Napoleon: Total War
« on: August 19, 2009, 04:43:00 pm »

So they just announced another game in the total war series titled Napoleon: Total War.

Anyone else play any of the total war games and planning on picking this up?  I recently got into the series and their now one of my favorite games.  I'm a bit surprised they aren't doing an expansion to Empire first, though.

What do you guys think?

This is dumb. THIS should be the Empires expansion.

It kind of is, except instead of requiring Empire Total War, it's stand alone.  Of course, this also increases the price by like 10 or 20 dollars, but it's not a big deal to me.

I got a email about it from sega, and I would of thought it would be an expansion but instead its a Standalone and i believe it is using the same engine so same specs and shorter wait time as they wont be coding a engine up from scratch. one flaw i do see, Is Napoleon is during E;TW time span So its just a mini mission thing ala road to independence, Which means no grand campaign which means its gunna be a flop hehe.

Why can't they make a Rome 2? WHY!? I still play Rome, I think it is the best in the series by far. Medieval 2 can compare though, but the setting in Rome is so much better, and the units are more interesting.

I like Empire best of all of them to be honest, so i'd like to see an expansion that takes the time period well into the reign of Victoria (possibly ending around the Boer War period)

Empire really disappointed me. The navy fights weren't all that awesome and was basically all about broadsides, most units that were useful were either riflemen with bayonettes or cavalry with swords or the like. I also miss the royalty system a lot, and REAL sieges. Most of the problems I have with the game has to do with the setting, not the game mechanics as you might have noticed.

E;TW was the least realistic of all TW games but then again all TW games are laughable in that department, Ship battles where repetitive Land battles where all about spamming Line infantry and then waiting then fireing, there was no tactics. however war in that period was like that, They did use tactics to a degree. I agree completlty and say they should make a expansion to take it up to boer war or at least Crimea.

If you think tactics don't matter in EMpire you obviously haven't wiped out an army of native americans three times your size without sustaining a single casualty >_>

Haha i managed to take out atleast those sort of odds, in E:TW The one thing i find hard is wiping out archer's They just always decimate me, and if you really want me to prove that to you ill add you on Steam and ill give you a land battle.
