Marcys IX - An Evolution Simulator
« on: December 23, 2009, 07:48:08 am »
2 Billion years ago, the meteorite, which is now referred to as "Catchemu", crashed into the planet of Marcys IX setting off an interesting chain reaction. See, the meteorite was so big that it moved Marcys IX a bit away from the sun, also it held lots of ice, which would eventually melt and cover the planet with water. Sooner or later the first lifeforms developped on the planets ocean.

And here we are, once again, a pool of small microbe animals right now all are size 1, but over the years they will grow, and become different, more complex. Our specimen, we shall call him X as he does not have a name yet is in static phase. He is unable to move, unable to defend itself, it simply eats smaller beings that touch him.

Size: 1/20
Population: 1/10
Feeding: 1 (Consumer)
Hunting/Foraging: 0
Speed:0
Defense: 0
Senses: 0
Intelligence: 1/10
Diet: Unspecified

I will bring in pictures once we have a couple of round coming. Also i did not specify any enemies as our little species does not hold any senses to see them. Once he has senses he will recognize them, but only with intelligence they will gain names... Oh and we can't change our location yet, this skill comes available once we can sense and move. Adding a species to the diet requires intelligence 2, feeding 2, hunting/foraging: 1, senses 1: and speed 1

INTELLIGENCE.

IMPROVE IT.

We need a single cellular civilization.

A couple of millenia passed and now we seem to understand that we are a little more, also we seem to have develloped a flagella with which we travel in inconsequent directions, as we do not have any senses yet this is only a thing of chance if we swim away from evils or into their mouth. (I decided on speed by dice). It seems that alot of our specimen are getting eaten.

Gain both the ability to produce, and immunity to, cell-corroding enzymes. ie. lysozyme.

Can't risk making a poison that we can't tolerate ourselves.

Shouldn't we become multicellular before we try to become sapient? >.>

Not as fun though.

Well not to burst your bubble but to evolve beyond 3 intelligence you need senses, or else the improvement of intelligence doesnt make sense

Over the next millions of years, X was able to develop a sense with which it can feel movement of the tides in the water. This has given the X a great advantage, as it can now feel if a big predator comes close. So far this sense can only sense the strongest urges, which only gives the X an ability to swim in an opposite direction of the tremorsource. In addition to the sense, X now grew smarter to actually "decide" when to move.

On a different note, the attacks of predators are increasing, they seem to be getting bigger as the waves become huge in comparison to our organism. Also intelligence is maxed at this level, as the size of the cell does not have enough space for an advanced nerve-system.

Population: 1/10
Feeding: 1 (Consumer)
Hunting/Foraging: 0
Speed:1 (Swimming)

After another round of a couple of million years, X was able to consume many other species and due to the increase of nutrition, X grew in size. Also on a different note, the numbers of X increased dramatically, now you have a bigger portion of X living in the pond of premulticellulars.

Since we now grew bigger we have new threats coming in, as we become more interesting to bigger predatory organisms. What should X try to accomplish to overcome these burdens?
