I wasn't really happy with the old ship design, so remade it. I also added a bit for some tech that I forgot.

First off, the Warp Shield. The Warp Shield is, well, the name says it all. It is kept on the back end of the craft in STL travel, since using it requires shutting down impulse (in this case, the Solenium rods). When it is required, the Solenium rods are cut off from the power source, rendering them inert, and thus safe to put closer to the craft, and retracted. Then, the Warp Shield is maneuvered into place, covering everything but the bridge. Several times, the Riether ships have been mistaken for another ship, since when the pursuers drop out of orbit, the Riether ship looks to be a completely different ship!

Another thing; Smaller Riether ships typically use the ships themselves, fitted with an armor piercing device, to ram ships and destroy them. Only the larger, slower ships use energy weapons. Sometimes even they have a sword like device fitted onto the bow. These give the ships a particular advantage to other speceis' ships, since they are mostly directed toward blocking light and plasma devices. This brings up another point; Riether ships don't have conventional shields. They use ablative armor. For those not familiar with Ablative Armor, it is basically a layer of armor outside the hull of the spacecraft designed to evaporate on impact of a weapon, or otherwise dissipate it. In this case, the armor is regenerative, so generally a small ship isn't capable of destroying a large Riether ship, unless it has an extremely fast firing rate. Smaller craft like fighters generally don't have defensive systems at all, but are very maneuverable.

Are cloaking fields unrealistic? because if they aren't I'dlike to use them. To balance it out, maybe they'll only work in the warp position?

Cloaking fields are totally realistic, although not exactly fields. We've invented them in real life, and they're called metamaterials. They bend light around them, making them invisible. They have so many applications it would take me hours to list them all, but some great examples are light-speed computers, super-hard metal plating used as windows, and cloaking devices.

For more info, just look them up on Wikipedia. It's amazing what science has accomplished.

Right, metamaterials. That would also justify why the cloak would only work when the ship is in warp configuration, since, if they were in the warp shield, then they would only be effective when they were covering the ship.

Blegh, I could've worded that better...
