Let us discuss Poetry!
« on: May 01, 2010, 10:17:17 pm »
First off:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bj8U7pPf-BQ" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bj8U7pPf-BQ</a>
But obscure parodies of classic rural American poets and prime time ABC programming aside,
Last month was national poetry month!

I refuse to believe we have missed out on all the fun.
That is why I propose an entire thread dedicated to our favorite poems/poets/poetry readings/etc...

My favorite poet?
Probably Taylor Mali.
I'm pretty sure he is/was an English teacher. Also, he's awesome.

But, yes, I am curious about your thoughts on poetry!
Discuss!

What meme is relevant right now? Look, just imagine I'm riffing on that. Updating signatures is exhausting.

I don't care for writing poetry, but my teachers have said I was very good at it. Imagine.  ::)
Yeah, [Kishmond] came back from Africa, but the ponies have him now.

Even though rhyming can be hard,
It's a good way of sounding smart.

Even though that was but a demi-rhyme,
I thought it up in next to no time.

Unlike this one, which took a bit longer,
But at least the practise will make me stronger.

I haven't seen anything from you,
so let's see what you can do.

Mmmm.  The Raven is mighty fine.  Used to know it off by heart, not so much now.  I know some verses but it gets fuzzy around the middle area.

Incidentaly, have a limerick.

A tutor who tooted a flute,
Tried to tutor two tooters to toot.
Said the two to their tutor is it tougher to toot
Or to tutor two tooters to toot.

I haven't seen anything from you,
so let's see what you can do.

You reap your simple rhymes
Like barley from Demeter
But quite neglect the time-
ing, rhythm, beat or meter

Bill Shakespeare favoured tum
tee tumpty tumpty tum
You can copy him
or maybe just keep schtum

But oh dull-browed philistine
literary troglodyte
You are blind and do not see
that poems don't have to rhyme
refridgerator.
Sam is basically right, he's just cranky.

Poems don't need to have a rhyme scheme.

If they don't, they have to have some kind of rhythm or they're just not poetry. :P
No way dude, you're trolling me.
