You won't get far with that, trust me.
Are you challanging me?

I'll make a creature with only one arm, but I'll mould it into the most unique shapes then.

I'll even post a screenie of what you can do with the moulding tool.

You'll see!

Are you talking about the "rig blocks"? Cause i recall they could scale x, y and z axis, rotate x, y and z axis and that was about it. Not like you can change the vectors, splines or anything like that.

I saw the vid! You could make the claws short, toes thick, the spaces small or large and change the angle of the knuckles!

Blitz is right. I saw it too. :)

Yeah, but it still won't mold to any persnicketty detail I can imagine. I might as well render my own parts if I had to just so I can replicate my original concepts perfectly. Not all the parts are there... yet.

Gec is right. All you can do is reform the basic shape. You can't say reform a sphere to look like a face like you could in a real 3D art program.

No, you cannot, but you could probably generate buds to try and form it like that. Not perfect but it works.

To be fair, how many of us created our creatures thinking we could translate them 100% accurately into the game?.

A fair approximation should be satisfactory, since, as you said Hydro, the editors are not as advanced 3D modeling tools as the proffessional or specific stuff you can buy.

But by the looks of all the critters so far, the ingame editors are still pretty good for creating something.

Exactly. And when you think about it its alot more customization than current games can let you do (aside from modding). Also I would be perfectly happy with what I made from the parts as my Naucean. It has the same look and would function more or less the same as I imagined them. In fact what would be cool is giving them tribal clothing. :D

Understandably, the creature editor was mean to give people the ability to make something without 3D modeling knowledge.

When I first saw the Naucean, I figured that there was no way you would be able to put that into the actually game, because of the mandibles/fake mouth. However, since you seem to have come to the attention of the designers, I'm sure they will be certain to make a creature like the Naucean possible.
Kings 2:23-24 --- The Holy Bible
23 From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some youths came out of the town and jeered at him. "Go on up, you baldhead!" they said. "Go on up, you baldhead!" 24 He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youth.

As well as everyone else's over imaginative and complicatedly detailed creatures. :-\

Methinks I should keep it simple from now on so I don't get disappointed.

You can do that or just know it will not always translate over. This is one example why imagination is so much more powerful than any game. But spore comes close to harnessing the power of imagination.

Yeah, but I can see Spore getting bad publicity when reviewers can't translate they're long imagined creature into the game. We will see I guess.

An e-mail from MaxisCactus. :D

Hi Hydro,

Thanks for sharing Naucean, and all your character art, with us.  Your
concept creature has been chosen to be showcased on our website!  The
Maxis development team was very impressed.

We recreated your idea in our creature editor, using slightly different
parts than those that you suggested.  Can't wait to see your next Spore
interpretation of Naucean!

Maxis producer Guillaume Pierre modeled it and had this to say about
Naucean:
"I like the Naucean's part-dolphin part-bird look, especially the color
and shine of the skin. There are some strange appendages coming out of
its mouth."

We even had NASA's Astrobiology Institute evaluate your creature idea.

NASA's evaluation:
"It appears to hail from aquatic origins with tentacles that would
function well in water to aid gathering of prey, and a tail that could
have once aided in swimming."

To see the Spore recreation of your creature, as well as NASA and
developer commentary, visit http://www.spore.com/screenshots.php
