Spore Patch 5
« on: July 21, 2009, 08:10:55 pm »
Spore Improvements:
■Asymmetry is now available for creatures! Details on new Asymmetry features for Creatures and Vehicles can be found here.
■This patch fixes several crashes in Space Game.
■Many tuning improvements to Space Game, including reduced disaster rates at all levels of difficulty, adjustments to Hard Mode, increased limits on concurrent trade routes, as well as changes to tool unlocks for the Knights.
■Creator Lineage appears correctly for all creation types shared after this patch is installed.
■Cheat is included that permits Creators to export creatures in Collada format for use in Maya. Creators must acknowledge and accept a Tools EULA to perform this operation. An additional cheat has been provided to enable highest quality textures to appear on vehicles, where it is supported by user hardware.
■Fixed a problem where creations would go missing if a user quits the game in any way while downloads are in progress.
■Fixed a bug where achievements were disappearing.
■Fixed a bug where some Sporepedia cards had corrupted backgrounds.
■Fixed a problem in Space where some Grox planets were unreachable.
■YouTube movies now publish as public

Galactic Adventures Improvements:
■This patch must be installed again after installing Galactic Adventures, even if you have installed this patch previously.
■You can now place the avatar, NPCs, and handheld objects on top of air, land, and sea vehicles in the Adventure Creator. Get more info here.
■Improvements are made to the Adventure Creator, including right-click camera behavior, and User Interface enhancements.
■In EP1 open gates were not working correctly when they were disguised
■Some customer-reported crashes in Galactic Adventures have been fixed.

----------
Assymetry finally: http://forum.spore.com/jforum/posts/list/0/36030.page
Seems like they've learned a few things from Better Spore.

Cheat is included that permits Creators to export creatures in Collada format for use in Maya, WOOOOOO.

My Assymetrical creature now hangs its head to either side as hes turning. Like a motorcycle. Im not sure if thats a bug or if its supposed to be that way.

It's about friggin' time.

Also, being able to stand on vehicles in adventures means I can redo one of my adventures as I originally planned.

And ever since I downloaded it, no creature animates anymore. They just stay a lifeless ragdoll. Any ideas?
There will be a serious problem with school when Spore comes out...

Awesome! Now I might be able to edit my Civ and Space Jakkaels. They have a bit of asymmetry on them, so the game treats them as over-complex.

That is VERY COOL patch material.

Export of creatures to maya...now it begins look like something.

We must find out more how this works!!!

Many in here would like to render their creatures.

But how does it work?

The thing is that Maya is expensive, and some may rather not try pirating it.

I'm currently researching how to do it with Blender. If I can figure it out then we may have an accessible solution for everyone to see their exported creatures.

trying with poser 7.

When you use the colladaexport command in the debug window it extracts 4 files:

normal.tga
specular.tga
Diffuse.tga

And the yourname.dae file.

I guess any program that can work with .dae will work.

But is trying out to see which ones that are the best.

Full motion well, I am not an maya expert but that would be the program to do it in. Is just trying to get a good photo maybe even a 360 degrees spin. Next will be to make a photo with car, spacecraft, city and creature in it.

As I guessed, the lack of patches was due to the teams that work on Spore being largely occupied with making Galactic Adventures.
Hooray for patches, hooray for fully supported asymmetry, hooray for exportage.

This is when the Spore machina that appears starts to get creative...

I definitely can't wait to see how the community uses the Maya exporting features. Exporting a creature and making it a statue to import into a Sims house, perhaps?  ;D Maybe you could make them really tiny and have your Sims have their own collection of Spore figurines...

Assymetry looks like loads of fun too, I'm looking forward to playing with this patch later. Though it may prevent me from finishing all those adventures I started making and got distracted from halfway through...
If you peruse my things, you get POINTS!

SporeMasterKaliena told me to uninstall Spore, C&C and GA then reinstall Spore, C&C, GA, and the patches.
I haven't tried yet cause i'm too busy but you try, tell me if it works.  ;)

edit: IGNORE THAT SOLUTION, with the help of SMKaliena I was the first to test this solution and it works:
Reinstall GA, then let the patch do it's work again.
lol yeah simple.

Anyone try out the hires texture cheat?  I can't seem to get it to work.  I type highTextureQuality on, and it says "unsupported highTextureQuality: on"

What am I doing wrong?  I have an Nvidia 9800Gt, and would think I could run with high res textures.

Badger, that happens to me with every other patch.  I had to uninstall and reinstall EA download manager, which was a chore in and of itself.

If you find that you need to though, go to your control panel and open Add/Remove Programs. Spore and GA are treated as separate programs so you should be able to uninstall GA alone.

I never got patch 4, so I thought if I got just that I would be fine.  Turns out this problem is patch 4 related.

I still haven't found a work around, though.

I wouldn't download this patch if I were you.

Because it removes over-water building rotation, it ruins a LOT of adventures, including a Maxis adventure.  :P

They're fixing it...but for now, don't try to edit your water adventures for now.

Argh! What the hell?! Ever since I downloaded the patch I can't play spore or GA. I can see the start up and go to create a creature/play an adventure/load a game and it just closes the game window. Argh! so frustrating!  >:(

It did that to me once before, you have to go in and delete some files the install left behind.  I don't remember what files they were, it should be in the official help section somewhere.

Has this patch changed how creatures are animated? For example, make a stickbody with an eye on it. Put some legs, and run it around. The Eyestalk'll now be flung back from the motion, where the eye used to be 'locked' in a position. Same thing with mouths, they are no longer 'locked' or 'stable' things, they'll dangle and bob and it looks crappy.

Actually, the eye thing has been there for ages. Mouths, hands and feet cause that section of the body to be 'anchored'. The mouth is trickier, as it relates to the spine and not its own limb (most of the time). If you place a mouth at one end of a long spine, and then place some legs very close to it, the other end of the body will flap around like a tail or vestigium. The only way a mouth wouldn't anchor the section of the body, is if it was mistakenly placed on something else (such as having a pair of arms spanning from a single, central joint, and placing the mouth on that, instead of the spine, by accident.)
