The Club-Tail Saga: Crisis on Kuuruk
« on: August 28, 2010, 10:19:32 pm »
It was just another day for the xenobiologists of the Heavy Heart. As the crew returned home, there were obvious differences between them.

Mlirku Rabay, the team's leader, was a female of about 32. She was headstrong, and tended to punctuate her sentences with "-bler." She looked over at her second-in-command, a younger female named Syhiru Mallid. She was shy, and uncomfortable around most of the others. In addition, there were the twin brothers, Miid and Pa'kk Dramis. The two of them were the least dedicated members of the team. However, they all had the same look on their face. It should have, of course, because of what they had just seen. Right before their eyes, there was a large, semi-terrestrial icthyo-arthropod... that had emerged from an underground lake. And it was trying to eat their ship. According to news reports, there were more of these things.

The Galdeen Army, after hearing reports of large creatures emerging from lakes and coastlines, had diverted troops and vehicles to protect as many towns and cities as possible. The one in charge of the Galdeen ground forces on Kuuruk was General Kraik. Reports were starting to trickle in on his forces opening fire on these on one of these creatures that had attempted to attack a town.

Kraik watched his tactical map in his Type-3 Mobile Command Vehicle as icons showing enemy contact appearing all over the region map.

"What is going on," He muttered.

"Quick, get me Genral Kraik!" Mlirku muttered. Immediately, a communication device was thrown to her.
//This is Mlirku Rabay of the Heavy Heart. We have recently returned to find these creatures rampaging here. We believe they have attacked due to environmental damage. During the wars, many of the caverns that kept them trapped inside were used as bases or excavated. Now, someone is most likely tampering with their natural habitat, and the creatures are retaliating!//

Kraik pressed a button that allowed him to reply.

"Acknowledged. Lets find that someone and quickly, I don't have enough troops on this world to protect every town and village. Do you think some Nirbalu fanatics have something to do with this?"

//Well, there seems to be a problem with the wildlife, bler. Some of the icthyo-arthropods have been driven from their homes, and now they're rampaging, bler! I don't know what to-//
Before she could finish her sentence, Mlirku was knocked onto her side by a glancing blow. That's when she saw the Nirbalu troops headed towards her group. Quickly, they all searched for and found a transport. Heading toward General Kraik's location, they managed to turn the Nirbalu forces away with the transport's guns. Ever since the fateful day the Galdeen and Quroche arrived three years prior, Kabalu had taken to refitting its transports with railguns. It was a VERY good idea. Miid and Pa'kk reestablished contact, allowing Mlirku to speak.
//I don't know what to do about these creatures! My guess is that they were driven out by the same forces we were just attacked by, bler!//

"Who were you attacked by?" Kralik asked, then railgun fire was heard outside his MCV. He moved to the viewing area of the bridge and saw Nirbalu forces attacking the Galdeen base he was in, Firebase Alpha. The Nirbalu forces had only a few vehicles and only one of those had a railgun on it that was likely stolen.

Even though locally made railguns are weaker than the Galdeen versions, they're still a threat to light armored vehicles and infantry, so the Nirbalu tank was already a smoking wreck. The rest of the attacking forces were dispatched quickly, it wasn't like the remainder of the Nirbalu military changed in the last 3 Kuuruk-standard years.

The General walked back to the holo tank in the middle of the bridge after the last Nirbalu troops were either killed or taken prisoner. There were no causalities "We were just attacked by Nirbalu troops, I thought they were defeated years ago in combination of our ground troops and a Union ship."

"Which one? Kabalu's, Interstellar Space Navy's, or Union's?" He asked as he tapped in the keys that would allow him to contact any of the three on the subspace comm system.

"I'm not sure about that daddy." Replied the captain. "The current WMD regulations would require GPA oversight but because there's a clear and present danger by a foreign party the shooting orders lie with the lowest represented unit. Brb." After a quick search he gained an answer. "That's Kabalu so get the lizards on the comms so we can powwow and sling this ding, you feel me?"

Kralik sighed, the Space Union may be more technologically, but they didn't take things seriously. "Alright, connecting..." He waited until a light turned blue, showing the connection was secure. "Kabalu military command, this General Kralik. Do you read me? Over."

Kabalu, Nirulimuka, War Hall

The leaders of Kabalu's military were gathered once again. They had not expected Nirbalu to attack again, and the uproar was nearing a fever pitch when the messages came through. There was a slight pause, but the vote was unanimous.
"Alright. BLOW THEM ALL UP! We don't care WHAT you use, just go!"
They then realized how they had all spoken in unison.

After doing a flybly over to the capital of Kiriabulu the admiral gave a message.

//Attention all punk-ass Kirabulans, if you don't want to wind up as cosmic flatulence, I suggest you all get to stepping and tell your leaders to nix buckin in our faces as well as dropping all your glocks to Space Union supervision. Nirbalu, Grand Temple of Mount Druvis

The High Priest of the Flame had heard the message. While he was wetting himself, Nirbalu's secular leader agreed on one thing: that it was time to take the country for themselves.
The one to make the announcement was Treasurer Limik. With a sly smirk on her face, she said,
"Well now, it looks like you've gotten us into yet another mess. I think we don't want a third crisis like this, now do we?"
"NO! PLEASE! DOES NOT THE FIRE BURN WITHIN YOU!?"
"I'm afraid not. Now say hello to your little flame-god for me. <3"
She then shot him. With that, the rest was easy.
//This is Treasurer Limik. I'll be happy to acede to your demands. We let this idiot run the place for far too long.//

Several squadrons of Galdeen Marines atmospheric craft flew over Kiriabulu, ready to bomb every Nirbalu military base in the city in plasma fire if they attempt to attack either them or the Space Union starship. Galdeen army units surrounded the city, rail guns and plasma cannons aimed and ready to siege them if necessary.

Walls of Kiriabulu

"No, don't fire the turrets! WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE- DON'T TOUCH THAT!!!"
Limik was having a hard time keeping the soldiers under control. Her plan was almost complete. It was all going well so far. Get Nirbalu blown to smithereens, work her way up through Kabalu's chain of command, and get close enough to Irbilika to... no. She couldn't afford to dream that far ahead yet. Right now, she had to prevent a genocide. But she was too late, as the sound of turrets flared up on the other side of the wall. Knowing that she was dead if she stayed, Limik got in her transport and fled for the nearest border town. There would be no escape within the walls.

The Marines' aircraft were capable of leaving the city within five seconds, so in the time they have been given from the Space Union ship, they bombed every military base in the city with their plasma cannons.

The Army units attacked the city, unfortunately, they had no experience attempting a siege of a city that was more than capable of holding out. The Galdeen Army started using a mixture of local and ancient Galieen siege tactics, and from the eyes of a experienced general like Kralik, the tactics needed some work, but was still proving useful at the moment. The troopers taking cover behind fallen logs and taking pot-shots at the enemy soldiers on the walls while the tanks used their rail and plasma cannons to destroy anti-vehicle turrets

When it was ten seconds away from when the Union ship would fire, the Marine aircraft engaged their afterburners and boosted out of the city. Ground soldiers took cover behind any cover they could find.

KABOOM!!!
The city of Kiriabulu, once so proud, was in ruins. Limik had escaped the city itself, but had not taken into account the range of the strike. She writhed in pain, slowly, as a small group of merchants looked in shock at the destruction.
"Well, there go our profits."
Anyone in Nirbalu could say the same.

Three days later...

The time had come for the division of Nirbalu's existing territory. There were two parties that could benefit: The Space Union and the Rimlis tribe of the central grasslands. Their ancestral home had recently been taken by Nirbalu, and they wanted it back. Irbilika wished to take the coastal deserts for his country, while giving the inland farmland to his friends in the Space Union. On the site of the ruined capital, a base of communications and correspondence was to be placed.

Galdeen engineers and architects that had arrived from the Galdeen homeworld requested King Irbilika and the Space Union if they could assist in the city's reconstruction and if allowed, construct a orbital elevator that would benefit Kuuruk and the Space Union and it's members greatly.

The approval notice was sent almost instantly. However, Irbilika had one last request for now.
"Now that this business is conducted, I would like to end this war. There's too much at stake here. Now, Baluvar is in a bit of a bind. Its council declared war on us, but I did recieve intelligence that one member voted against the motion. From what I heard, his name is... DORUM FALTHUS. I don't know how he managed to obtain the royal family's name, but I will be needing assistance on this matter. I would like to seek him out myself, which means that someone in this room is going to have to run things while I'm gone. Any suggestions?"

"You may want to take escorts with you your highness," General Kralik said. The Galdeen Ambassador Geeni nodded and said, "The general is right, I suggest you take a pair of our marines with you. If this nation-state is hostile to us, you may want to be careful. Take one of our shield units with you, it may come in handy."

"I second that notion." Stated Nymeidiam diplomat and Space Union Visiser Rayyaall KathUUk. "I also may add that this recently vacated territory may serve as an answer to our local sea-beast problem." He then brought up a holographic display. "The reserve would be a copressed version of the net cities already planned to be placed for the colonists of the recently avaible wastes that cover most of this world." He changed the map again integrating the orbital elevator." This city very well could serve as the capital of Space Union activities. As for your escort I suggest Mr. M." As if one cue a burly Nymedian of a hight f 5'5" entered the roomn he was a very dark green almost pine colour and he wore a large pair of sunglassn which would normally look quit ludicorus on a one-eyed being, but was somehow managed to be pulled off. May I Be?" "Of assistance!" The diplomat nervously interjected. "Mr. M here will take all your questions I have a meeting with a certain Alien Flett commander, todaloo!" And with that he slunked out the door-hole instaled in the base for Nymedians.

"I'll never get how they became so technologically advance when they act like that and who said we were going to construct a zoo for those bugs," Kralik sighed. "Anyway, we just received reinforcements from Gakilos. We now have enough troops to protect every city and town. As for villages, we'll evacuate them to the cities. We'll handle this while your gone your highness."

"Agreed. By the way, I left some pie in the pantry. It's down the hall, second door on your left. But there's only one Ggrk pie, you might want to try and get that before anybody else does..."
Irbilika snickered, then left the room.

A pair of marines approached King Irbilika.

"Your highness, we were sent by General Kralik to protect you when you go into Baluvar. We were also ordered to give you this." The marine pulled out a foot-wide metal cylinder with glowing lines on it. "This is a personnel cold plasma shield unit. It will hold up to three hits from one of our plasma cannons. Even more against local weaponry. As for our transportation, we have a Raptor to move around in." He pointed to a Galdeen marine air vehicle nearby.

"Thank you," Irbilika said, "and here."
He handed them a small device of unknown origin and function.
"Our scientists have not been able to reverse-engineer it. However, it was found in the ruins, so it must do something. Perhaps your people will have better luck."
