HBO's Game of Thrones
« on: September 13, 2010, 10:54:29 am »
I was surprised I couldn't find a thread about this yet.

HBO is making a series based on G.R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire books, called Game of Thrones. And it's starting to look pretty good, starring among other Sean Bean and Peter Dinklage!

Here is some teasers and a behind the scenes look:

A multitude of rulers is not a good thing. Let there be one ruler, one king.

Yeah it's good, I like some of the switch ups they've done when they've strayed from the books. It's going to be really really interesting in a few years when the show really blazes it's own trail; it's going to be like some sort of weird manga/anime thing where the show outpaces the original source material due to the writer being slower than the directors.

I hope it turns out well, and that the show continues to keep this quality of variation, it's been really interesting so far.

No, no, he did. In the everything else section, at least. Officially, this makes him king.

I'm afraid Stannis absorbed all the justice-based murder potential in the area.

But now there is enough again because of the proportional increase in unjust murder at Castle Black.

Or is a justice-based murder equivalent to like 10 bad ones?

I only had one problem with the finale (except for that the final scene reminding me of Lost)... and that one problem was Ramsay Bolton surviving.

Ramsay is just the most magically competent person in Westeros it seems. He is preternaturally aware of peoples actions, and is prepared for them. He can analyze situations and make very good guesses that turn out right. He can out fight anyone without much trouble even with the handicap of a lack of armor and being surprised. He is the only character so far to have overcome any of the magic based Hoodoo employed by any character without his own hoodoo. He is basically evil Batman.

They aren't all dead already?  I was under the impression that they had burned through so many actors that they had to start bringing in children as replacements.  Like that one girl the internet was going crazy for an episode or two ago.

Huh. Holy ****. Maybe.

Tyrion has long been rumored to be a targ, his mom died in child birth too

Though, Dany didn't die. But she didn't really have the kid.

The mad king was pretty rapey.

Though if what you say is true Erops then it would mean all of the obvious "author favourites" who are unlikely to permanently die until very late in the story are half-siblings, aside from Arya, who I guess is properly Jon's cousin.

Lady Mormont steals every scene in which she appears.

I do have one question if anyone has read the books.  Is death by childbirth a thing in House Targaryen, or perhaps for non-Targaryen women who breed with Targaryen men?  That might help explain the incest as well.

Without access to  modern medicine  dying during childbirth is a thing for anyone during this  medieval   fantasy period,Targaryen incest may have started as an attempt keep their bloodlines "Pure" while keeping power within their family, obviously this made their genetics worse.

I'm just sayin', I don't see anyone else commanding dragons.
Nefarious?  Nearly.  Ne’er-do-well?  Never!  Neither nearly names this narrator.  Naive and knowledgeable, notorious and inscrutable, this nascent Nero is known naturally as Neoadept.
