The Galactic Conflict - Part 1
« on: May 19, 2010, 02:37:57 pm »
The Photos warfleet was traveling at full speed towards the homeworld of the Perrachi Empire. They weren't in warp, as the drive needed to recharge. Not far from the fleet, a small shuttle dropped out of warp, and docked with the Devastator, the flagship of the Photos fleet. Aboard it was a High Tribune, assigned to the GPA. He made his way to the bridge, where he barged in without a single pleasantry.
"Val'ones, you little slime mold! Do you have ANY idea of the reprucussions of the actions you're taking!?! Attacking the Perrachi would be foolhardy alone, but a FORCE OF ARMS?!?" The High Tribune said.
"What are you afraid of, Tar'vhix? Alltogether, we can more than handle the PSR's amassed forces?" Val'ones asked him plainly.
"Are you a complete moron, Dal'buren!?!" Tar'vhix referred to him by last name. That's offensive. REALLY offensive. "It's not the damned fight I'm worried about, you dunce, I'm worried about what will happen AFTER the dust has settled. This isn't some two-bit cockememe punk empire we're dealing with, we're talking about one of the most- if not THE most- powerful empire in the galaxy! The immidiate reprecussions alone are staggering. Don't you get it? This is suicide by poison!" Tar'vhix spat.
"Oh, so you call an eye for an eye wrong?" Val'ones asked, his patience thin.
"No, I call THIS wrong! This isn't an eye for an eye! This is an eye for an arm and two damn legs! This is butchery! THIS IS SLAUGHTER! Not to mention the fact that the empire houses an undefended Union that has not prevoked us in any way!" Tar'vhix sputtered.
"Casualties of War, I suppose." Val'ones said. Tar'vhix was stunned.
"I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU JUST ****ING SAID THAT! CASUALTIES OF WAR!?! WHAT KIND OF LEADER ARE YOU!?! YOU CALL THE SLAUGHTER OF MILLIONS OF INNOCENTS "JUSTICE"? THAT'S NOT JUSTICE, THAT'S GENOCIDE!" Tar'vhix screamed at the top of his lungs.
"Careful, High Tribune. You're getting close to treason. I don't give a damn what your status is, I'll have your ass thrown in lockdown like any other criminal." Val'ones said in the most intimidating tone he could find.
"Carful, Commander, you're forgetting something. I'm a High Tribune, selected by the High Council to distribute justice whereever there is injustice. I have the ability to throw your ass in lockdown, sir!

Eight Star Admiral Volora Zetariyokiya sat impatiently on his desk as his vessel, the OMS Sutari, lead the Orealyianis portion of the Eight Fleet towards the Perachi homeworld of Perrawih.

"What is the current status on the PSR's border systems, lieutenant?", he asked one of his aides.

"No trace of Val'ones fleet whatsoever.", it replied.

"Excellent.", Volora smiled. "Maintain a steady course."

"Yes sir!"

The situation was pretty much the same with regard to the other constituents of the fleet.

They were planning on setting up shop on the PSR's outer systems before Val'ones fleet arrives. Hopefully, they will be able to put a stop to this madness before an entire nation gets wiped out due to a greatly mishandled diplomatic nightmare.

Tar'vhix took a moment to breathe and regain his composure.
"If you won't call off this stupid, childish retribute, I'll have no choice but to intervene." Tar'vhix said.
"Oh, I'd just love to see you try, buddy." Val'ones said.

((I'm kinda drawing this argument out for the moment, help emphasize the fact that he's stalling))

I dunno, I'm waiting for others to chime in. This is an RP, not a story, after all. You could involve the Ni-calls, they were involved in the Makal incident as well. They are also GPA members, after all. Read the GPA main thread.

The deed had been done at last. All government officials of the Makal homeworld of Yalkna were now either dead, captured, or in hiding. Across the entire planet, demonstrations were taking place. Many were cheering crowds of the amorphous Makal waving PSR flags and holding banners proclaiming the end of tyranny. Others were angry protesters calling for the re-institution of the monarchy. Some were simply violent, disorganized collections of anarchy, looting stores and taking advantage of order's collapse. But already Perrachi ships were touching down on the surface, full of military officers ready to create a new socialist republic for the people.

Meanwhile, on Perrawiih, there wasn't much rejoicing. The news of victory came, but also that the Photos had sent a massive invasion fleet headed for Perrawiih. Almost every vessel of the Republic was mobilized and sent to the front lines to confront the invaders, although there were still reports of a GPA fleet intercepting both PSR and Photos ships to prevent a war. President Talin had boarded a ship, his destination Yalkna. But would he be able to make it past the GPA blockade?

At the headquarters of the Communist Party of the Perrachi Socialist Republic, a secret meeting had been called. Several heads of local Party chapters were present. The mysterious leader spoke.

"Friends, it is time. A disproportionate and favorable number of Communists is within the military. We will be able to establish a transitional communist-led state on Makal. With public support for the Democratic Socialists and Liberals falling, our Party will grow even more rapidly then it already is. Then the galaxy's very first commune can be made! All Perrachi will be united and equal, deciding on every single issue themselves. More and more governments will be toppled, and a great egalitarian galactic union will be created! Now, here are the specifics of my... er, our plan..."
I came, I saw, I went back to bed.

((The Spoilers are censored swearing. If you or your parent/guardian would dissapprove, skip over them!))
"Damnit, Dalburen. Get this outta your head! This is insanit-" Tar'vhix was cut off by a punch to the stomach, followed to a kick to the upper body. It sent him stumbling back down the stairs of the catwalk. Of course, his armour took the impact, but still, it hurt his pride more than anything. He shook his head and got up off the floor, stunned control officers gasping and whispering at the unfolding drama.
"This was authorized by the High Council themselves. Not even you have the authority to intervene. NOW GET OFF MY DAMNED BRIDGE!" Val'ones ordered. Tar'vhix shuffled out the door grumbling, like a child who just got scolded. He looked at his command consol. The Warp Drive was recharged, and he ordered the fleet back into warp. Due to their haste, they beat the GPA blockade to the system. They dropped out of warp and were met with an awe-inspiring armada of spacecraft.
"SON OF A BITCH, THEY KNEW WE WERE COMING!" Val'ones shouted in horror. "Xylanis Mechanicus and Waratica ships, ahead full, get past that armada, launch Hothgars and Drop Pods! All other ships, move to engage the Perrachi war ships! Get the Xylanis ships some breathing room!" Val'ones screamed into the intercom, all ships scrambling to follow orders. The carriers launched their fighters and bombers, creating a swarm of craft. Val'ones knew, whichever way the battle went, it was going to be terrifying.

The council watched on from their respective offices around Calla, all appalled by the horrible show of power projection from both powers. If this was allowed to continue, the entire galaxy would be dragged to hell with these two superpowers leading the way. None could let it continue. The order was passed around, and a short poll was cast out of curiosity. 87% of the entire college population all agreed that this had to be taken under control. It was done. Once again, the fleet was mobilized (In fact, several this time around), this time directed toward Perrawiih, and this time they would be much less merciful.

As a precaution, Talsenreave sent a communication through to teh GPA: //I am terribly sorry for this intrusion into the battle ahead, but we simply cannot let this go unchecked. If you would be supportive of our attempt to eliminate the problem, we would be grateful, if not, then...//

Hopefully they would arrive in time.

Meanwhile, on the OMS Sutari...

//T-minus 20... 19... 18... 17... 16...//

The computer counted down as everyone prepared to re-enter normal space.

Volora's crew began to open a comms-line to Perrawih, unaware that a message has been sent from Talsenreave and will soon be intercepted by their fleet.

//T-minus 10... 9... 8... 7... 6...//

"Everyone, prepare for re-entry!", the Admiral announced over the craft's intercom.

Moments later, just above a certain border world's orbit, a colossal column of light erupted from the void, spilling out a plethora of different vessels. The massive cloud of guns and metal quickly arranged themselves into formation, right between the two other factions.

A quick scan of the entire array of warships revealed the emblems and insignia of a startling number of different governments and civilizations. And they all acted in unison.

The wall was set, and just in time to act as a strong deterrent to the Xylanis Waratica's own assembly.

Volora let out an inaudible sigh of relief after everyone was finally in their respective positions.

"Is the line to Perrawih finally up?", he asked his aides as he looked at the Photos and Perrachi formations which were now sandwiching them like, well, a sandwich.

"Almost. The system encountered a stray noi-", one answered before getting interrupted midway by an unexpected call.

"Captain! A message from Talsenreave!", a communicator said as he looked through the inbox, to which Volora raised what can be considered his brow.

"Open it.", the admiral ordered as he rose slightly from his chair.

//I am terribly sorry for this intrusion into the battle ahead, but we simply cannot let this go unchecked. If you would be supportive of our attempt to eliminate the problem, we would be grateful, if not, then...//

As the short message ended, Volora opened a line to the other members of the fleet, and even to Central Command itself.

Suffice to say, a unanimous decision was made as the Eighth Fleet sent back their own message.

//Your concern and assistance is greatly appreciated, management of Talsenreave. We are in full support of the attempt to eliminate the problem at hand. We too are grateful for your participation. Thank you.//

Afterward, a continuous line was opened to GPA Central Command, Talsenreave, the High Council, Val'ones' fleet, the Perrachi government and the Perrachi Stellar Navy. Everyone was continually hailed by the Eighth Fleet. It was now up to the factions if they would answer it or not.

GPA Command was quite relieved to have reached the front just in time, not to mention that getting the support of the NUTS' own military was a very big plus in the road to straightening out this overblown mess.

In any case, the rest of the GPA's fleets are all in full, or partial, mobilization and can be depended upon when calling for additional support, if ever it was required.

Finally, the coalition could afford some time to restore their lost composure.

At least for the time being.

"Attention GPA ships, get out of here! This is none of your concern." Val'ones said into the line brought up. He closed the line on his end.
"Right-o, folks. Start charging the antimatter guns, get them online ASAP, and target the largest, most powerful PSR ships you can see." Val'ones ordered. On the Photos ships, the automated guns aimed at their targets and began firing.

The Xylanis Mecanius ship Maelstrom was almost in drop range. Several PSR ships already had their number, and the only thing keeping them alive were the point-defense guns, shooting down the nukes before they could hit. Sure, the blasts were shaking the ship and searing the side, but they were alive. The ship's guns were returning fire in volleys, and they had already scored down one ship with a lucky shot, it took out the bridge. However, that was as far as luck took them. Their sister ship, the Monarchy, had gotten destroyed, and a Xylanis Waratica ship had it's shields crippled. At the moment, they were running interception for it. The ships got into range, and the Waratica ship's hangars opened, lauching 12 Hothgar transports. The Mecanius ship moved into drop positions, and a hailstorm of drop pods were launched. The pair of ships turned tail and ran, nothing left to do at the moment.

The Ni'Calls fleet chose that time to drop in for a cup of antimatter or two. The entire fleet, led by the flagship "Big E" ahead, came in with only a small warning. It was directed to the GPA fleet, and it said only one word in text: //DUCK//

The ship, moving at full speed, fired the EMP cannon toward all of the opposition in its path. Rather than stopping and firing as would be sane of them, the fleet continued ahead (through, presently, the Photos fleet), the Big E ramming into every ship in its path, not to mention it and the other ships firing quick, precise blasts toward every open area they could manage. Again, just in case anyone was able to listen, the message was sent again: //DUCK//

An insane tactic maybe, but shields were invented for a reason.

The Devastator shook for a second, then all power went out.
"Damn it all! Get the power back on, we're a giant bullseye with a tracking beacon out here without our shields and point-defenses!" Val'ones ordered, violently taking his anger out on the guard rail.

Perrawiih lower atmosphere
"Alrighty boys, ready weapons." Said the squad leader, Ul'nera. He heard quite a few acknowledgements. He checked their altimeter. 600 feet and closing.
"15 seconds till impact!" He roared. He counted down in his head. 5. 4. 3. 2. 1. Boom. The pod came to an abrupt stop. If it wasn't for their harnesses and other equipment, not one of them would have survived the impact. The harnesses retracted and the hatches opened. They disembarked. Ul'nera looked up. There were what appeared to be countless fireballs raining down from the sky, all of varying sizes. He looked around. They had landed in what appeared to be a rock field. They quickly set up the rocks in a sandbag-esque formation to help prevent fire from any nosy soldiers. They had to wait for the go-code before beginning the op. They were on the lower side of a hill. They all had their weapons ready and aimed, ready to put a nice-sized hole in the forehead of some unlucky military birdie.

Back in space, the coalition's fleets gladly took up the Ni'Calls' offer, dodging just in time to witness a magnificent display of stellar-naval power.

For some time, the Eight Fleet was forced to slither its way out of friendly fire, dodging attacks which were coming from all directions. The Chivi were most dissatisfied with the current predicament, being situated smack dab in the center of the large, spasmodic formation. The Luzonians, on the other hand, were more than happy to dive into more danger than they were already in, seeing the Ni'Calls' blitzkrieg as an excellent opportunity to apply tremendous pressure on the Photos instigators. The others, ill content on simply standing by, unleashed their own brands of punishment, hurling a good chunk of their own straight at the invaders.

A massive spectacle of light could be seen across nearby space as the Photos' point defense systems were continuously bombarded by the combined firepower of the PSR, NUTS and GPA fleets.

To think that it would come to this..., thought Volora, greatly disappointed by the tactlessness of the Photos, and in hindsight, the PSR itself.

"Status report!", he ordered while looking over a highly detailed holographic map of the entire battle. After a brief analysis of the overall situation, his eye was soon drawn to the Emancipator and its apparent future trajectory.

"Sir!", one of his aides announced, eliciting his attention. "Overall data shows positive results. Chivi and Luzonians have sustained minimal losses, while Choro Deidalus and Atomna report none at all. Evasive maneuvers in relation to Ni'Calls assault still underway, however, the Luzonian task group has recently detached from general formation in order to engage front line targets."

"Is that so?", the admiral asked rather half-consciously.

"Yes sir!", the officer replied.

Glossing over the map one last time, Volora turned his head towards one of his other aides before delivering another brief order. "Contact the others.", he said with a pair of slight grins.

"Let's make perfect use of the wonderful opportunity opened up by our Ni'Calls brethren..."

A short distance away a section of space seemed to shimmer and warp for a moment before fading out into darkness compleley.  Moments later, the anomaly was gone, and in it's place was a large contingent of Kratairian ships, moving quickly towards the location of conflict.

As the multitude of colossal ships came within firing range, they slowed to a halt, hailing the nearby ships across all channels.

//Attention all combatant fleets.// Came the gravelly voice of a Kratairian Captain aboard the nearby capital ship.  //This is Captain Traven of the Kratairian Republic Navy capital ship Instigator, flagship of sub-fleet R47.  We have been dispached to this location to demand an immediate cease of hostilities from all involved parties and the resuming of diplomatic procedings for the swift resolution of this conflict.  You have 15 minutes to comply before we are forced to use lethal force to ensure that this conflict is put down now before it can escalate furthur.//

"Status!" Val'ones ordered. Within a moment, the lights flickered back on and the shields kicked back in. "Thank the Creator." Val'ones breathed, answering his own order. Val'ones looked to his left and noticed a large distortion. Within the blink of an eye, the Superbattleship, the P.S. Hyvez appeared, and opened fire. The fusilade of plasma destroyed several smaller ships within a matter of seconds.
"Sir, our antimatter weapons are online!" The weapons officer told him.
"Exelent. Target the most powerful enemy ship out there." Val'ones ordered. Large glistening gold beams of antimatter shot from several turrets on each of the Photos ships, targeting the highest power ships out there. Ships in the way were decimated in single shots, and larger ones faired not much better. Overall, the Photos started taking down ships fast.

Admiral Spaulding looked over the battle. The Photos were sitting ducks with their long line of ships. Why weren't they spreading out? Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye he caught a glimpse of a small pinprick of light streaking across the battlefield (field being the best term he could find for this 3-D space battle). Maybe it was a bullet of some sort... A split second later, a nearby vessel exploded in a blinding flash. Spaulding's hearts raced, and he opened a channel with the other ships.

//Admiral Spaulding to all PSR and friendly vessels. Photos ships now have active antimatter weapons. That is all.//

He cut off the message and started giving orders.

//Code NOZ-873-F17! Engage in Attack Pattern Gamma Ramma Kablamma! Increase nuclear weapon force! Fire all laser cannons at will! Launch the missiles! Etc.//

Meanwhile, at the Nuclear Weapon Control Center of the ship, an engineer smiled. "Time to take off the kid gloves. Get those puny firecrackers out of here and fire a BFN! Then fire some more!" A nearby officer also barked orders. "Raise all radiation shielding! Give warning to allied vessels!"

The nuclear weapons were indeed powerful, but could they match the limited Photos supply of antimatter? When you consider that quantity is a quality all its own, and the PSR ships had hundreds of nukes... Still, the Perrachi forces now spread apart, giving the Photos a general impression of cowardice, instead of strategic intelligence. But reinforcements were still a long ways away.
I came, I saw, I went back to bed.

"Attention all ships, activate long-range point defence lances. Time to fry the PSR with their own nukes." Val'ones said into the intercom. This had been his coupe' de' grace all along. When the PSR launched their nukes, the long range guns would detonate them a distance around, preferable within distance of their own ships. He just waited for the vollies to start.

The Eight Fleet was already forming a massive spiraling formation around the Emancipator when the Kratarian Fleet jumped into the scene and began to hail everyone.

After a brief discussion between the coalition's different divisions, they came upon a decision, which was then relayed to the Instigator through Admiral Volora.

//Attention Kratairian Republic Navy capital ship Instigator, this is Eight Star Admiral Volora Zetariyokiya of the Orealyianis Monarchy Ship Sutari, lead vessel of Task Group Rerukurireya of the Galactic Protection Agency Eight Fleet.//

Volora spoke through one of the channels.

//We have likewise been dispatched to this location to demand a cease of fire between the Photos and PSR combatants. It is our wish to inform the KRN that the Fleet is only attacking the primary aggressors in this space, with any additional hostilities being beyond our jurisdiction. As such, any actions that would entail the engagement of formations belonging to those other than the primary aggressors will not be tolerated by our forces.//

And then there was silence.

Back on Tanariadne, the Agency's headquarters was blurring with activity. Everyone was running about, most likely doing something which was, in one way or another, related to preventing the possible all out war between the PSR and the Photos.

To think that it would come to this..., thought Hatena as she sat beside Fna-Jusi, who was likewise buried deep in thought. They were still huddled inside the central meeting chamber, which was now packed full of representatives from almost every race and department that can be found in the Agency.

Clutching the top of her head with both hands, she slid her palms down across her face in an act of supreme mental and psychological exhaustion.

But then, just before her consciousness was about to fade out in the drowning ocean of stress around her, a spark of renewed idea and determination sprang from the back of her mind. Collecting herself, she stood up and motioned to his Deputy to take care of matters for her in the mean time.

She was going to have a very serious talk with some pretty powerful people from across the galactic community.

//Your terms are acceptable.// replied Captain Traven in response to the Orealyianis' message.  //As it seems that a peacefull resolution is impossible at this point, we shall assist in disabling the aggressor's forces.//

A streak of gold shot past the Instigator moments later, glancing off a battleship a short way behind.  All across the ship emergancy airlocks sealed as a deep trough was carved through its armor.  It was significant damage, no doubt, but it would take a lot more than that to shake up a Kratairian vessel.

"All ships." the Captain spoke sternly into the communicator at his station, "The Photos fleet has initiated combat.  As per our directive, you are clear to open fire.  At this point, we are still minimizing casualties.  Aim to disable, not destroy."

As the crew around him busily moved to and fro with a level of efficency and confidence that only thousands of years of space campaigns could refine, the Captain barked one furthur order to the fleet.

"Furthermore, I want a boarding party on their capital ship.  This conflict will be easier to resolve if the one calling the shots can be taken captive.  Dagger squadrons 17 through 37 are cleared for combat."

As the Kratairian ships opened fire with a wide salvo of white-hot plasma directed at the Photos fleet, hundreds of small, triangular ships poured out from the fleet, streaming off at blinding speed towards the Photos command ship.  Intersperced with the plasma rounds fired, the ships were nigh impossible to pick out, until they too began to glow white hot, as the front blade of the ship was bathed in superheated hydrogen in preperation for penetrating the enemy hull.

"We're gonna get rammed again! Brace for impact!" Val'ones said. The antimatter guns were aimed at the incoming ship, trying desperately to destroy it. Meanwhile, in the belly of the ship, Tar'vhix was going over something. He had pulled up Val'ones recent activities on the computer, and come to find out, he had recently spent some leave time on the planet Korvhys. This planet was home to a species of invasive paracite that released a chemical called Edronomyne, which causes greatly enhanced aggression in creatures. If Val'ones had eaten food with these in them, it would account for his more aggressive state. Tar'vhix opened a channel to the Orealyanis command ship.
"I may have found an explanation to the current situation. Tell everyone else to back off, cease fire except for EMP, until I say otherwise. If the problem's what I think it is, I'll have this mess contained within the hour."

Morale was going high. The Photos were slowly withdrawing! Everyone was sure they would win this battle and even the war with the GPA and Kratairan help, when suddenly an order to cease fire was given. "What for?" was the general response. "Photese armistice proposal" was the general answer. Admiral Spaulding and the Vice and Rear Admirals opened a connection to the badly-damaged Photese flagship.

"This is Admiral Spaulding of the Perrachi Socialist Republic Stellar Navy."

Rear Admiral Chicolini spoke up. "What are the terms of your proposed ceasefire agreement?"

"More importantly, why are you asking for a ceasefire?" interjected Vice Admiral Toho. "Surely your forces aren't that destroyed yet."
I came, I saw, I went back to bed.

"Excuse me, birdbrain?" Val'ones spat. "I never requested any cease-fire!" Val'ones continued. He thought for a moment...Tar'vhix! "This must be that little traitor's doings..." Val'ones trailed off. The High Tribune himself happened to burst in at that percise moment.
"Val'ones, listen to me. I have reason to believe you picked up some Korvhysian paracites, and their Edronomyne could be clouding your judgement. Give me a blood sample, let me get this figured our!" Tar'vhix said. Before he gave Val'ones time to react, he pinned him against the wall with his shoulder paulderon and plunged a syringe into one of the syringe slots on his armour's gauntlet. The hypodermic filled with red blod, filled with little tan spots. Bingo, he had the paracites.
"Tar'vhyx to all other ships, I've confirmed; the Commander has those Korvhysian paracites I brought up earlier. Disengage, I'll handle this." He said over the intercom. "Guards, hold the good Commander down." He ordered. They complied. The High Tribune pulled another syring from his belt, filled with a white liquid. He injected it the same way as he drew the blood. Within a few minutes, Val'ones was visibly calmer.
"Ow...my head's throbbing. What happened?" Val'ones said.

After receiving the High Tribune's message, the Sutari's crew, under Volora's swift command, promptly disseminated the startling revelation to the other participants in the conflict, just in case they didn't hear it the first time around.

All across the Eight Fleet, offensive maneuvers were greatly reduced. While signs of ongoing crossfire were still clearly visible, most units merely aimed to incapacitate Photos projectiles which were already cruising towards their targets.

A certain decontamination unit stationed on Korvhys will have to perform quite some explaining after all of this..., the Admiral thought as he snapped one of his nippers with bone-cutting force, as though doing it would relieve some of his stress. He was very frustrated by the apparent lack of thoroughness and foresight by the staff on Korvhys, which eventually lead to this pitiful exercise of complete wastefulness. Whatever the final verdict, it was more or less expected that the aftermath of this mess would lead to a lot of people losing their jobs, if not outright getting executed for reckless imprudence resulting in a barely thought-through DoW.

Val'ones stood against the side railing. He started getting more pale by the second.
"Ah...people. My appologies for this mess, I wasn't in my correct mind at the mome-ah, I think I'm gonna be sick..." Val'ones leaned away from the camera and the contents of his stomach were spewed all over the floor. "Yeah...I'm gonna be sick..." Val'ones said, though he wasn't back in the camera's view. Tar'vhix leaned into view.
"The anti-cite is taking effect, and he's gonna be in the hospital for a while...so yeah...sorry about all this. We're gonna get the Commander to the hospital, we'll meet at GPA command in...say, three hours? Talk to you all then." Tar'vhix said, cutting the channel.
"Well? Set course for Katsyr Leiutien!" Tar'vhix said. Katsyr Leiutien was a medical planet, able to treat almost any conventional disease given the time and technology. The fleet turned around and jumped into warp.

I'm afraid 'sorry' is just not going to cut it., Volora replied in his mind.

And I'm very certain the others would probably think the same...

As the Eight Fleet slowly regrouped, the OMS Sutari, among other coalition flagships, began to tap in to their own privately established network. A brief videoconference was going to be held between the coalition's highest officers. As the projectors flared up and everyone was, one question raced through everyone's mind...

How could they report this to Central Command in the mildest manner possible?

Regardless of what kind of explanation they manage to conjure up, everyone knew that this was just the start of a very problematic chain of diplomatic disasters. The PSR will surely ask for compensation, what with all the casualties, wasted resources and transgression of national boundaries. Not to mention the fact that the Photos probably now has a war-debt to both the Kratairian Government and every single member of the GPA, since they effectively went to war with all of those parties.

A certain decontamination unit stationed on Korvhys will have to perform quite some explaining after all of this..., Hatena thought to herself after receiving word of what went down. As much as she wanted to get on a ship and personally deal with the Photos invasion, there was however, something far more important at hand.

"Well, here it goes...", the Directress sighed while marching to the stage and walking towards the podium. She had just sent an open invitation to all major powers in the galaxy. The issue regarding the PSR's unprovoked military operations against the Makal and the Slakos was going way out of hand. It was time to address it to a higher galactic authority.

As she looked at the crowd of galactic leaders that stood before her, she was somewhat overwhelmed by the gravity of the situation. She hold on, however, and took a deep breath before stating her opening words.

This is going to take a while...

"AHHH! My intestines feel like they're on fire!!" Val'ones screamed, doubled over and doing his best to walk to the dreadnought's medical bay.
"Yeah, yeah, that's going to happen until we get the proper medication into ya..." Tar'vhix groaned, slapping the door pannel. It slid open.
"Oooh, he looks worse than I thought!" The medical officer said, looking at the stricken commander with a mix of disbelief and pity. The pair assisted the mumbling and groaning commander into bed. Tar'vhix took one look at his old friend, and turned away with a sigh. The two had actually known each other sence, well, birth, practically. they grew up living right next to each other, neighbors. He felt bad for Val'ones; on top of the mess he had cause while pretty much temporarily insane, he was getting sicker by the minute. And the worst part? He didn't know weather or not it was the anti-cite working, the paracites going ballistic due to the introduction of the anti-cite into his system, or more likely, a mixture of both.

Aboard the ship headed for Yalkna, messages kept coming and going. Finally, an aide landed next to the President.

"President Talin, sir? The gist of the situation is that there's been a change of plans."

"Hm? What do you mean?"

"It turns out that the Photos in charge of the forces at the battle was infected with some sort of parasite that made him temporarily insane. He was cured by his second-in-command and is now barfing his guts out due to aftereffects."

Talin snickered.

"Hmff... Please continue."

"Er, right. Said second-in-command called for a ceasefire, which Admiral Spaulding has agreed to."

"Well, hooray for Admiral Spaulding! I feel there's a point you aren't getting to."

"That point would be the fact you've been called to a summit of galactic leaders on Tanariadne."

"Good. The Beyon Foreign Minister owes me 38 bucks. No, wait! That's terrible! I have to go and greet our brave troops on Yalkna!"

"With all due respect, sir, you can always go later. This is urgent."

"Oh, fine. We'll be seeking retribution by the Photos for all they've done to obstruct our liberation mission..."

Talin stood in the crowd some hours later, surrounded by security guards. He stared sternly at Director Rolu, waiting for her to speak.

Toho stared. He blinked. Then he turned to face an officer on his ship's bridge.

"Birdbrain...?
I... ah... what kind of an insult is that? It's more like a compliment! 'I hate you, you have high intelligence!' What a funny little man."
I came, I saw, I went back to bed.

Whatever ruckus remained in the crowd were ultimately dispelled as the Directress activated her mic and finally began to speak.

Traveling across this sea of stars, overlooking the worlds which bore witness to recent conflicts between our nations, the mighty Athanatsu calmly grazing the sky above us, amidst the silent graves of our many fallen brethren, it is with great hesitation that I raise my small voice to shatter the beautiful serenity created by the hands of nature. However, the task for which you have called upon me must now be performed.

Gift me, I beseech you, with your thoughts and your sympathy.

The Directress paused for a while, allowing her message to sink in.

After a brief moment of utter silence, she carried on.

Two score and several years ago our people brought forth on this galaxy a new movement, created in freedom, and specifically tasked with upholding the ideals that all sentient beings are equal.

There is no use in denying that we are now engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that movement, or any movement, so empowered and so determined, can long endure. We gather upon a great battlefield of that ongoing war. We have come to call upon everyone's verdict as to who is the rightful victor of that field, as a testament of giving meaning and rest to those who, elsewhere across this maelstrom of stars, gave their lives that that movement might have the opportunity to live. It is altogether logical and expected that we should do this.

The Directress paused again, collecting herself for what would lie ahead.

She began again, this time with a far, far sterner demeanor.

But, in a greater sense, we can not confirm, we can not prove, we can not decide the rightful bearer of this ground. The stalwart people, both living and past, who struggled for this hall of seats, have defiled it, well beyond our ability to give or to take. The world's collective memory will not write down, nor resist forgetting what we say here, but it can never ever forget what they did, out there, for us who are in here.

Rather, it is for us, the authorities, to dedicate ourselves here to the unfinished task which they who fought, to their last breaths, have thus far, in their own hearts, so nobly advanced. Rather, it is for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these honorable warriors we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave their last full strides of dedication—that we here swear truthfully that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this movement, under our blood-sworn oaths, shall have a new birth of order and freedom—and that the safeguarding of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from these worlds.

Rolu paused yet again, seemingly over with her oration.

However, not all what was expected as a resounding thump echoed across the chamber, originating from the Directress' lectern, behind of which, still stood firmly her authoritative figure.

There was a sudden change, quite unlike the one before. The Directress carried a heavier, more serious tone as he began the final portion of her short speech.

Tragically. All these serve no meaning to those who find comfort in their closed minds and deaf ears... Which is EXACTLY the current state in which we now find ourselves in.

Until we transcend this minor, yet devastating affair, make no mistake of our gradual descent into infighting and madness. Within which there will be nothing but pain, suffering and meaningless loss of life.

And there is only but a single tool in our vast arsenal with which we could honestly hope to push back this plague.

The truth.

I, Officer Hatena Rolu, Chief Representative of the United Goonalian Provinces and Current Directress of this Galactic Protection Agency, under the power vested upon me by this great institution, hereby officially request the immediate compliance of the twenty five member bodies of this organization with the following directives:

The complete and total cease of all military and paramilitary operations of all member bodies against other member bodies.

And a comprehensive investigation of all member bodies' government institutions, which shall be conducted by officers of the Galactic Protection Agency under direct authority of the Cabinet.

No stone shall be left unturned, no seat shall be left unchecked. This will be our only hope of securing, and ultimately purging, the very root of the disease which has sought so fervently to corrupt this movement from within its very core.

The time has passed for compromises, what is solely left for us now is the virtues of truthfulness and action.

I trust that everyone in this chamber knows all too well the alternative to this penultimate endeavor. And will see to it that it never be put to use...

And there was silence.

The Directress looked sternly across the vast swaths of representatives from each of the member nations. She could never dream of raising her hand against so much as a single people of such great virtue. Yet, even for but a fleeting second, it all seemed to be a very enticing alternative...

... to the realities of total war.

Talin was outraged.

"Then you are saying that supporting armed liberation struggles against oppression will be illegal? That fascist regimes can be protected by your weak-winged policies of appeasement? Your idiotic policies will not be tolerated any longer! We seek no war, except those of liberation, yet you oppose all conflict in this vastly imperfect galaxy! Good day to you, madam! You receive nothing!"

The Perrachi President and his guards furiously stormed out of the building. They knew that their majority party back at home would support them. It always did.

But would the people support a total breakaway from the GPA?

On Perrawiih, everyone was in a hurry to find out about the latest events. There was a ceasefire with the Photos! Their commander was insane! Talin was at a GPA summit! What else was going on? For one thing, Enna Miq had arrived and was negotiating with Prime Minister Khadenin in the city of Wluwidyn. Peace talks were so far successful. A ceasefire had been called with the Photos, and the PSR reinforcements were stopped and diverted to Perrachi-controlled systems. The standoff might end in all the troops coming home soon! But then came in the news of Talin's walkout at the GPA summit...

What a week!
I came, I saw, I went back to bed.
