Well, it's out this week. Should also mention it seems to be doing well with the critics, 89 on Metacritic, 85 on RT(89 top critics)

I just got back from seeing this with my brother, and I gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised, I really enjoyed it!

I kinda expected it to be too focused on looking good, yet neglect the actual movie, but it delivered on both fronts.

I recommend it.

Just got back from watching it in the front row with 3D glasses.

HOLY MOTHER OF F***.

If you like sci-fi and special effects, GO SEE THIS FILM. Sagan 4 enthusiasts especially!

I saw a bit about the making of it on 60 Minutes, and they said that Cameron paid attention to every single minuscule detail. They weren't kidding. I'll be watching this film again, and I'll probably notice many things I hadn't before. While I found District 9 to be a much more thought-provocative and well-written story, this is still a beautiful film. But it still suffers from the common lack of ability to make an environmental message subtle. Then again, I think that it would be impossible, given the plot.

I feel that I was right to watch it, because it has given me a lot of inspiration for my creatures like the Perrachi and the Yerxe. It was quite well-made, but I don't get why it was never explained what "unobtanium" is. Apparently it has anti-gravity properties, as you can see from the floating mountains in the trailer, and it is the humans' prime motive for invading the moon of Pandora. Yet nobody ever says why it floats. In one scene a character holds a piece over a device with purple neon lights that makes it float, but when he takes it off it becomes a normal rock. Does the area with the floating mountains have some weird magnetic field or something? I dunno, but you soon forget about it when you see the amazing wildlife of Pandora, like trees with pink neon tentacles and lizards with rainbow helicopter wings. Actually, that sounds ridiculous.

If you're a science fiction fan or just like pretty-looking films, go see Avatar. You won't regret it.

On a side note, I suppose that this film is the reason why they're naming the live-action film based on the animated TV series Avatar: The Last Airbender "The Last Airbender" instead of simply "Avatar."
I came, I saw, I went back to bed.

Rainbow helicopter wings?!

I am so gonna watch this! ;D

That really irked me a lot when I thought that "Avatar" was "The Last Airbender", because I thought they switched "Avatar: The Last Airbender" from it's current concept (oriental magicky stuff) to it's previous one (sci-fi) mid-promotion.

I was like "Cool! Aang is like in one of the wind temples and the fire Nation's finally caught up with him" and then I saw the commercials for Mr. Cameroon's film and I was like "Wut".

It's a good thing I knew about the wiki for "Nickelodeon's Avatar".  :D

I really got to go see this. Also, the Avatar name thing seems like it might be correct.

You'll never know why.

A poster on the facepunch thread pretty much summed up my experience after seeing the film in a 4-panel comic.

I agree with skyward. I thought the movie was friggin awesome, then I took off the 3D glasses, walked out, and thought, " Wow, reality looks like crap. "

Don't worry, Sky. From the looks of it, it seems like my kind of movie too. :)

I'll check back in here and post my thoughts, once I get the chance to watch it with my folks.
