     One year later...

         Manuel:

? ? ?:

Manuel:
I guess this is farewell, for now...

Hey!

Oh, it's you...

         Manuel:

Darren:

Manuel:

Darren:

Manuel:

Darren:

Manuel:

Darren:

Manuel:
Darren.

Saying farewell to your home town?

Yes, for now.

What did your father say? About this whole stuff?

He's fine with it now.

As long as I don't go astray from what I believe in, he said.

Uh-huh...

...

Puerto Princesa...

Beautiful name, ain't it now?

Yeah...

If only the entire country was as peaceful as this place is...

Don't worry, we'll get there someday.

Anyway, it's almost time we got goin'.

You're right.

         Armando:

Everyone:

Armando:

Everyone:

Armando:
Attention everyone!

Yes sir!

Alright then.

Let's review the mission.

After months of preparation and fending off Imperial scouts, we have finally amassed enough military assets to create a force to truly be reckoned with. We shall now proceed to take on the Imperials in their very own game.

Our main objective will be to spread shock and awe to our enemies. Do your best to instill in their minds exactly who they are dealing with.

Mortal fear will be our greatest asset in this operation. The more they fear us, the more they'll fear to tread on our soil.

Now, let's move on to our individual objectives.

Sub-Commander Darren, your objective is to take your forces and assist Adam in taking out Japanese forces stationed in the Western Visayas. Once we take complete control of the region, we can move our forces further out and increase our force projection capability.

As for you, Sub-Commander Manuel, you're assigned to accompany me in attacking our targets located in the major military centers of the Central Visayan region. After we secure the region, we can spread our forces even further and also allow our naval army access to the Pacific once Leyte Gulf is neutralized by Sub-Commander Sombras' unit.

Is that clear?

Yes sir!

Good.

This will be our very first large-scale military operation since we took over this island.

Don't blow it.

     Several months ago...

         Armando: Okay, Manuel.

So you finally chose to join.

Well then, let's get started on training.

Armando: As you can see, there's a tiled map presented onscreen. That is the battlefield.

Each tile in the battlefield represents a single zone.

Armando: Zones are numbered row to row from left to right, as shown above.

Zones are important to look into as certain events, especially area of effect abilities or artillery fire, affect entire zones at a time. Sometimes even more.

Always keep these in mind.

Armando: Now, within each zone, there are 7 areas.

Each of these areas are numbered clockwise. Except for area 0, which is at the center.

Areas are where you place your units and bases.

Specifically, units are placed on areas 1 to 6, while bases are placed on area 0.

Keep in mind that every area can only contain a single unit.

Bases, however, are not affected by such a restriction.

Take great care of areas, especially 1 to 6, as opponents might take advantage of vacant areas and slip right through your defensive line. The same goes for them too, so keep your eyes peeled for an opportune moment.

Now that that's over, let's head on to the units.

Armando: As you can see, there are white and black chevrons all across the map.

Those are units.

Your units are the black ones while the white ones are your opponent's.

Before we continue, first I'd like to tell you something about stats.

Stats are characteristics that make each unit what they are.

Here's a rundown of stats that units have...

Health: The unit's level of health. When it reaches zero (0), the unit is usually either destroyed or incapacitated.

Size: The number of individual soldiers in a unit. The larger the size of the unit, the lesser it is vulnerable to one-hit kill attacks.

Constitution: The size of the individual soldiers in a unit. The effectiveness of some abilities are affected by a unit's constitution.

Firepower: The unit's attack power. The higher it is, the higher the damage your unit can deal to an opponent unit.

Armor: The unit's defense power. The higher it is, the higher the damage your unit can deflect from an opponent unit.

Precision: The unit's ability to hit targets successfully. The higher it is, the higher the chance your unit's attack will connect.

Maneuverability The unit's ability to avoid attacks successfully. The higher it is, the higher the chance your enemy unit's attack will miss.

Range: The unit's ability to hit targets from a given range. A value of "1" means your unit can only attack units in an adjacent area. From there, every increase in value equals one more area added to your unit's range.

Speed: The unit's ability to travel a given distance in a single turn. A value of "1" means your unit can only move to an adjacent area in a single turn. From there, every increase in value equals one more area added to your unit's range of travel.

Sensors: Your unit's ability to detect stealth units. When your unit's sensors level is higher than an enemy unit's stealth level, it will be revealed.

Sensor Range: The range at which your unit's sensors work. Measured in areas.

Stealth: Your unit's ability to stay hidden from enemy view. When your unit's stealth level is lower than an enemy unit's sensor level, YOUR unit will be revealed!

Stealth Range: The range at which your unit's stealthiness works. Measured in ">n", where "n" is the number of areas from your unit.

Aside from those, there are also things called abilities.

Think of as special things that certain units can do to benefit you in certain situations.

Oh, and another thing...

Notice that we usually let units do the hands-on stuff? Well, you could actually do "manual overrides" in order to control the units directly. This usually improves certain aspects, depending on how you control the unit, or units, you are overriding.

Once you gain enough experience, you might want to try it out, Manuel. However, always, and I mean ALWAYS remember to use it only when you need it, or else you might get more than just a headache.

I don't want to lose another one just because he performed "manual override" on his entire task force.

Well, that's about it.

I'll see you at the fields tomorrow at 0600 sharp.

Dismissed...

     Back at the present...

         Manuel:

Armando:
We're almost there...

The Imperials are here.

Sucks to be them.

Pardon for the massive delay.

Let us begin...

CHAPTER 1:
The Battle of Tagbilaran

          Commander's Log.

          July 15th, 1944.

Our forces have initiated landfall all across Japanese occupied territories.

From where I stood, within the safety of our flagship's main bridge, I saw entire landmasses engulfed in a flurry of purifying flame. The skies above us slowly turned red as our adversary's crude contraptions steadily fell pray to our vast technological and tactical superiority.

We watched, calm and collected, as droves upon droves of imperial soldiers became fodder for our cannons, which consumed them by the hundreds, or even the thousands.

Regardless of the clear disparity between our two sides, we, the leaders, cannot simply stand back and let the machines perform their tasks, unadvised, allowed to function by themselves.

We could not be too certain. We must be ever vigilant, continuously honing them, taking note of any irregularities.

After all, the manipulation of these living weapons was still a predominantly untested science.

And I guess, it is with this reason that I was assigned by my superior, Sub Commander Armando Espiritu, to carry out a live test for him in the Bohol capital of Tagbilaran.

I will carry with me a small task force of no more than thirty individual units, and sneak my way into a nearby island and there construct my base of operations. From there on, I'll take all preliminary opposition in the area.

This will be my first real mission.

          Wish me luck...

         Manuel: So far, so good.

No one seems to have spotted us.

...

This place should be enough for a forward base.

Well then, let's get started...
