Spore Trading Card Game
« on: May 24, 2009, 10:28:35 am »
Okay, let's do this again and hope it doesn't kill the whole forum with its radiant splendour this time.

I have a working prototype of a Spore Trading Card Game that i've been working on for some months - this isn't just some bandied about idea/project that doesn't get anywhere, it's nearly finished. However, i've ran into something of a stumbling block in that two of the people i've been loaning creatures from haven't gotten their stuff in, so the game's basically been held back for ages.
The rules, mechanics and such of the game are all finished (pending testing, that is), but I actually need cards to play the game with. I've gotten most of a 300-card Starter Pack done, but there are gaps that need filling, and that's where you come in.

I'd like to borrow your creatures and turn them into cards for this battling card game. You will be credited, both in creation of the game in general and individually on each card featuring one of your creatures. Here's how to submit your creature in this topic:

* Creature's Name and a link to it on the Sporepedia
* Creature's level of evolution (Tribe, Civ, Space)
* A picture of the creature (artwork, the png image, doesnt matter)
* A description of the creature's abilities (is it fast, is it tough, what can it do)
* A description of the creature in general (personality, culture, mostly for fluff text and flavoring)

There are the following slots open, numbering 35 in total:
5 Tribal, 15 Civ, 15 Space. All the animal, resource and consequence card slots are taken unfortunatley.

I'll post more detail if requested, but for now I don't want to reveal too much - i'd like people to be able to make their own cards, but letting them do it now before the game is finalised or the balance is understood could create chaos which I don't need to deal with.
This is mostly first-come-first-served, so get your stuff in soon. I'll be picking creatures based on their general quality and development, so don't submit a cell with legs or any of that. XP

Preferably. Just Tribals, Civs and Spaces in general.

Our own creatures, or outfitted creatures already in the deck?

Huh? I'm asking for you to submit your own creatures. You will get credit for them obviously.
I'm not sure I understood your question though, to be honest.

No takers thus far? How about a teaser of what a card looks like, in general:

I hope this stands as proof I fully intend to see this project through to completion. This is not getting left in the dust.

Ok then, try mine.

Name: Sombreron (Beyon Edition)
Level: Space
Abilities: Peddle, Cloaking Device, Sneaky Attack
Description: It is said that a Sombreron can somehow inexplicably make your money vanish from your pocket and into it's grubby little hands. But Wait! If you call now, you can get a set of pocket protectors. Just send your money to this guy here.

Only one? This has been around for nearly 24 hours now and i'm sure there was at least one guy when I posted it before... am I doing something wrong? =s Oh well.

Quote
* Sombreron (GS: Gec) *
HEALTH:  70
ARMOUR:  10
LIMIT:   3
RETREAT: 1 Spice
WEAK:    Scientist

CLOAKING DEVICE (Passive Ability)
Sombreron cannot be attacked or targeted for attacks while it is not in the Active Slot.
PEDDLE (Social, 2 Spice)
If Sombreron is holding an item, you may junk it to search your deck for a resource
card of your choice. Place the resource into play and shuffle your deck.
SNEAKY ATTACK (Attack, 2 Blue)
Inflict 30 damage. This attack cannot be prevented or avoided.

Does this sound reasonable?

To clarify to all, i'm getting all the cards's stats finalised first, then the game tested and finalised, then the actual card images will be created. Given there's 300 cards to do, making the images is going to take a while.

I'll try to get mine up here in a bit as well.  Seems interesting.

So for Pictures, do you just want Spore images or will drawings do as well?

Either, really. You could have art on the card, either doing it yourself or having someone else do it for you. Failing that, ingame screenshots can easily be tarted up a bit to make a decent card art. Uroboros, who posts around here and is a co-creator on this whole project has basically used screenshots of his creatures and then either used filters, brushes or whatever in photoshop to make a decent background behind the creature. I'll give him a nudge towards this topic when I see him.

There's 300 cards though... getting art done for every single one will probably take quite some time.

I'd be willing to help with the art where I can.  A case by case basis.  You give me one you want done up, I do it as soon as I have time, then you give me another.  Just let me get a quick write up and picture done for my Kratair tonight and then feel free to send some art needs my way.

One furthur question.  For the name, should it just be the species or can it be something like say "Empherian Hunter"?

BTW, what is the pixel dimension on the art frame inside the card?

Kratair

http://www.spore.com/sporepedia#qry=sast-500116417787

Level: Space
Abilities: (Some ideas for flavour text too!)
Plasma Bomb (Having worked with plasma since before time immemorable, plasma weapons come as naturally to a Kratair as profit to a Sombreron.)
Natural Selection (Expert survivalists, Kratair are masters of cover, using anything in their reach at a moment's notice, including unlucky allies.)
Hack'n'Slash ("Quit whining.  You didn't need those legs anyway.")
Description: At 9 feet tall, the Kratair have an imposing appearance to say the least.  Luckily, they are usually peaceful intellectuals, unless you piss them off.  Or they're in a bad mood.  Or you look at them funny...

Just a headshot reference picture for now.  I'll try to get something else tomorrow.
