Star Trek: Voyager
« on: November 10, 2010, 10:32:05 pm »
Hey I recently began watching Voyager again. Pretty decent show with a grand finale and good overreaching plot.
Have you seen it? Do you have thoughts on it, favourite characters?
My favourite character is probably Tom Paris for being a player at the beginning... Seven of nine is nice too, but for other reasons  ::)

OK, both of you die and let us know what happens.

Voyager is a decent series but it has to have some of the most preposterous individual plots and sci-fi mumbo jumbo of any of the Star Trek series (For the most extreme example, recall the episode where using an experimental faster-than-warp engine technology makes Tom Paris "evolve" into a newt.).

But otherwise its good solid fun and in between the preposterously stupid episodes there are some really good ones.

And yes, Seven of Nine is a total babe.

It's really saying something that one of the best episodes of Voyager was the one where everyone expect the doctor was dead for a thousand years.

The one where the future aliens think Voyager was a warship crewed by nazis and cyborg killing machines?

And the doctor had to prove to the people that only the Captain was insane. :P

That's the one.

Yeah, Doctor episodes are great. They're like TNG's Data episodes.

Ah Threshold the staple of some really really bad trek. It's worth checking out SFDebris review of that episode on Youtube. In fact SFDebris has given me all new appriciation of Voyger. I can watch the show with out seeing Janeway as a tyrant, Kim as a sexual devient who is Janeways chew toy and can enjoy how Chekotay's life long dream to become what ever it is this weeks aliens give him the oppurtunity to be.

^ I concur with Cobra's recommendation to check out Chuck/Sfdebris.

Though I'll be a bit more helpful and link to his Youtube profile :P

Back when the show was on my English teacher in high school was 1st cousins with the actress who played B'Elanna Torres. She even kind of looked like her too (minus the Klingon makeup).

My favorite characters were The Doctor and Harry Kim.

Are we still watching Voyager? I got all Voyager'd out when Spike played the series through 5 times in a row.

It's been years since I saw DS9. I had no problem with it and if some channel started airing it regularly, I'd watch it.

Enterprise is on Sci-Fi channel semi-regularly. Those episodes are actually much better than I used to think.

DS9 is pretty awesome even if it takes a bit of time to get in to it. (But then again the first TNG episodes where pretty crap to.)

Not that it does not have its bad moments ether. I dislikes especialy the episode where Sisko builds a wooden boat to sail the star oceans. :P(I mean common! What was up with that?! That craft was more primitive then what is needed to get up in to space first place! Argh! That just annoys me!)

I just can't enjoy a series that explores from a fixed point. They've gotta go places.

They go plenty of places once they get the Defiant. Also, after they meet the Dominion...

Yeah i though the same thing Brandon when i first heard the concept but it turns out that they travel a lot in the show. The wormhole opens up a lot of exploration for them and later they get the Defiant. Wile the Defiant is no Enterprise is still a space worthy ship  ;D

I've been re-watching Star Trek: The Next Generation over the last few weeks. Making good progress. I've never seen the show in proper order as an adult, so it has been a lot of fun!

Pretty annoyed that Dr. Crusher up and vanished at the end of season one. Then I was even more annoyed when Dr. Pulaski disappeared to be replaced by Dr. Crusher! So far they have literally said nothing about Pulaski being gone. I liked her a lot. Dr. Crusher is good too! But I like Pulaski more.
