The *NEW* Riether Thread!

OK, First off, forget EVERYTHING I said in the previous thread. I absolutely despised what I did with them. They were awfully different from the original version, and nothing of what I intended.


This is the typical military garb of the ____________________ (Still looking for form of government)

First off, I'd like to point out the vast physiological differences in the original design. I was trying to make as demonic a creature as possible, so I gave them lots of spikes 'n stuff. They have highly developed... erm... what do you call those knobs just below your hands? Anyway, it has become a combat device, basically built-in serrated daggers. For safety, they're typically kept in metal casings. I have no idea where the four arm concept came from, but that was one of the things I hated about the new version.

Next, their personality. I have absolutely no clue where the status obsession idea came from, that was another thing that I harbored great hatred for. They were, and are "again" a military based society, with individuals aspiring all their lives, typically, to do something for the navy. One thing that survived from old to new and back to old, is their extremely strict code of conduct. For example, one rule in the book is: Do not kill without warrant. If you kiil for the sake of killing, you will be convicted.

As you can see, they aren't exactly the nicest species in the world. In fact, the entire concept was to be something of an "antibino". Whereas the Bino put a high priority on life, individuality, and spirituality, the Riether have no problem with assassination and death, individuality is frowned upon due to a high priority on social conformity, and the Riether have no religion, not counting the Code.

I'll add more later, just need to get the sheets and such.

I also said it was a placeholder, so it's most likely it will chance once I look at the government wiki page.

I think this warrants a double-post. The individual states are kratocratic (that sounds silly), which goes perfectly with the "Warranted kills are honorable" Code Rule.

And, I'll explain ships.

Riether ships have a very unique method of propulsion. The artificial element Solenium, invented by the Riether, is highly reactive in a magnetic field. The solenium resonates (sort of like quartz, right?) when it comes into contact with the field, the resonation waves traveling away from the field. These resonations tend to move the solenium with quite a bit of force. As it, a LOT. The downside of solenium is that it is extremely reactive to most elements, almost like antimatter. Typically, a long solenium rod is suspended somewhere in the ship. Most ships are too small to fully enclose the rods, so they're often held outside the craft.

Here's a rather uncommon subject: Disease

By far the most infamous disease known by the Riether is the deadly White Plague.

1. Early on in the infection: one would feel slightly under the whether; cough

2. Farther on: one would feel fatigued, slightly short of breath. Severe cough.

3. Midway in: individual is pale, and has developed chills. Cough is very severe, blood may come up.

4. Near the end: individual is very pale. Violent shaking. Cognitive skills are beginning to suffer. Cough is accompanied by blood.

5. Near death: individual is literally white as a sheet. Shaking has ceased; victim has no left over energy. Cognitive skill diminished to almost nothing. Chance of coma. At this point, what little blood the individual has left will begin to flood the lungs (or other internal structures present in that particular species), almost indefinitely killing the individual.

The disease is spread by both air and liquid, so the coughing is ideal for spreading it.

Maybe I should lay off Pandemic II :P

Anyways, great update. As has been said, things like this aren't discussed that frequently here so it's a pretty nice change. :)
