Crystal and Carbon?
Old Meets the New?
Power to the Tyrant?

I know, it shall be called "Crystals and Flesh", because Chara'ai are all crystal, while Yerxe are all flesh, and the Crystalion are in the middle.

And this will start after school tommorrow, so 3:00 ish.

No, no, let's call it "Power to the Tyrant," because Zvirnnau VII did overthrow and execute his own father. If everybody else doesn't like that, let's go with "Crystal and Carbon." It's catchier than "Crystals and Flesh."

Just so you know, 1)the Cyro system actually has two asteroid belts and 2)the Yerxe are at the technological level of the Roman Empire at its height. Radio would not be discovered for another thousand or so years if not for the Crystalion and Chara'ai, so there would be no radio emissions coming from Yerx.

Other than that, it looks great. I'm going to post now.

EDIT: Oh, and the Yerxe are actually in the Delta Quadrant.

"Kravgohn was the one who devised the heat ray that used mirrors to set enemy soldiers in a blaze from afar."

You know that wouldn't actually work?

It's a big cylinder with a complex system of mirrors and magnifying glasses inside. You open the top hatch and the various instruments inside magnify the light to a burning point. You then adjust the glass the beam comes out of to focus it on a target. Simple, see? The method has been proven to work.

No, it hasn't. Simply directly light with some basic mirrors accomplishes nothing quickly. The only effective thing it would do is blind the soldiers(still an interesting tactic in that regard).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archimedes#The_Archimedes_Heat_Ray_.E2.80.93_myth_or_reality.3F

"n October 2005 a group of students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology carried out an experiment with 127 one-foot (30 cm) square mirror tiles, focused on a mock-up wooden ship at a range of around 100 feet (30 m). Flames broke out on a patch of the ship, but only after the sky had been cloudless and the ship had remained stationary for around ten minutes. It was concluded that the device was a feasible weapon under these conditions. The MIT group repeated the experiment for the television show MythBusters, using a wooden fishing boat in San Francisco as the target. Again some charring occurred, along with a small amount of flame. In order to catch fire, wood needs to reach its flash point, which is around 300 degrees Celsius (570 F).[28]"

Bold added for emphasis. Now imagine soldiers moving around.

The Archimedes Death Ray is different than what UFO is talking about, I think.

It's not simply mirrors, it's also magnifying glasses. Look, let's just say it's some weird Yerxe technology using concentrated light to create a sort of proto-laser, alright? It usually just badly burns soldiers anyway, unless they're wearing cloth or they've been sprayed with a flammable substance.

the Yerxe are at the technological level of the Roman Empire at its height.

The Romans at their height did not even understand the complexities of light, let alone understand how to magnify, direct, and eventually concentrate light in such a way as to cause things to burst into flames. The pure heat from directing it within the device would likely either A. melt the mirrors, or B. melt the casing that contained the mirrors and such.

Consider the example of a solar oven, how it heats up, and the concept is the same.

Yeah, but I guess I didn't mention that they have scientists that can be described as Archimedes on steroids. They are more advanced than the Romans in many ways, so let's just drop it and understand that the Yerxe use admittedly primitive but heatproof steel using a metallic element native to the Bloodshed Nebula's star systems.

Then the Vantry want some of this magical pseudo-metal for use in their alloys.  :P

Sort of steampunk-ish: Technology on the level of the Romans used in extraordinarily advanced ways.
