What evidence is there to support that? It would have played out exact the same way if he was not dreaming.

And thus you realize why this movie could end no other way.

I think that the fact that his kids are still in same place (and that the whole place looks similar to his memory of it) is more indicative of being in dream state than a wobbly top.

In the movie they talk about the fact that you can't touch someone else's totem because then you can use it to convince someone they're in reality, by perfectly simulating it. Since Cobb was both the architect and the dreamer, he knew what the totem felt like and so his mind perfectly simulated it. As the dream points out, you don't normally realizing you're dreaming until it's over.

In one sequence, we see that all it took to convince Mal that she was in reality was planting the fallen top into her subconscious.

And yeah, as Gungnir just said, it was exactly like his last memory of the house.
No way dude, you're trolling me.

Yes, but that still isn't enough.

The reason the place looks similar to his memory, is because its his house which is the place that his memory is based off, so of course It will look exact the same. That provides no proof that he is in a dream.

Unless you are saying that the whole time he was assembling the team together, he was dreaming and Mal was actually right about committing suicide, then I have no real reason to believe that he was.

(Sorry if that made no sense.)

So much for avoiding spoilers.

I choose to think the top was going to tip over, because that's the happier ending.

That would make even less sense, as the top did topple a few times during the movie

Let's not forget that the entire movie is dotted with hints that DiCaprio is dreaming, such as his father saying "Come back to reality, son", or that Ariadne was the name of the Greek Goddess of mazes (not to mention other cast members having mildly mythological names), etc.

I wouldn't put too much into the characters' names.  Characters often get names that are meaningful or reference something just because the writer feels like it.

I heard someone pose the question - why is Mal sitting on the ledge opposite their hotel room when she's about to kill herself.

Things make sense in a dream, and only after we wake up do we realize anything was strange!

Saw it last night, was able to whisper the my girl friend That they would end the movie before we found out if the top fell, I like the idea of it being reality (for the reason of it being a nicer ending to) having said that the top being simulated theory works being it his own totem in his own dream.

The rest of the whole movie I treated like watching Pyschonaughts: the movie. Just had some cool parallels the strange gravity effects the mind fighting back against intruders etc.

I loved the action sequence where Yusuf's van was tumbling and Arthur is fighting projections in the hotel.
