A Glimpse Into The Future...
« on: December 05, 2009, 12:03:19 pm »
One day, a young Pentekonterus fell asleep in a field and heard a voice. The voice said this:
"I see that you have been through much these past few months. But do not worry. There is a bright future ahead for you and your kind. In three days, one who carries a pointed stick will find you in the mountains, and teach you his methods. When he arrives, do not be afraid, for there is much in store for you. What you are about to see will happen a million generations from now, and it will all be because of you." The Pentekonterus did not understand these words, but began to dream...

As the dream shifted into view, a large city appeared. Standing in the city square was a young Pentekonterus named Vixur. He was surrounded by several dozen attendants, bodyguards, and other assorted civil servants. He was the prince, and he was on a tour of the kingdom he would soon inherit. His father, Vikuth, was growing old. In this, their Nation of Kings, citizens lived in great happiness, and they had the royal family to thank for it. You see, the royal family has been descended, over a million generations, from Girruth himself. This, they believed, placed them abouve everyone else. Living under their rule was like living under a shady umbrella, resulting in a golden age. Trouble did brew outside, however. On their continent alone, there were two other nations, the Nation of Flames and the Swamp Nation, that made war on them. Also, there were those darned uncrushable tribes in the grasslands. How they had escaped destruction after so many wars was beyond anyone. This was not the concern here, however. The concern right now was that the prince complete his tour in time for the Naval Festival. This festival celebrates the day in winter almost 700 years before that their ancestors finally conquered their old enemy-the sea-and set out to sail across the globe. It was a time of gift-giving, dancing, feasting, and the time when most marriages were held.

((In all reality, it IS a warning... but this is already at this point, so no need to fast-forward.))

BIC: The prince noticed that day's front-page headline in the newspaper; the royal family kept as up-to-date as anyone else; and it read, "Local Nutjob Accidentally Builds Space Probe!" This, thought the prince, was interesting.

In the darkness of space there where many different alien species, with thousands of different cultures, ideologies, temperaments, and personalities. Many where peacefull, friendly, welcoming to those close to reaching the greatest of goal that was space...

others.... not so much...

there the ruthless, ambitious, and opportunistic races that really just do not care much of the moral and ethics that sometimes guide other races, some go as far as to exterminate or enslave any pre-interstellar race they could find, and this race right here was one of them... the Core Combine fleet had been looking for planets to expand its evergrowing empire into, wheather it was inhabited or not was irrelevant, uninhabited words yielded resources, inhabited ones yielded slaves AND resources. The fleet its self was a moderately sized one, containing the general swarm of frigates and destroyers that accompanied it, the three most noticeable craft however where the two carriers and the assault carrier, the assault carrier was one of the newest ship classes to join the Core Combines arsenal, at first glance it looked simply like a larger carrier with it being 35 kilometers, however it was also better armed than the normal carrier, truly the assault carrier had been designed to act as a command ship for the Combines fleets.

Inside the largest ship the interior was dark, it was always dark, the Core where never much for giving their ships much lighting inside as it was not very necessary, on the bridge a rather large gray skinned slug like creature with three eye stalks layed on a flat throne like seat that seem to float in midair a bit away from him on the side stood a large cylindrical tank of water, the Skrall's advising Gorak unit. After incident 367 (The Riether/Core Combine conflict) the Skrall the TRUE leaders of the combine seemed to have had enough of ruling from the shadows and took it upon themselves to expand their empire, Ragaran the slug who was in charge of the operation had been monitoring some communications that seemed to be intercepted from a pre-interstellar civilization, the hive network that ran through the fleet began to buzz with activity due to the news...

//Minor radio transmissions detected... course of action lord?// the Skrall was quick to respond...
//Deploy probe... begin planetary analysis... proceed with analysis of sentients... analyse all biological and technological data... course of action will be decided upon analysis completion.// Due to multiple bionic and cybernetic enhancements the Skrall's voice almost sounded half like a machines (think kinda like how the grox sound only a bit deeper in tone)
//Gonorak probe deployed analysis will begin shortly.//

The squid like creature soon approached the planet, intending to see wheather the system was suitable prey...

Little did the voices above know that down below, the dominant species was split in two. While sailing arond the world had been a pasttime for centuries, never did anyone think to explore the "Old Continent." It was said that a demon lived there, able to corrupt or destroy all who went within reach. Most decided to avoid these lands, but those who shipwrecked there were never heard from again. As the prince toured the city, he did not care about this, but rather about where to find his luncheon. He had it at a small bistro that specialized in grilled Ukuril. The Ukuril are an herbivorus species that the Pentekonterus have hunted since before their sapience. There are over 7,000 ways to cook it by the method of frying alone. To the prince, the meal was astisfactory, which was good for the chef. If it were not, he may have been beheaded, depending on the king's mood. Meanwhile, out at sea, an old sailor named Drukl saw a strange shape in the clouds and sensed that somethng was wrong.

//Probe has arrived at destination... beginning scan...//
//Analysing... analysing...//
//Well?!// the Skrall warmonger was obviously becoming impatient...
//Scanning complete... bringing up data files...//

The Skrall personal HUD unit which was made possible through the cybernetics in his eye stalks allowed him to see the information through his own eyes without the need of even a hologram... the data soon displayed practically giving him an alien sheet on any obvious information the probe could easily discern, he was not very concerned with their culture as far as Ragaran was concerned they where just another race to enslave nothing more...

//Sentients Detected!... Designation: Pentekonterus//
//Technological level: Global level, planetary mass mostly dominated...//
//Bringing up Biological analysis......//
//Skrallification Compatibility: Compatible...//
//Beginning planetary analysis...//
//Surface scans show adequate resources for colonies... population also sufficient for bio-factory construction...//
//Intercepting radio transmissions... scans show civilization is currently divided...//
The Skrall lord did not bat any concern over this, the fact that the sentients where divided basically meant they would be easier to conquer.
//Course of action lord Ragaran?//
//Planet is suitable for expansion procedures... launch terraforming spore pods... launch exterminator tripod units and invader pods... proceed with maximum extermination procedures for all military targets... proceed with subjugation procedures for all civilian areas... proceed with Skrallification procedures after subjugation procedures are completed...//
//Core Combine fleet in battle formation... execute expansion procedures...//

And so they did... the entire Core Combine fleet proceeded to head towards the homeworld of the Pentekonterus and they had only one thing on their mind: conquest...

The Core Combine fleet soon appeared over the Pentekonterus homeworld and was already in battle formation, they had the green light for an invasion, the carriers opened up their four way beaks, allowing an uncountable number of fighters out, and in compartments under them groups of terraforming spore pods, exterminator tripods, and invader pods where launched, ALL heading towards the Pentekonterus homeworld... most specifically any military targets capable of interfering with subjugation or Skrallification procedures... soon after they launched there was only one way to describe the areas that where being attacked by them...

It was if the sky suddenly rained fire...

The first wave would concentrate on exterminating all military targets, as well as putting fear into the general populace the second waves job was to begin subjugation procedures, as well facilitate Skrallification procedures...

Drukl knew what the Old Continent meant. He knew thatthere was no civilization there. And the proof was this: only those Pentekonterus living on the New Continent had the gift of sapience. None of them knew that their brethren an ocean away still lived as animals, as they all had before the superplume. But when he saw the invading forces, he knew that this continent was his only chance.
"First Mate Dilf!"
"Aye!"
"Set a course for the Old Continent!"
"But...Captain!"
"I said, DO IT!"
"... aye,aye, captain!"
And so it was. Drukl and his 16 crewmates were headed for what may haeve been the only escape. But the prince, back in the city, was not so lucky. He heard a great whirring noise, then looked up in shock as the shadows in the sky blotted out the light of Kaivik. The king quickly recieved reports of several attacks, and immediately dispatched the army. However, the tribes of the plains put up an even better fight. It was a show of defiance, or at least, or at least of stubbornness.

((Last question... this is a dream right? as in what might happen? or what is going to happen? because.... think.. I don't see a planetbound species able to take on a technologically advanced empire eternally without outside help.... and are we sure one continent on a planet will be able to hide them?))

Armies where launched against the Core Combines armies, this was expected, sentients always resisted even though it was futile. Still the Core Combine was always prepared for war, the tribes were giving them minor trouble, mainly because there where alot of them, but the Core had numbers and technology on their side they would not be able to hold out forever... the cities radios and communications systems where easily hacked as the alien invaders had a message for the Pentekonterus...

Every single T.V, radio, headphone, ipod (or the Pentekonterus equivalent of an ipod...) began to broadcasts an order to surrender from the alien race the message played out once then looped on practically every channel... given by the alien warlord Ragaran himself...

//All sentients of the planet you call Kaivik will surrender all holdings to us... you are now under Skrall and by extension Core Combine rule... you will surrender or we will proceed with MAXIMUM extermination procedures to all sentients... you will obey all orders WITHOUT QUESTION! you will proceed to the nearest landing sight to be sent into orbit and Skrallified... the consequence of not following orders will be extermination...//

To put it simply, the Core Combine even though it was still fighting the Pentekonterus resistance was already demanding a surrender, in reality, extermination was an unlikely action the Core would take, mainly because more slaves where always good, Ragaran had already made it a point to call in some slaver ships so that they may begin converting the populace once they where subjugated... and on all continents (with a smaller presence on the lost one) the status was the same the Core Combines armies where gaining ground, and no mercy was shown against the Pentekonterus resistance...

This looks like a job for...

launch exterminator tripod units and invader pods...

((Dear lord, not ANOTHER rip-off of The War of the Worlds. This has been done countless times, and every time, it's called a homage. H. G. Wells would not be amused. They don't even NEED tripods or pods! This isn't a small-scale, limited-resource mission far from home! THEY CAN JUST USE THEIR SPACESHIPS. THEIR SPACESHIPS ARE EQUIPPED WITH GIGANTIC GUNS. IF THEY ARE SO BENT ON EXTERMINATION, WHY NOT JUST INITIATE AN ORBITAL BOMBARDMENT OPERATION?))

One day, a young Pentekonterus fell asleep in a field and heard a voice. The voice said this:
"...What you are about to see will happen a million generations from now, and it will all be because of you."

((A million freaking generations? Okay, what UFO King said. Here's some human-time perspective: Difference in time between flight of first heavier-than-air aircraft and first landing on a celestial body: 65 years.))

((How did they learn the Pentekonterus language so quickly? A universal translation MIGHT be achieved via mass telepathy, but what you are talking about is RADIO. Fricking radio. And you implied that they're broadcasting in Skrall, so how do the Pentekonterus know what the hell they're saying?! That's like in Armageddon, where meteors make the atmosphere catch on fire: it's bone-stick-stone ignorant!))

First of all they are not bent on extermination, they want to enslave them, second of all, a loud rant is not required, third of all no one has ONCE had a problem with me using tripods.

the generations thing was likely a wording error, nothing to get so fussed up about... calm down man!

and the language....for all we know they might still be translating it, and for all we know the pentekonterus don't even understand it... I have seen a bunch of first contact rps where the language exchange is almost instant... plus they where studying their planet for a bit so they may have a basic grip on their language...

[[Edit]]- another thing... they are perfectly capable of burning this planet to a crisp if they wanted to... they just don't want to, they want slaves not blood... (well maybe just a bit ot blood)

(( Ummm...  ??? Did these posts happen while I was asleep? Oh, and remember, the Pentekonterus started out a bit dumber than Australopithecus (did I spell that right?), so it took this long. No joke. It's just for differentiation's sakes, really. Also, their posture (check out the creature thread) and their lack of focus on improving comfort for their species may have hindered such development. And the fact that their planetary conditions haven't changed much, so they didn't have to adapt. And they don't farm, they're carnivores. Unfortunately for Drukl, he did not know two things:
One, the Core Combine had already landed on the Old Continent.
Two, he did not know that back home, the other animals were entering the party.

Suddenly, huge herds of Ukuril, as if attempting to help those that hunted them, stampeded over the Core Combine's soldiers. Meanwhile, large packs of Irriuths, once he Pentekonterus' main hunting rival, swept down from the sky. It didn't help the Core Combine that their helium-filled flotation sacs were in their tails. Or that otherwise, they were just very lightweight reptiles. And then the Karavus lept from the rivers. These semiaquatic behemoths were the main reason that the Pentekonterus had avoided the water for so long. In groups, they were even more dangerous. These wild creatures were not sapient, but they could fear. And helping their enemies was less therrifying than being wiped out completely.

The non sentient animals that where apparently joining the fight did not even make the Core Combine flinch, mainly because in a very short time those beasts would be fighting for THEM, for you see the Core's terraforming spores where starting to do their thing, entire regions of Kaivik where transforming, the vegetation becoming denser, the beasts becoming incredibly savage, growing larger, stronger, and appearing in even greater numbers since the spores would induce a mating frenzy, these "Core Ferals" had been mutated by the terraforming spores, it was as if the flora and fauna of Kaivik was turning against its inhabitants since the spores also had that nice little effect of mind control...

To ensure a surrender with the Pentekonterus the Core was launching its terraforming spore pods straight into the oceans and rivers of Kaivic in order to poison the Pentekonterus water supply with their mind controlling spores, these spores had done wonders against the tribes, they encouraged sluggish behavior and basically sapped them of their will to fight, which would soon follow with the rest of the Pentekonterus as the sheer number of spores raining down onto the planet allowed the populace to see them in the air as they rained down upon their cities.

Meanwhile on the assault carrier, Ragaran was beginning to realize that for some reason or another these creatures where apparently not getting the message that resistance was futile ((Ok I could not resist...)) apparently he was going to have to step up on the destruction if he wanted these creatures to surrender...

//Target labled locations on planetary masses...//

With this the Core Combine targeted certain areas on Kaivic, Ragaran had to show these aliens that it was either Skrallification or extermination...

//Locations targeted......... proceed with orbital bombardment!//

It was relatively simply for any Core fleet to bomb a planet to dust, carriers where particularly good at since the refit, the locations were targeted and the Core immediately launched a small number of its orbital bombardment weapons, all aimed for a single continent on Kaivic (LUCKILY not the old one..), mainly a certain amount of plasma bolts, which detonated like nukes on a much different scale, due to the bombardment, in just a few minutes the Core Combine had completely "glassed" half a continent on Kaivic and they where capable of doing MUCH MORE if they wanted to... it should also be noted that in the area they glassed there where still Combine soldiers and slaves along with Pentekonterus resisters, showing just how ruthless the Skrall where...

And that they meant business now...

And in the Pentekonterus cities, the alien message continued to loop in the Pentekonterus media on every signal and channel, and the Core where getting  more skilled in the Pentekonterus language causing the order to surrender to slowly become more understandable...

As the three nations prepared to surrender, each rallied a last-ditch attempt to survive. The Nation of Kings mobilized an army consisting of every one of its citizens. The Swamp Nation, Drukl's home, sent its women and children into uderground bunkers that might just help them. The Nation of Embers sent out a weak radio signal asking the Core Combine to have mercy in the name of their gods. Drukl, meanwhile decided to surrender himself and his crew in the hopes that he might be spared. Those Pentekonterus still resisting were now faced with the Core's soldiers, the mutated animals, and the members of the grassland tribes, who, believing they would be spared, stopped fighting the Core and turned against their own people. Now, machine gun met phaser bolt and throwing-spear volley on a battlefield that stretched over half of the New Continent. The prince of the Nation of Kings fled, and from behind Core Combine lines in orbit, an object half the size of Kuuruk hurtled towards the system, poised to annihilate everything on the planet. It passed the planet Kiivck, an iceball of a planet with only a crumbling alien mining station to its name.

((The planet is called Kuuruk. The STAR is kalled Kaivik.))

((EDIT- No, it's not a ship, it's an asteroid. Which will probably be deflected.))

//Gorak! Proceed with status report of planetary conquest//

Ragarans advising Gorak began to relay the data towards him instintantly giving him the state of the Pentekonterus

//Faction designated as "Nation of Kings" is mobilizing mass armed force to resist..... Faction designated as "Swamp Nation" is attempting to hide its civilians in hopes of sparing them from Skrallification.... Faction designated as "Nation of Embers" is currently sending transmission... the message appears to be a request to show mercy... Analysing... planetary conquest is estimated to be in 24 hours or less...//

If the Skrall where capable of having emotions, and by extension have a sense of humor Ragaran would have probably burst out in a laughing fit, show mercy? These creatures must have been truly desperate, but since they asked nicely (by groveling) Ragaran would give the Nation of Embers "Skrall mercy"

//Send transmission to faction designated "Nation of Embers"...//

//Connected...//

//Faction designated "Nation of Embers" you will move your population towards these designated landing sights for Skrallification... if you to not proceed to designated landing sights you will all be exterminated! Proceed with relocation immediately....//

As for actions against the other two nations, the Core Combine took on the Nation of Kings army head on, thousands upon thousands of slave troops and soldiers charged their front line, they where going for a full out frontal assault, what was truly disturbing however was the fact that the Skrall had already started the assimilation process known as Skrallification, and because this the Pentekonterus where beggining to notice that among the Core's slave armies there where quite a few Pentekonterus who where fighting with them, all of them genetically and cybernetically enhanced And even as the battle proceeded Pentekonterus could see Core Combine troops dragging away their comrades to convert them.

Similar actions where taken against the Swamp Nation basically the Core where just hitting them repeatedly, against an army with greater numbers and far superior technology they would not last long...

//Warlord Ragaran... object approaching... asteroid of large size heading towards our position... object will likely impact Kuuruk//

Ragaran did not give much of an outward responce but you could say he was mentally sighing inside... of ALL times... this was practically the worst.... then again... perhaps he could convince the Pentekonterus that the Core Combine had fired at the asteroid to save them... hmmmmmmm then Skrallification would be ten times easier....

//Record asteroid destruction...//

With this the Core Combines larger ships turned all of their weaponry towards the asteroid they basically hoped break it up into small pieces that would eventually burn up in the atmosphere, they where recording it because perhaps later they would show it to the Pentekonterus to perhaps trick them... or something... it was always good to have a few extra plans on you...

//Fire all batteries!// the next action was pretty obvious...

As for Drukl and his crew, a Core Combine patrol caught them and sent them with the rest of the captured Pentekonterus to be Skrallified...

The prince realized that there was probably no escape for him. Rather than be captured by the Core soldiers, he fell on his own sword. The king headed to the catacombs of his palace to escape any nearby armies. In the Nation of Embers, the orders issued by the Core were followed to the letter. Better to live a slave than to die in vain, was it not? As time passed, those that did not surrender did one of two things:
1. Fight to their own deaths.
2. Kill themselves.
Kuuruk was slowly spiraling into chaos, and as the chunks of meteor burned to a crisp in the sky, the planet was saved in one way, but doomed in another. Those wild creatures that had not yet been mutated, which mainly lived in the oceans, paid no mind to the madness on the surface. Simply put, the planet had gone to Urukval(their religion's underworld).

Ahhh the joy.... or at least semblance of joy of conquering a new world... to further the cause, it was a good feeling... Ragaran would have given himself a pat on the back.... but he was not that emotional, after all the work never ended in the Core Combine, an industrial fleet would be called in order to handle proper Skrallification procedures then he would be off to find a new planet and repeat the process, the Pentekonterus fate was sealed... (or was it? DUN DUN DUUUUNNNNN)

Needless to say the Pentekonterus who was dreaming was no longer seeing a dream he was now seeing a nightmare, all throughout Kuuruk his future people where being enslaved by an unstoppable enemy that appeared out of nowhere, was this truly their fate?

Throughout Kuuruk Core Combine where practically everywhere on every continent, patrols ran through the forest daily looking for any last pockets of resistance as well as searching for any bunkers or anywhere else resisters could be hiding and any Pentekonterus who had not killed themselves or had not bin Skrallified where dragged out of their homes to be converted, this labor force would join the one on the industrial fleet heading towards Kuuruk to begin harvesting the planet for resources and create proper construction facilities. after which Kuuruk would be nothing but a memory, just another of the many other worlds the Skrall had conquered, and the Pentekonterus would just be another race they have enslaved, catalogued, and forgotten...

((So question.... since this is all just a dream, do you plan on perhaps doing one of those first contact threads but instead in the real world instead of the dream? Thing is I know very well you don't want your race enslaved or destroyed when your just starting out, soooo I am just wondering what this all might add up to, it would make a great Armageddon myth the Pentekonterus keep until they reach space and realise what is coming are infact aliens))

As the nightmare faded into nothingness, the young Pentekonterus reeled in shock at how he could have caused this. The voice issued him a last warning: "If you do not wwish for this, then do not go to the East. There is one there who will corrupt your heart. Then, the chaos that you will cause will leave your people in these ruins. Beware the East... beware the East... Just then, the young Pentekonterus awoke and saw a small band of his own kind headed his way. He began to run, but they called to him to stop. Later, they would teach him many secrets: fire, the pointed stick, basic art. It was the beginning of the greatest civilization that Kuuruk would ever know. In the ruins of the previous attempts at civilization, they began to build their people.

END
