The Post-Apocalyptic World Map Game
« on: December 26, 2009, 01:50:36 am »

In the year 2015, a massive viral outbreak of unknown origin threatened to wipe out the entire human race. Managing to kill as much as 95% of the Earth's population, the only reason that humanity survived was because of certain genes that rendered a small fraction of the total human population to be immune to the virus that caused the greatest pandemic in all of modern history.

Twenty years later, in 2025, the dust has finally settled. People, and the remnants of their past governments, are starting to get back on their feet once again. However, most of their past accomplishments have already fell into uselessness and decay, not in short part by the virus' handiwork.

What new, or old, nations will rise to meet the challenge of a now Post-Apocalyptic world? And what will they seek to gain, or abandon, in order to achieve it?

That, is for YOU to decide!

     The rules are simple.

Players shall take turns in updating our little story.

With each turn, a player will both edit the map to show the current boundaries of each nation and give an accompanying list of events which transpired in the world during that time.

Additionally, during each turn, a player can either add a new nation to the map or disband an already existing nation.

Be sure, however, to refrain making changes that are too unrealistic, like making an extremely downtrodden nation that's the size of Rhode Island defeat a pan-Asian coalition all by itself.

Each turn is equivalent to a single game year and the map must be updated in Paint and uploaded as a PNG.

So, who wants to go first?

Actually, I got the idea from another site that I also go to frequently. :)

Just ask Brandonazz or some other GSer that also loves alternate history and you'll know what I mean. ;)

Isn't five years a bit too much?

Otherwise, sounds fun. I'll let someone else go first though.

I guess you're right. :)

Let's bring it down to about a year per turn.

That should do it, I guess. :)

Can I claim first?

Also, do I claim a nation, and only update that, or can I do the world as a whole?

On the island of Hokkaido, where most of the Japanese survivors went, a government was set up to facilitate recovery of the Japanese culture.  The name of this government is Nippon no Kaifuku.

Sparsely populated Australia had most people head towards the desert to escapse the cities.  Now, the area is being built upon for the first time, upsetting the ecosystem there.

China's huge population resulted in many pockets of survivors near the coasts and on Hainan.  They are currently in competition with eachother.

India has a small area of new government.  They have isolated themselves from the rest of the world.

Russia's, and other former soviet states',  people have migrated north on the baseless idea that cold weather kills the virus.  It didn't.  Nevertheless, that is where the first stirrings of government took place.

The desert of Saudia Arabia is where most of its survivors fled to.  However, the people who took over now rule very dictatorially.

Europe is a mess.  The crowding caused a lot of deaths, and as such only small pockets of culture remain.  They all compete bitterly for whatever resources they could find.

Africa has no such remaining governments.

Chile, with all of its fruits production, was able to get back on its feet faste due to not having to worry about food.  The rest of South America  is decimated.

The new capital for the former USA is now Rochester.

A thought:  If this is a story, shouldn't it be moved to the storytelling section?

Hmm... That is a good point.

I'll call the mods to move the topic to that section.

Thanks for the heads up. :)

Lies. It was because Madagascar close down!

You'll never know why.

Well, if it was genes that saved the people, I really don't think they would all end up fleeing to inhabitable places like the way Kenotai started it off. It would make sense if they weren't immune, but people still need to eat and have shelter in these harsh conditions. That's just my opinion though.

But, that's applying rational thinking to something that makes people think irrationally.  Like, how effective do you think the lead crosses handed out during the black plague were?  They weren't, but people thought they helped.

Anyway, this is just a game, so you roll with it.

No, I understand where you were going with that, but having these people flee would mean that there were survivors that didn't have the genes because they 'escaped' the virus. If they were immune it wouldn't matter where you went.
