After People - A game of speculative evolution - Turn 2
« on: February 13, 2010, 11:49:58 am »
This is a game of evolution if people suddenly disappeared off the face of the earth. There are 2 things you can design, Habitats and Organisms. Until we have a large number of habitats designed each organism will have an approximate area written, i.e. Southwestern North America, and the climate/biome in the area, i.e. tropical desert. All organisms must be evolved off of one of the discovered species on Earth.

Habitat Template:

<NAME>

Creator: (Obvious)
Location: (The basic area it encompasses)
Temperature: (Obvious)
Rainfall: (In Centimeters)
Seasons: (Number of seasons and what they are, i.e. 2 seasons, Dry and Wet)

Organism Template:

<NAME> (<Genus Species>)

Creator: (Obvious)
Habitat: (If there is a habitat made use that. If not follow instructions at top of post.)
Diet: (Obvious, If plant remove this part)
Size: (In Centimeters)

<DESCRIPTION> (Must include whether it is endothermic or exothermic, what type of animal it is [If plant or fungi put this], and a physical description of it, along with any adaptations it has developed.)

I have the right to ignore any species. After 3 weeks I will post an update. Only the species in the update are accepted and you may only evolve from the species that are accepted or already exist.
And that is essentially it.

Habitat Template:

Dry Sands

Creator: rysworld
Location: Inland Sahara Desert
Temperature: Mean temperature over 30 C (86 F), Summer highs of over 50 C (122 F), Winter lows of below zero.
Rainfall: Less than 1.5 cm a year
Seasons: 2 Seasons, Hot and Cold.

Organism Template:

Sack cat (Felis Unda Habitum)

Creator: rysworld
Habitat: Inland Sahara Desert
Diet: Frogs, toads, most Saharan small birds, snakes.
Size: About

Endothermic, evolved from the Sand Cat (Felis Margarita Meinertzhageni). Evolved small (2 cm in diameter) sacks on either side of it's neck, to hold water. Has also gained a pack mind. Some of the larger packs (10-15 members) are big enough to kill a baby camel.

A few things.
It would be (Felis unda habitum). Creator name should be capitalized. It should be (Felis margarita meinertzhageni) and sand cat. And the size should be a number only.

There. Better?

Good. Now I just need more people to participate. Oh and you can make more than one species/habitat.

How long is it between the updates? AKA how much can we evolve a species each turn?

As many as you see fit. But please note that it will take longer for me to make an update of 500 species and habitats. Please keep it reasonable. I will update once every 3 weeks.

I didn't mean how many, I meant how much on each. Can a dog grow skin between his legs that work good enough to fly in one turn or can he evolve protowings that only barely help when gliding?

Dead New York

Creator: Bagder Man 22
Location: New York City
Temperature: 0.5o C to 24o C
Rainfall: 10 cm
Seasons: 2 seasons, Warm and Cold
EDIT:
I didn't mean how many, I meant how much on each. Can a dog grow skin between his legs that work good enough to fly in one turn or can he evolve protowings that only barely help when gliding?
It would take at least 4 turns for a dog to gain gliding features and another 2 for short flight. For bird like flight it would take 10 turns app.

I don't mean to butt in, but why? I think it'd help if you gave some more general rules on how much you can evolve your creature each turn, instead of explaining it on a per-case basis.

A better way to put it would be showing a time-frame right? Well each turn is approximately 4.5k years. From there use common sense.

That seems to be a very fast mutation rate, but whatever.

Ruined Los Angeles
Creator: GroxGlitch
Location:L.A. and outlying counties
Temperature: between 90-110 degrees Fahrenheit.
Rainfall: 8 inches/year
Seasons: 3, hot/warm/cold

Tripod Lizard (???)
Creator: GroxGlitch
Habitat: Ruined L.A.
Diet: Omnivorous, pretty much everything organic.
Size: generally 6' 5"

A heavily mutated reptile that is, due to mutation, endothermic, and has three legs (the two back legs, and
the tail evolved into a leg.) and has a scrunched body. They are tall, but not large. Their two front limbs evolved into slim pincer-like claws, and they are able to fire hard mineral darts using a mass of muscles, almost three times that of a human. They can gallop almost 35 mph, and are pack hunters. They are the dominant creature of the Ruined L.A. region, firing their darts from the roofs of the abandoned buildings scattered around.
