Nice base for a plot, they could have done a lot with it, but just... didn't. It had the potential to be more up to "The Matrix" standards, but unfortunately it ended up as more of an "ExistenZ." There is some eyecandy, some interesting moments, but it is all pretty thin on the ice, and the little plot hooks they throw can be guessed a mile away by anyone who watches the occasional movie. Not bad, but not something i'd really watch again. Missable.

I can't think of a Leo movie that wouldn't have been improved by having a casting change.

Catch Me If You Can? Shutter Island? He was awesome in those.

I find it sad you can't think of someone who could have done a better job.  :P
Guess you've never heard of Zac Efron or Justin Bieber!  ;D

Plenty could. That is the case for most movies though, so its really not a point for any sort of argument

Yes, if the primary demographic for those films were teen/tweenage girls. Plus, isn't Justin Bieber a singer? And so has no acting ability whatsoever?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Shutter Island certainly wasn't aimed there.

Indeed. DiCaprio's a pretty good actor. Perhaps a little type-cast, though.

I have to say, I really liked it!

But I mean, there's a cliff hanger ending, and then there's just plain cruelty.

It's not a cliff-hanger. It's ambiguity, or uncertainty.

Yeah... A load of my friends and people I know evidently don't know what ambiguity is. They just thought we were meant to see that it hadn't fallen. :/
No way dude, you're trolling me.

Meh, that's pretty much what I meant.

It's meant to leave you questioning a number of possible options.

1. Was he still in a dream? (Unlikely, as the top never wobbled in a dream)
2. Was he in reality?
3. Is Michael Cane really good at spinning tops?
4. Was his wife right and is his reality just another layer of the dream? (This is my bet. Too many hints towards it throughout the film)

They could never give you a definite answer, though. That'd ruin the whole point of the film.

I believe that he was in a dream at the end, and the top was starting to wobble because it's his totem, and he knows how it feels and stuff. I believe it would also start to wobble if he was 100% convinced it was reality, and the dream physics are only really based on the conviction of the dreamer.
