The Coup-The-CURRENT!-RP
« on: March 31, 2010, 04:11:26 pm »
King Gyvon of the Makal stood above a large city, the finest of his small empire. Going through his mind lately was the possiblity of invasion. With their empire small, and somewhat lacking as far as technlogy, they were easy targets. They had built four massive Orbital Cannons in their city, but for a stalwart attacker, those would be easy to destroy. They had recently come in contact with an empire called the Slakos, an aquatic nation. The two had formed an alliance since then, and there were several Slakos battleships in orbit as well. The Slakos had a superior military, more powerful than that of the Makal, even though the Makal empire far expanded past the numbers of the Slakos. He looked out, at a bright star.
"What horrors do you bring us?" He said to himself.

The massive semicircular room was filled with Perrachi sitting in simple yet elegant seats. At the front was a raised floor on which a podium with several microphones sat in the front, as well as two chairs. One was empty, but in the other sat Prime Minister Akdi Khadenin, solemn-faced as usual. Behind him on the wall hung the flag of the Perrachi Socialist Republic, a red banner emblazoned with a white triangle in its center. Khadenin glanced at one of the clocks decorating the red and gold walls when a cheerful-looking Perrachi walked into the room, a skip in his step. The mass of Perrachi cheered at the appearance of Dimikos Talin, President of the PSR. Khadenin leaned forward to the microphones and announced, "And now, let the First Session of the High Senate commence."

The High Senate grew quiet as President Talin stood up to speak.

"Greetings, my fellow people. A lot's been going on ever since the revolution. We've completely overhauled the entire previous system of government and created the galaxy's very first socialist state. Now there are immigrants pouring into our borders from all over, eager to live a life where they have a real say in the way things are decided. We've also helped defeat a dangerous threat to the peace of the galaxy, and peace talks are still going on with the Core Combine. But this isn't my State of the Republic address, so I'm here just to propose a couple of things. Although before I can do that, I'm afraid I must commence with some explanations.

"You see, the great United Society of Star Systems was founded on the principles of freedom. Free travel, free trade, and all that. But what about free speech? What about civil rights? What about the freedom to vote? I'm afraid that not all governments in our union share the same principles that most of us do. The Slakos Social Oligarchy and the Makal Kingdom are two of those. Slakos on their home planet are oppressed from birth, literally. Forced into classes, they are segregated into different, unequal facilities. A Slakos of a lower class could never have the chance to become someone of a great profession, while higher-class Slakos live in lavish conditions simply because of a random birth.

"Makal, on the other wing, are oppressed under the harsh rule of an absolute monarchy. For centuries, kings have crushed their subjects under their feet and abused innocent civilians simply seeking freedom of expression. A brutal police force secretly kills and tortures protesters wanting democratic reform, and little is known due to a complete lack of any political transparency within the government. Only recently has a large extent of the horror been revealed due to Makal emigrating out of the dictatorship into freer places, like the UGP or the Khurithian Federation.

"Well, my fellow citizens, I say to you that enough is enough! We threw off the corporate oppression, so why can't they? We brought democracy to all of our homeworld eleven years ago, so why can't they? The good people of Yalkna and Grevek have been exploited and murdered long enough! This is why I propose a formal Declaration of War against the Slakos Social Oligarchy and the Makal Kingdom in order to topple the oppressive regimes and replace them with governments by the people."

The hall burst into chatter.

"Makes sense to me!"

"I love my country but abhor war..."

"Let's hang the last king with the guts of the last priest!"

"We must help them in a nonviolent fashion..."

"I say yes, but no nukes!"

"Absolutely, I've done research on it..."

Eventually, Khadenin stood up, silencing the entire hall. He had the uncanny ability to make people shut up just by looking at them. The old Teroclidan spoke in a deep and wise voice.

"I assume that the High Senate is ready to vote on the matter now?"

A general murmur of Yes answered him.

"Then you shall vote."

Talin spoke in a more excited tone.

"All in favor?"

He could see a majority of High Senators touching the "voting screens" built into their seats.

"All opposed?"

Fewer did the same, but still more than a hundred. Talin and Khadenin stared at the screen behind the podium. Then it flashed the message.

IN FAVOR 1063

AGAINST 182

"The move passes, 1,063 to 182."

Many cheered, though some hung their heads in shame. Talin looked eager, but Khadenin's poker face remained as solid as a brick.

"Alright, then. The popular vote will commence next week, and if it passes I will be working on military strategies. So, what are other proposals for new federal laws that have made it through workers' councils and senates?..."
I came, I saw, I went back to bed.

Gyvon looked out across the city again, remembering that time, so many years ago, that that race...what were they? Snele? No...That wasn't it. He struggled to recall the name. He was to give a speech today, on the Defense Project. Many of his officials, worried of invasion, urged the king to sponsor a program to expand the Makal's incredibly pathetic military. It still needed to have some backing before it would get too far. The timed door opened, and he slithered out onto the semicircle balcony.
"Fine citizens of the city of Toelek, we have to face an issue. For years, our expansive empire has sat, in exile, expanding. However, our lust for land has made us blind to our defense. We have critical issues in our defense. Our weapons are pathetic in compairison to some of the other races locked in war, in this galaxy. People of Toelek, as the capital of our empire, it is our job-OUR! Not mine, not yours, no! The responsibility lies with us all. We expanded as a whole. We have stood, together, united, against whatever issue may show it's ugly maw, be it economic downturn, or pirate raids. And now...Now it is time for us to bolster ourselves against what horrors may turn against us in this unstable, war-enveloped galaxy which houses us. Our allies, the Slakos, have agreed to help us in this endevour. So, people of Toelek, stand with me, stand with me as we secure our claim forever!" He spoke. The whole assembly burst into cries of joy and support. He awarded himself a content grin. In all his years, he still had it.

The news had come in from across the Republic. The popular vote was in favor of war. War! The military rushed to mobilize, and the Executive Branch was meeting with high-ranking military officers to discuss strategies in the coming conflict. After a mere two weeks, they were ready. The Declarations of War were written up and the documents containing stirring proclamations of liberty and equality were sent straight to the capital planets of both unfortunate governments.

Battlecruisers, starfighters and everything in between were sailing straight for the designated target points, namely the capital planets of both the Slakos and Makal. The millions upon millions of loyal soldiers were reminded daily of the moral implications of this war and its difference from previous imperialist wars. "This is a war of liberation, not of enslavement!" they were told.

The seemingly unstoppable armada of millions was drawing closer and closer to the capital planets, and on their surfaces the people were in a mixture of confusion and hidden celebration...

Kingdom of Makal,

I reprisent the services of the Holy and Rightful Union of Austians. It has come to our attention that the old order of your Kingdom has come under threat from socialist forces. I assure you, my people have been long ejected from power. My High Priest was court martialed and shot, all in the name of "Democracy". We are sympathetic with your cause and your current situation. Like our "Unionist" counterparts, our military is among the finest and most disciplined in the known Galaxy. We have generations of military prowess and experiance, as well as the most advanced battlesuit technology known; we are a force to be reckoned with, and you would do well to have us on your side.
We wouldl ike to offer our services to your cause, to preserve your homeland and the old way. It is too late for my race, but perhaps not for yours. You would have a fleet of Austian Battlecruisers and at least one Billion marines, all hardened by exile and all filled with religious zeal and utter dedication.
So what say you, Makal? We await your answer, as we yearn to put our skills to good use.

As the Perrachi forces hurtled toward their targets, another ship was making its way toward the Slakos homeworld. It was a large AA-20 class transport ship carrying supplies on its normal run. The run became much less than normal, however, when the transport encountered the Perrachi detachment heading for the Slakos world. Curious about the incident, the captain attempted to contact the Perrachi transit control, but received no response. Still curious, and by now mildly worried, the Captain contacted Transport Command on Calla, asking about the taskforce. The command said they didn't know, and now that they were interested, they contacted Talsenreave University in hopes of securing information. Again, no one knew of the incident, and the university faculty became quite alarmed by this. Hurriedly, they informed the headmaster Headmaster. he, then, contacted the Perrachi Senate.

//Hello, this is Key'kali Veldas Talsenreave, Headmaster of Talsenreave University at Calla. It has come to my attention several hours ago that a military detachment of the Perrachi Stellar Navy was seen heading towards Yalkna. The planet is a United Society of Star Systems member world as well as a stop on the Transport Command primary circuit, so I am doubly concerned as to the occasion of the fleet heading there. That's all I was wishing to know. Thank you.//

//Oh, we just declared war on the Slakos and Makal. It's okay, we did it to liberate the people from the regimes of inequality. There's no imperialism here!//

Jaor Nen, a High Senator, looked away from the Ni'Calls on the phone to another passing High Senator. "Er, I just thought of something. Our military officially belongs to the USSS, which is why we use the designation United Society Ship, or USS." "That's right. So?" "Well, does this mean that technically the whole USSS has declared war on the Slakos and Makal?" "I don't think so."

The Headmaster's eye seemed to go out of focus for a second, and he said in a faraway tone, //No, not at all. Thak you again, and goodbye.// He terminated the transmission, and quickly glided over to the comm in his office. //GET THE OTHER HEADMASTERS ON THIS LINE RIGHT NOW. I WANT EVERY SHIP IN THE FREEDOM FLEET, INCLUDING THE EMANCIPATOR, AT THE MAKAL HOMEWORLD IMMEDIATELY!// "Those corrupt Perrachi had this coming at them for years now. What do they think they're doing with this pittiful attempt at power projection?  As an afterthought, he reopened the comm and added, //I want regular updated on the possition of the fleet, and you'd better not give me many before they reach the Makal homeworld.// Quickly, the many Headmasters of the Universities around the ball of waterthat was Calla, cam on the line. They all agreed: An action such as this would almost certainly cause destabilization of at least the USSS if it were to be allowed, and all agreed that it had to be stopped. As the Perrachi fleets sped toward the Makal and Slakos homeworld, the Freedom Fleet of Calla was rushing on an intercept course that would put them almost right over the Makal world...

Gyvon was sent the message to his datapad. He pulled it off it's hook, reading the message. He hit respond, and said, into the screen;
"We greatly appreciate the offer, and gratefully accept it. We need all the help we can get."
He looked up at that bright star yet again. He was riding on a gambit of great risk. There were several races mentioned in a log left by the Sneal visitors so long ago. They had sent out several S.O.Ses, and were hoping for a quick rienforcement. Only time would tell, though.

The news came in to President Talin's office quickly.

"What? A fleet of Ni'Calls ships heading towards Grevek? But they're our allies! Didn't any of their channels broadcast the whole congressional session? Hasn't anybody there heard about the Revolution? This is madness!"

The President's expression turned furious. He broadcast a stern message to the top military commanders:

"Speaking as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the Perrachi Socialist Republic, I order all forces to halt at any sign of armed Ni'Calls ships. Their aim is to stop the liberation of the Slakos and Makal people, so negotiate with them to either get out of or way or join us. If they are ignorant enough to refuse after all tries at peace, attack until their surrender. Keep in mind that the last thing we want is civil war, and don't forget to tell them that."

Onboard the P.S. Devastator, a green light winked on Val'ones' command console. He hit the button next to it. A picture of a Makal came up on the screen. His face instantly showed surprise.
"Hello, General Ki'una. We need assistance from the Photos, as a race known as the Perrachi is coming to overthrow our government. Please come to these coordinates." The coordinates came up on the screen. A Photos looked at him with a wierd look.
"The Makal have been in exile for a long time, they probably still think the current leader is Ki'una. Alright, you heard what the situation is, set course for said course, activate the warp drive as soon as possible." He ordered. When the fleet around the ship were all finally headed the right direction, they jumped to warp. When they came out, they saw the massive green planet, with what forces the Makal could muster swarmed around it. It was sizable, though still insignificant. The Photos opened a channel.
"Hello, Makal Empire. We are the Photos, we recieved you S.O.S., we're here to help."

Reports were coming in from all the major news stations. The PSR's allies were aiding the very species it declared war on! How could this be? The President, Prime Minister, and Council of Advisers (as well as the diplomatic representation to the USSS) opened a channel with the USSS, intending to clear up confusion. A three-dimensional holograph of the Perrachi Emperor-turned-Chancellor appeared.

"Chancellor Tuolfs, it's a pleasure to see you."

"Skip the buttering up, please. I'm not going to be biased, Talin."

"Er... Very well. Of course you've heard of our recent declaration of war upon the Slakos and Makal governments."

"Of course."

"It seems that many of our allies within the USSS have rushed to defend the Makal Kingdom at the absolute monarch's request. Why do they side with the totalitarian regime rather than us, the liberators and crushers of oppression?"

"I won't take sides, but I will enforce diplomacy." Tuolfs pressed a button on his hoverchair. It was apparent that his physical ailments remained. "Get me diplomatic representation to us from the Ni'Calls and the Photos. They and the PSR need to have a chat."

The Freedom Fleet dropped out of warp as the Perrachi forces neared the Makal's home system, closer than anticipated. It came in at at angle to the Perrachi fleet such that every ship was set to broadside each other, not necessarily the best thing in the world. The Emancipator, in particular, was forming a rather dangerous roadblock for the oncoming forces. The captain of the Emancipator Opened a broad wavelength channel to all of the oncoming forces. It read: //STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!! By orders of the Headmasters of the Ni'Calls Technology Union, I have been ordered to halt the advance of ALL MILITARY FORCES ON APPROACH TO GREVEK! ANY FORCE WITH THE INTENTION OF HOSTILE ACTION UPON THE MAKAL, SLAKOS, PERRACHI, OR OTHERWISE, WILL CEASE IMMEDIATELY! I REPEAT, HALT ALL MILITARY ACTIVITY. WE HAVE THE POWER TO DISABLE YOUR FORCES IN ONE SHOT, BUT WE WILL NOT IF YOU COME IN WITH A MIND OPEN TO NEGOTIATION!// The Emancipator slowly spun about in an attemt to got its EMP cannon within a proper firing arc of the Perrachi fleet, but held its position and kept shields lowered. They were to avoid hostile action if possible.

Photos forces, there before even the Ni'calls due to their somewhat convienient proximity, responded.
"Hey, don't threaten us, we're here to help the Makal. And Slakos, for that matter. We don't intend to shoot unless the Perrachi do." Val'ones said to the captain of the Emancipator, through the channel.

//Good, we have some who will comply to our will to talk out our differences, rather than talk with guns. Now, if we can organize a diplomatic solution to all this, everyone can co home happily enough.//

Back on Calla, the comm network expanded to accommodate Tuolfs' assembly of representatives, though only five or so Headmasters came up to the "Front" of the group, these being the most important of the large group.

The admirals contacted each other to see what to do. (This being the PSR, workers' councils are more popular than single leaders.) "Remember what the President said! We gotta negotiate!" "Nah, I just got word they've all opened up a channel with Chancellor Tuolfs. They're talking diplomacy." "Let's just tell the Ni'Calls and Photos that we're waiting for the big guys to make a decision." "The last thing we want is war!"

Admiral Zepokun was selected to talk to the other fleets. They were contacted, and she began in a smooth, accented voice.

"My fellow USSS members, the last thing we want is to fight each other. I'm sure there are some misunderstandings here. We have been given orders to emancipate" -she glanced at the massive ship- "the Slakos and Makal people from the authoritarian regimes of their governments. Our nation feels an obligation to bring freedom and power by the people to them instead of letting oppression of civil liberties continue. As I speak, our respective leaders are currently talking with Chancellor Tuolfs over this matter, who has stated that he will give no bias toward any group. So let's just stay until they reach an agreement."

//Go home? Excuse me, but you must be delusional. Have you ever visited Grevek or Yalkna? I've seen citizens murdered by police in the streets just for carrying pro-democracy protest signs. We aren't being imperialist, we're coming as liberators. Our mission is to end prejudice and bring freedom. Who are any of you to try and stop us from taking the dictators prisoner and giving power to the people? That's like defending a group of damn fascists! In fact, that's exactly what you're doing!//

Tuolfs spoke. //Dimikos, calm down. I'm sure that the USSS Charter could be perhaps revised to include democratic requirements, but let's hear the Headmaster for now.//

//Thank you. While this may seem a bone... er... airhead... er, well, you get what I mean, move, we have reason for out action. While we have no objection whatsoever to the idea op freedom of the people, I must say that we feel that you may be taking the situation far more extremely thank might be needed. We simply sent a military force just in case a talk couldn't be worked out, as well as the break up and quarrels that may have arisen from this clash of opinions.

Anyway, what we think is going on is a slight jumping of conclusions. The Perrachi Socialist Republic has sent a military force to both Grevek and Yalkna in a coup movement. Again, I have no objections on the intentions of the matter, but it was the execution that caught be by surprise. Two fleets of battle cruisers sent to take on two civilizations that are fledgling, unprepared, and weren't contacted before the fleets were mobilized. The whole situation could have been resolved with simple conferences for reform!

In short, all I ask is for this whole mess to be rethought, not stopped. And force will only make things worse. Could you imagine the uproar if the PSR were to crack down on these two peoples who are virtually defenseless compared to the military of the PSR? Why, it could destabilize the government of the whole USSS, if not the entire Galaxy! As long as diplomats will be sent, and not bombs, We will withdraw the guard fleet, as well as assist in the talks.//

//There has obviously been some factual errors on your part. For one thing, the Declarations of War were sent in advance of the attack. The cruel dictators (whose unbelievably murderous actions I do not exaggerate) and their military lackeys are the only targets of this attack. Troops will only be sent to take over government buildings using as little force as possible. We are a government of the people and intend to establish the same.//

Tuolfs looked thoughtful. //I think that both of you did not fully understand each others' actions. If you can simply reach an agreement, that will do. Remember that USSS law states that a member attacking a fellow member is only a serious violation if all-out conventional warfare occurs. Now, what does the Photos delegate have to say?//

//Excuse me? I don't buy this. How have you seen citizens murdered in the streets, when both empires have been in self-imposed exile for close to 20 years? Whatever happened before the exile is not up to date news, and reacting on news almost 20 years old is a little foolhardy, no offense intended. I want to speak to Tuolfs. //Look, none of us care what intention this is in, what is going on just isn't going to fly. If this goes on, it isn't going to fall on deaf ears. It'll devolve into a galactic war! And with the situation unstable as it is, we not a single race in this galaxy needs a span-galactic war right now. Call off this chrade, please! Think about the concequences, though you may not see them now! This situation could end up horribly. I don't know about the Ni'calls, but if you want to get to the Makal, you'll have to blast your way through us first...// Val'ones said, cutting the channel.
"So?" Said the fire control officer, his chair rotated to the walkway, and his legs propped up in a relaxed manner. Val'ones removed his helmet.
"I need some fresh air." He said, dispite the fact that the helmet gave him plenty of air. He rubbed his bald head tenderly. "None of us need this crap. This is an absolute waste of time. Is the PSR absolutly braindead? They can't do this kind of thing and not expect to have opposition." He continued.
"Are we really going to fire on the PSR ships?" The fire control officer asked.
"If they're stupid enough to try to fight their way through us. We outnumber them two to one. Of course, they could always call in rienforcements...," He turned to the sensor operator. "Keep a close eye for jump-ins. I'm going to go get some shuteye, if so much as a light turns on in one of those PSR cruisers, call me." Val'ones said, walking for the elevator.

//We will fire on the Photos first if they attack first, the Perrachi if they attack first, and vice versa. We are defending peace and thought, not helping spread violence on either side. "They are most unwise to cross us. What they are doing is defending a fascist dictatorship, a totally unacceptable action. We merely wish to remove the corrupt leadership using force if necessary and then set up a government by the people. It all is very logical, would you not agree? We aren't exactly treating them like the Core Combine. These are sapient beings with emotions, and their abuse has gone on for too long, I'd say. That Val'ones should read about the Perrachi World War sometime. All I ask him is this: Can you judge the actions of others, but not your own? Is it right to defend a murderous institution?"

The old Perrachi's eyes seemed to be ablaze with the authority of religious leaders. His tone was quiet, but with a judgmental fury in it. He then turned away from the "camera".

"Get my recording over to those Photos, Admiral. They need to remember their moral values and the act of negotiation. It doesn't matter if they cut the transmission; our systems are superior to theirs."

Just as Val'ones was about to enter the elevator, the recording popped up. He heard this, and though he said nothing, the rest of the bridge crew saw he was steadily getting pissed.
"Start a recording, address it to the source of this previous recording. NOW!" He barked.
//Look. My patience is steadily drawing to a thin strand. Defending a "fascist dictatorship" is perfectly acceptable by our standards. In fact, by our standards, you are performing an unprovoked military action, an invasion, which WE find a totally unacceptable action. To be quite frank, I really don't give a damn about your "Perrachi World War"! If this is their internal policy, they have functioned under it sucessfully for a number of years, and in all honesty, you are way overstepping your bounds with this, this is not your place to render judgement as such. Especially when you know but one side of the story. I repeat. WE. WILL. STAY. HERE. UNTIL. YOU. LEAVE. Am I making myself clear enough? This isn't gonna happen unless you get some direct intervention. And I assure you, call in all the rienforcements you want, the minute one of you starts shooting, WE. WILL. BLOW. YOU. AWAY. Photos High Commander Val'ones Dalburen, out. And by the way, let's leave it that way, folks.// Val'ones said, both angry and sarcastic.

The Prime Minister was outraged as he hadn't been in years, but his face barely showed it.

"Very well, then. I didn't want it to have to come to this, but if you really are so brash as to hold your space, so be it. Your power has corrupted, it seems, and we have no choice but to remove it from you and give it to the people. I am frequently amazed at how unfeeling and heartless you capitalist murderers become, you know. As Commander of the Red Starfleet, I have no choice but to declare revolution upon your ships. I hope the next wave of navy officers think twice before enlisting in your fleet. May you rot for all eternity in whatever horrible afterlife your religion holds."

The transmission was cut, and Khadenin quickly signaled the Admirals.

"As you have been monitoring our conversation, you know what you are doing. Fire the nuclear weapons when ready. Show no mercy to the Photos."

They obeyed without question. As buttons were pressed, switched were pulled and orders were shouted, the massive cannons upon the PSR Battlecruisers swiveled around to face the largest Photos ships. Within a mere 6.7 seconds the bombs would be launched at unbelievable speed(1% the speed of light!) and explode in a brilliant cloud stretching for miles around. From their distance the ships looked just like small characters in a video game. No screams would be heard, no limbs would be torn. Some officers had their second thoughts, but the operation proceeded smoothly and quickly.

The Photos now had only 6.7 seconds to react to Khadenin's ominous message.

"MY... GOD!" The Captain Kera Vellak of the Emancipator exclaimed. He feared it would come to this. Thank the fates that his ship features non-violent weapons.

"FIRE THE CANNON! AS IT IS, IT'S SET! JUST FIRE NOW!!" He shouted. He really only needed to whisper the command, even, to get it throughout the massive ship, but his shouting of commands grew out of habit, and not to mention the urgency of the situation. It took less than a second for the crewmen involved in the weapons to press alll the appropriate buttons, and even less time for the EMP cannon situated on the nose of the great ship to let off a wave of energy that would disable the Perrachi ships.

In theory.

//Photos Commander.// Vellak began much more smoothly.//What you have just witnessed is an extraordinary act of mercy on our part. However, our fire first on the Perachi does not mean you are safe from fire as well. Make a single false move, and your fleet will end up like this as well.//

Vellak issued a final order to the weapons crew, "Maneuver us into position to guard the Photos fleet. And defensive weaponry in case the Perrachi try to sneak up on us."

Val'ones looked around. Situation just spiraled out of control. Something fired. He leaned against the railing, getting his bearings for a moment. Then the Ni'call message popped up on screen. He listened, and sent a text-only response.
//I understand. I have no intention of firing back. But the PSR just declaired war on us, the moment they fire a shot, we'll be returning fire.//
"All units, set the point defense guns to anti-munitions, divert 50% auxillary power to shields. And open a channel with the Makal planet." Val'ones ordered, and the crew obeyed. Within seconds, the leader of the Makal was on screen.
"What, we're a little bu-oh! It's you, Photos. What can I do for you?" The Makal king asked.
"The Perrachi are getting aggressive, we need to get core government officials off the planet. We're sending shuttles to evacuate you to the Devastator." Val'ones said.
"Alright, I'll evacuate the government section and as many civilians as I can, to the main palace plaza, that sould be an easy place to land."
"The shuttles are on route. I'll order the shuttles to make rounds, get as many civilians as we can. I'll drop some pods, get some troops to keep order." Val'ones cut the channel and leaned back, he felt pretty good about the situation.

"What happened, Admirals?"

Khadenin had an angry but withheld tone.

"Er, the Emancipator fired an EMP wave and we are momentarily stunned."

Another Admiral chimed in. "And it looks like the Photos are getting ready to transport the fascist Makal rulers offworld."

"Then get auxiliary power to the cannons and fire again!" The Admirals scrambled to give orders as Khadenin continued. "I know that neither their hyperdrives nor EMP cannons can recharge that quickly! Get moving!"

In only ten seconds the cannons were ready. As the opposing fleet gave orders and contacted each other, sadly none of them knew or remembered the specific anatomy of a Perrachi starship, as PSR officers were required to.

On a Ni'Calls ship, a lone figure witnessed the barrels of the guns pointing directly at him. For a split second, a flash, and then...

Blinding white light.

Many Perrachi serving on board had a foreboding feeling that somewhere, something had gone terribly wrong.

((Remember that the nukes the PSR is using are several hundred times more powerful than the most destructive human nuke ever produced, and if you blow up three of them in one relatively small space...))

"What the heck just happened?!?" Val'ones said, picking himself up off the floor. Even at their distance, the shockwave was strong enough to shake the ship to it's foundations.
"Ah, the PSR ship's auxillary guns fired. They targeted the Emancipator." The sensor operator said.
"WHAT!?!" Val'ones screamed, opening a channel to the whole task force.
"This is Commander Val'ones! The Perrachi opened fire on the Ni'calls after they fired a non-lethal weapon! All ships, combat formations! Move into position and open fire on the PSR fleet! They just signed a declaration of war!" He said. He opened a channel to the GPA headquarters, and fed the video feed to the Orealyanis subsector. Photos ships opened fire full power, antimatter weapons and all. The PSR had just pissed off the hornets' nest. The Devastator dispatched rescue shuttles to the Emancipator.

"ALL NON-CONTROL HANDS, RETREAT TO SECURE AREAS." Captain Vellak shouted. "ALL CONTROL HANDS, DIVERT ENERGY TO THE EMP CANNON. DROP THE SHIELDS, MAINTAIN MAGNETIC DEFLECTOR." Several Ni'Calls situated around the huge open bridge exclaimed into their microphones. "Captain! Drop shields? THEY'RE FIRING NUCLEAR WARHEADS AT US!"

The captain anticipated that response. "We still have point defense weapons! If we can detonate the bombs or redirect them, we don't need powerful shields. The Magnetic Delfector will do."

//Attention fleet, do not attack. Begin evasive maneuvers. Only fire upon the warheads.//

All around, the Ni'Calls ships began weaving about wildly, and the glimmer of the shields around Emancipator dropped.

"Captain, multiple Photos ships descending onto the planet!" a commanding officer said. He selected several icons on his console display, and the center battle board bliked an icon over several shuttles on the simulation. "They must be evacuating. Send a message to the Perrachi. Record now."

//Attention Perrachi forces. Several Photos Evac shuttles have been sent down to the surface. We gather that they are evacuation shuttles. Please, do not fire on the shuttles, we will allow you to begin your governmental trial period. We will take care of the Photos. Please cease your fire on us, we are not a 'true' enemy, and are currently assisting you. Please allow the Photos to leave the system, this battle is over, but I fear the war has only just begun.//

"Maneuver into position to the Photos ships" said Vellak reluctantly. "Begin transmission now."

//Attention Photos forces. You've presumably just evacuated commanding members of the Makal government. You've essentially, in theory, stopped the fighting in this arena. Please continue it elsewhere. We will escort you out of the system, whereupon you can continue bombing each other in another system. Perhaps you will consider settling this on the diplomatic battlefield?//

((Ok, this has gone on far enough. UFO, you’re way out of line, for someone who apparently hates technobabble and scientific inaccuracy so much you sure seem quick to use it when it's on your side. The ships are in space there is a nearly unlimited area of movement for them to battle in, no "cluster shots" work here. Secondly, these ships are made out of stuff necessary to traverse hyperspace, so I'm sure they can handle second-hand damage from a nuke. Fourth, going all HAHA SUPERNUKES! Is a major jerk move, if you really cared about story, you'd allow the result you want to plausibly happen, instead of shoehorning them in. You just need to stop and accept that you can’t control everything so get of your high horse and play nice.))

@UFO King ((I'm not trying to drag this out, I'm trying to be realistic. And yes, while it would be dramatic, I don't exactly want my race's main military leader to die so early, after I lost the first one I came up with! Excuse me. If you have a large explosion, it would give a concussive wave, even through space, would it not? And if that smacked into a wide, Dreadnought sized ship, it would be shaken up, would it not? And how can you compare real life events to the event transpiring now, when the technology of what's happening NOW is centuries beyond what there was back then! If 9/11 happened with 2 centuries ahead wort of advanced technology, would the towers have fallen? Probably not! If Pearl Harbor had accoured when there were nearly instantly-scrambling fighters, and automated plasma-firing anti-air guns, would it have gone so bad? I doubt it! They "can't happen here", as you put it, because what you're looking for wouldn't happen so easily with 2-3 centuries worth of advanced technology. And granted, those nukes are powerful, but I feel that AUXILLARY WEAPONS taking out a DREADNOUGHT, a very large ship, mind you, in a single volley is either godmodding, or damn close to it.
I mean, in RP terms, not even the antimatter weaponry mounted by the Photos recently has that kind of stopping power. Please, you're pushing it. I think you should change it, make it a litttle more fair. Besides, how could they aim that fast just getting hit by a massive EMP. And come to think of it, how did you get power to your Auxillary Weapons when you just got hit with an EMP burst that took out god knows how many Core Combine ships? I request you change it.))
//Are you kidding me?!? THEY JUST LAUNCHED NUKES! NO WA-//
Val'ones was cut off.
"Sir, we can't fight. That concussive blast fried out targeting systems. Our weapons can't aim."
//Fine. We'll leave.// Val'ons finished. He ordered all ships to jump out to the homeworld for repairs.

"Fire when ready, Admirals. Avoid Ni'Calls ships, and destroy every single Photos shuttle. With luck, you'll catch them while they have one of the dictator's lackeys inside. In the meantime, make no effort to stop your advance towards Grevek until you reach the Imperial Palace."

The ships sped around the blast and went towards the planet, while the smaller, faster ones zoomed off to the Photos shuttles in unison, their automated minds having one objective: Destroy.

((You're confusing the Dakara with the Emancipator. The Kinetic Disruptor weapon was used to take out a majority of the CC fleet it came up against, but that thing can take the energy out of an object to a point that it disintegrates. The Emancipator uses a directed EMP cannon, which just gives electric machines headaches. And plus, notice how I added "in theory" to the end of that bit, I anticipated it might not work, and gave UFO a chance to pick the realistic way instead of ME shoehorning in the idea that nothing could escape the cannon. Oh, and plus, your rebuttal to the Pearl harbor etc. comment could be challenged by this: If they had the technology to fight the attacks, they would also have the ability to fight that protection just as effectively. Think of that saying "keeping up with the Johnsons" or what ever.))

The robotic fighters sped towards the slow shuttles, but soon picked up the signal of several Photos fighters advancing. The best strategy for defeating such pilots raced through their quantum computer brains, and some divisions broke off. Soon a magnificent battle was underway, with no side having the clear upper hand. However, the distraction of it all was sufficient to keep the Photos off the remaining fighters' tails as they gained on the shuttles. Lasers were aimed, missiles were readied, and they fired.

The first shuttle exploded, molten slag flying everywhere. Crimson beams missed the next, but they soon wouldn't.

"Graah! Set the Point Defense network to fighters, they are active targeting, not linked to a computer." The crew oblighed. They got a lock with the Plasma Lances.
"On my mark......Lance 1, Lance 2, Fire!" Two beams shot away from the damaged ship. They each penetrated their first targer, and hit a second behind. There were four down. Countless more to go.

"Very well admiral." Captain Vellak said. "Withdraw the fleet, take us out of here." He said to the crew around him. Presently, a majority of the fleet began filing back into the nooks and crannies of the huge command ship, readying themselves for the jump to warp speed.

The fleet left without a word to the other combatants.

Fighters whizzed in every direction, firing lasers in fractions of a second and hitting their exact targets. The battle slowly turned in the PSR's direction, but the Photos fighters had heavier weapons and were tougher. Even so, they couldn't stop the Perrachi armada's mighty advance and the remaining fighters' continuing destruction of the shuttles. Now only a handful remained.

"Admiral, we've got Austian forces coming out of hyperspace near our Mid Down South, 75 degrees!"

"You're right, and it looks like the religious kind... Just kill them, we've got the firepower. Start with lasers on full power. If that doesn't work, do a point eruption. If it comes down to that not being good enough, add some missiles to the mix. Those gravity warp missiles we obtained from the Core Combine should do the trick."

"Aye, sir!"

(Author's note: The Perrachi here are using many military slang terms and things of that nature. The "Mid Down South" thing is a system Perrachi use similar to the "12 o'clock, check your six" thing humans use in flight. A point eruption is when a huge number of lasers converge upon a single target at once, annihilating it. They're usually only attempted when a single ship has enough lasers, as coordinating several would be more difficult.)

Just as the Battlecruisers turned left (a deliberate action), the hundreds of high-intensity lasers located on their sides opened fire. Many Austian ships were fried, but there were a great deal many more. As searing white streams of scarlet-veiled light and heat appeared, the Austians were quick to retaliate. Khadenin contacted the Admirals.

"Yes, Commander?"

"Those Astian ships seem to be tougher than you anticipated. I suppose Auskians designed their ships to be as maneuverable as that, so try missiles as well. It will make dodging your lasers much harder. Remember to not stop until your mission of liberation is complete. Oh, and be on the lookout for any sign of the EMP cannon or any similar Photos weapon."

"Aye, Commander."

"It shall be done, Commander."

"Orders have been transmitted."

By now the PSR fighters definitely had the upper hand(or wing), but the Photos were showing no sign of retreat. Still, could they hope to match tireless machines with minds incalculably stronger than their own?

Only three shuttles remained, but they were entering Grevek's atmosphere by now. As orange flames began to cloak all of the figures, several red streaks of light converged on a shuttle and it exploded brilliantly in a shower of white-hot sparks. The entrance to the atmosphere made the fighters' calculations slightly more difficult, but it seemed inevitable that they would destroy every last shuttle. Even so, all the vessels were picking up speed and would arrive near the surface in ten to twenty minutes if landing precautions were not taken.

Orders were suddenly tachyoned to their quantum brains.

//When every shuttle is destroyed, continue entrance into the atmosphere and destroy all designated targets.//

The designated targets were government buildings, including the King's palace.
I came, I saw, I went back to bed.

"How many shuttles are left?" Val'ones asked the sensor operator.
"One-zero. All Makal government have been killed-when the shuttles went down." The operator said with a depressed tone.
"Damnit!" Val'ones yelled, slamming his hand down on the pannel. "Warp drives are charged, let's get the heck outta this Creator-forsaken place!" He ordered. The Photos ships jumped to warp, and emerged around their homeworld. Val'ones went to the hangar, and boarded one of the remaining shuttles, and went to the High Command building. He gave his authorization code to the guards that stopped him at the entrance to the High Council Chambers. He stepped in, and the five old Photos sat on their "thrones", waiting for him to say something.
"My councilmembers." He said, with a courteous bow. "We have encountered a horrid situation. The Perrachi Socialist Republic has made violent acts towards a peaceful empire, unprevoked. Furthermore, they attacked our fleet and did some serious damage, as well as shot down shuttles that were escorting the Makal government to the Devastator, which is in an orbital drydock for repairs. My councilmembers, this action cannot...go...unpunished! I request the authorization to initiate a full-scale Force of Arms operation against the Perrachi homeworld, Perrawiih, in retaliation." When he said this, all the councilmembers gasped. A full-scale Force of Arms operation? That had only been executed once...and the results were horrifying for the recipiant empire. However, this was not a gasp of horror.
"Given the..ah.. gravity of the circumstances, I grant authorization. Any apposed?" Said the lead councilman. No one shook their head.
"Thank you, High Ones!" Val'ones said, bowing again. "We shall begin as soon as the Devastator's damage is repaired."
