Oh, yeah, definetly.  I too hate overly human looking creatures.  I just think it's interesting to think about what they might look like if they were human.

So the basic idea is to extrapolate the creature's personality and culture onto a person? Or are we doing some unholy spawn of Homo sapiens and said creature?

I think they are supposed to be normal humans wearing accessories that personify a certain creature.

To perhaps take that further, instead of drawing anorexic adolescent emo kids wearing this stuff, why not draw a muscular warrior man wearing a Torpal costume, or Donald Trump wearing a Sombreron hat.

Ah.

Perhaps. It's a one in a million shot that I'll ever do it, but perhaps...

And to take it even further away, let's not use anime and just stylize it any way you want.

Looks like this fine and upstanding youth has just enjoyed an awesome day at GOCKET LAND!

Five minutes well spent.
Probably not a Goat, either.

Picture is back! No advertising, either.

Also... any objections to this should probably be PM'd, as that I can handle.

Who are you again and why in the world would you expect anything resembling rationality or civility in youtube comments?

It would have been really easy to crop out the company name, but whatever.

Well, that's some decent stuff there, especially Yuu's. And...wait...

Oh god no. Octagonapus posted. It makes me literally cringe.

1. The coloring sucks. First off, you used colored pencils (which is not exactly improving your reputation because it is used in an inappropriate context), and secondly, the direction that you colored in has no rhyme or reason. Thirdly, the outline AND color thickness is inconsistent. Fourthly, you couldn't even stay inside the lines.
2. The proportions suck. It looks just...I mean...that's not human in shape. It's a deformed midget. No offense, but...geez, kid, who did you take art lessons from, Rob Liefeld?
3. It looks unprofessional. You didn't clean it up, and the lines are not smooth. The coloring is not smooth. The letters off to the side don't exactly look good and aren't even colored in. I can even see the edge of the paper that you drew on.
4. It looks like a sixth or seventh-grader drew it. Oh, wait a second...

And of course, I am fully aware of the hypocrisy. I know my previous art has sucked. And some of it has REALLY sucked. That's why I haven't posted anything I've drawn too recently; I'm going to wait until I don't hurt my own eyes anymore. My art level is not high enough. I will not rest until I have mastered several professional art lessons and possess a graphics tablet and Photoshop.
Let's see if I can scrounge up a good SFW link that illustrates my point...
Here we are!
I KNOW that it's a furry webcomic, but what would you personally rather I link to? A stick figure-style D&D webcomic that's rated the web equivalent of PG-frickin'-13, contains violence, sex, alcohol, slavery, horribly corny puns, and still expects us to take it seriously by featuring what it passes off as drama, romance and @#$%ing fanservice? With stick figures?!? Or how about yet another Penny Arcade rip-off that lost over half its fan base in 2005 by doing something monumentally stupid? No thank you, give me the somewhat-original PG-rated furry webcomic any day of the year, and twice on Squidmas.

I kind of got off track there...anyway, do you get my points?

You're being unfair.  Look at my two "first" pictures I made one here, of the Vykusi and Milika (though the Milika was posted much later, it was drawn at the same time, also Fiikkal a little later).  I also used color pencils for them.  Dr. O included much more consistent line direction than I did.  I just colored for the sake of showing what and where the colors were.  I had no shading at all, this does a little.  The angle is much more expressive than my simple profiles.  He draws ten times better than I did at that age, and he will obviously improve with time.  I also think that paper edges and whether or not the letters are colored in is irrelevant.  And then you go off on some weird tangent about furry comics and fanservice.
