Elfen Lied

Beneath a layer of blood and gore lies a serious drama about the darker aspects of humanity, including nature versus nurture, with a total lack of happy endings.

I've watched the series, though the manga tends to fill some plot holes presented in its anime adaption. Haven't completed the manga however, but for the most part it makes a sense.. more or less.

Despite it being quite brutal and even anvilischious at times it's symbolism and morals are very clear and actually makes you ponder many mind boggling if not very psychological questions.
Kid: Oh wow I'm being deflowered by a grown woman!
Mother: By the way I'm your mother

EDIT: That's where it becomes rape if you were wondering.

just watch out for the one episode that isn't REALLY and episode, but a .... (fan?)made episode, or an episode made by a different japaneese animation powerhouse, the animation style is  completely different, but it's included in most releases of this show, i think this episode falls between 12 and 13? maybe? I dunno, it's been about a year since i've given this any thought
