance, and more mentally capable than most, most specifically in the regions of memory, tactics and logic.

Genecarvers: Men and women capable of advanced mathematics and sciences from an early age, the Genecravers, Homo flectere vitam, are the backbone of ASS society. Genecarvers have one purpose, to carve the environment to meet the needs of the people of the ASS. They carve all fetuses into the caste they are destined to be, occasionally a different one, given the right... "provocation," with the caste being determined at the the end of the 3rd month randomly.

Traders: Homo bellus amicus, the merchants and diplomats of the nation. Only difference between Traders and plain homo sapiens sapien being their physical appearance, Traders being far more attractive than any living human.

The Growth: Homo unmultorum cerebrum, little more than a collectively sentient group of humans. Being a hiveminded caste, The Growth are no better than humans in all respects but one. The Growth tend to have more limbs and are more dexterous than homo sapiens sapien, collectively priding themselves on it.

The Aristocracy also begins to expand its self-contained cities over the sea, sending pillars down to the bottom of the ocean for support where necessary. The cities' layouts are designed for efficient economic transactions, with docks nearest the sea for trading.

A new player, Spaceport Epsilon enters the new frontier a year late of the others.

Its first move was the acquisition of permits to transport agricultural products from McBurgerFry's surface-based farmlands to orbit, facilitating faster shipping to Earth, at a small shipping and handling charge, of course, which eventually concluded in a seven percent [7%] share of gains per shipment.

Out of Character Notes:

"That second Drone, the one on the bottom, it's floating, just so you know."

Sure thing.

With the planet's core active again, hover tech would be quite feasible on the surface.

Get a farm up and running inside the biome. Expand the harbor complex and send out research ships to investigate marine life. Start a GM project on whales to make them smaller and so they can breath the foreign atmosphere. Create a hydroplant and a fully equipped radio station. Create the HydroConserve. Its mission will include closing of the area of Hyrdohai Bay to the invasion and manipulation of other nations. It will also create numerous programs, asking Earth's citizens to leave to the Hydropolis and informing them on the fragility of nature. It will also be searching for funders and charities to support the building of the ferries that will ship future populations. But I think we have enough to build a station though.

Investigate the cave system and request Spaceport Epsilon for permission to be allowed to dock ITI transport vessels. In fact, request McBurgerFry Inc for permission to transport their produce to Earth for 5% of the profits.

Unless they have their own transport vessels...

Continue to expand the city, both on land and on the sea. Build large hydroponics buildings to grow food which is genetically engineered to provide more nutrients than its predecessors. Look into hovertech so that the cities may expand further across the planet at a lower cost to resources. Also build a large number of factories designed to construct filtration masks and armour for the Elephant Men.

Yes. Depends on the species, though, since they'll have to compete with the local wildlife.

Rule of thumb, large bodies of water are saltwater while small crater lakes are primarily freshwater.

Accept ITI request. Begin use of mining drill, and use available materials to begin construction of cargo facilities for goods awaiting transportation.

The Brotherhood Collective must expand!

COMBINE continues expanding all facilities and continue searching for more minerals to create more drones, all while keeping and eye out for any anomalies that might be worth the Collectives interest.

((General Expansion basically))

Desu is the copula, meaning it's used the way we use "is."

Yes, Yuu is using it IRONICALLY because there is a perception that every Japanese sentence ends with desu. No, they don't.

Okay, unfortunately.

College is cutting into a large chunk of my time right now [which was why I got flamed off of the Superpower RP, multiple times, by the way], terribly sorry.

I just couldn't afford doing all of this simultaneously.

I wish I could get on it, but stuff happens.

If you'd like, you could continue this, though I would appreciate if you would step down your nation in doing so, in order to prevent accusations of self-wanking. PM me anything about the game and I'll answer you via PM.

Again, sorry.
