Logan Felipe's Art
« on: October 26, 2009, 07:07:27 pm »
These first two are some concepts I drew for a sci fi movie idea of mine. Thought it'd be a good idea to flesh out the ecosystem of one of the alien worlds involved to better establish the sentient species culture.

Shocker; is not star wars related.  :o

A four legged bird-like creature that fills a similar ecological niche as the common gray squirrel. It uses its large beak to crack nuts and seeds. Working name: Toby the squirrel bird. Not sure what to name his species yet.

Some aquatic animal concepts. The largest one is an orca sized (20-25 feet), penguin-like animal. It uses its feet to dig out nests to lay eggs in, and to assist in maneuvering while underwater. Its front limbs do most of the work when swimming, however. The small thing with the manatee tail is some type of aquatic sheep descendant, whose hooves have adapted to serve as fins, and has developed a paddle like tail.

Oh hey, haven't seen you in a while.

Neat drawings. Do you participate in Hydro's Sagan 4 project?

Wow, long time no see! ;D

Glad to have you down in the art section. :)

Love the artwork! An alternate timeline with a point of difference during the early cenozoic, I presume? ;)

Greetings. : )

@Gec: I've heard of Sagan 4, but I haven't worked in it...

@Yuu: Some of them are. What I'm working on is somewhat based on part of an incomplete fanfic I wrote. The yet unnamed planet is supposed to be similar to earth, but with a bit cooler climate and more trees (mostly resembling Alaska, Canada, the Northern United States, and parts of Russia, but warmer around the equator).

So most of the animals will be adapted for colder climates. The penguin thing's appearance and behavior were inspired by elements of penguins, killer whales, elephant seals, and Liopleurodon (as seen in walking with dinosaurs). There's a couple others I'll post this weekend; they show a couple elements of triassic era synapsids and large mesozoic amphibians. One fills an ecological niche comparable to those of wolves; not that you'd be able to tell by looking at it. ; )

Something that would fill an ecological niche similar to that of a coyote. Seen here hunting a squirrel bird creature.
When I finished this one, I realized that it actually resembles the bat things in The Dark Crystal...

An unusal beaked, toothed fish. Armored scales protect its head and dorsal area. Its diet is varied, and includes shellfish and whatever else is small enough for it to eat.

I've watched the Dark Crystal, and it was a beautiful film, but I don't really recall any bat-like creatures. Could you please elaborate a bit more?

Towards the end, the two main characters are running out of time, and need to get to their destination fast. So, they find these white, furry tall creatures with bat-like features that gallop with huge strides at incredible speeds. Sadly, the creatures die for some reason (can't remember it clearly).

EDIT: Landstriders (had to look at the transcript online to find out).
Kinda looks like it, 'cept squished vertically and carnivorous.

I'll upload a new concept soon; Just need to finish the power suit, and he'll be done. Supposed to be a sort of heavy weapons specialist of the planet's sentient species' armed forces.

Raptoridaner Heavy Weapons Specialist. Still working on the actual heavy weapons...
I'm debating whether or not the chin light is necessary; at first I thought it might work with the theme of threes in Raptoridaner culture, but it may be unneccessary... Suggestions?

A couple other versions I also touched up in photoshop:

From the looks of it it looks like it's a screenshot from a documentary.  As for exactly what program, I'm afraid there's no way to tell just from the picture I'm afraid.

The feathered part is most certainly from a roadrunner, I know that much

You've got some great stuff here! The Halo-raptor was pretty epic!  ;D

You are correct! :)

I used Photoshop CS4 to combine these two pictures: Source photo 1 Source photo 2).

Some pics of my 3 main contributions to a mural back in High School.

Here's what's going on:

An Apatosaurus, a Selkath, and an Ithorian are sitting in a Cafe. The Selkath is on an important business call (perhaps Kolto-related). Meanwhile, the Apatosaurus and Ithorian are sharing jokes. They've gotten really worked up, and are roaring with laughter.

Apatosaurus: "...und one peanut was a salted...peanut!"

Ithorian: *slams Juma Juice on table, causing it to slosh out of his cup* "Bwahahahahaha!"

The Selkath ignores the other two, and continues with his business call.
