First: Nahequi
Second: Shub

But I'm also happy to fill another spot if the need arises.

Also, it would probably be good to mention that Mr Wizard will be filling the role of Hanafus and his angels.

The best person ever.  She should have won the Peace Prize.

What? No full control over children? You do realize that some of us have particular plans for those children.

Out of curiosity, are we going to mostly be focusing on creating original races, or should we stick more to "traditional" fantasy fare?

Good question. The world of Cyona already has a continent which has the various staple fantasy races (human, elf, dwarf, orc, hobbit et al) so we'd like to avoid those. However, we don't want too many really far out alien-style races. The bulk of intelligent races should be roughly humanoid and not have too many crazy superpowers, since eventually we'll be writing up rules for these races and using them as player characters and enemies in DnD games.

That said, there is certainly room for some more non-standard creatures on the continent. As an upper limit on power and differentness, think intelligent dragons, truly huge giants, tree people, living statues and the like.

Second: Nahequi

Since a fair number of people are interested in Nahequi, I'll change my second choice to my third choice. So now it looks like this:

First: Baloria
Second: Imornouz

May I throw an potentially interesting idea out into the field?  Do with it what you will, just something to consider as you craft your wonderous land of fantasy.

It could be interesting to have a dead race in the world.  Thing the Aelids from Oblivion or the Tevinter Imperium from Dragon Age.  You know, take a race, advance them, and then wipe them out.  The land is then left strewn with the ancient ruins of this race.  They could prove useful as dungeons in future camapigns as well as a source of valuable relics.

Just something to think about.

That should happen organically as we play the game.

Feuds between races and factions should happen naturally and will be allowed to play out to their logical conclusion. Races WILL die and leave behind their cities and ruins.

That's what I'm hoping.  Just need to make sure that people don't play too defensivly.

EDIT: Also,

1. Valian
2. Rahdin

Oh i recommend that all you newbies read up a bit about the lore. Both as inspiration and as a way to see what has been done. Also helps when it comes to understanding the deity you have chosen.
