Sounds interesting, but another thing I thought of was why not have the option for minecraft to take place in a kind of full MMO, on one planet. This way, settlements could be developed due to the high number of people, maybe establishment of trade... Unlikely though that this will ever happen.

I kind of laugh when I think about how the mascot of the whole game, was created because of a glitch while creating pigs, and the creator going "Heh, alright."

Soon.

So I'm a little excited about this thing. It should certainly make Minecraft interesting again, for a little while anyway.
I'm gonna host a fresh map after the update comes out. It will likely be buggy but whatever.

    * new (and expanded) biomes
    * 1.8 will add Creative Mode
    * Creative Mode will have flight

Have some video from PAX.

A more condensed demo of 1.8.

One thing that I like with the new lighting is that when the sun starts going down, you don't see a wave of darkness move across the land.  It's instant.

It's really starting to come together now and they're starting to polish it, and tighten up the graphics™.

With the 1.8 update coming out we will probably have to start a new map, and say goodbye to Faffington, to see all the new stuff. But there is another option. We could go to the neither and build a tunnel to a faraway place, (much like the snowy area on the map) and when the update hits we activate the portal out, and have a new land that generates with the 1.8 code. Lady M can then set the Spawn to the new world and people can still go back and visit/live in the old world.

There could be a couple draws backs to this. 1) Notch adds some new features to the neither and we would miss out of those and 2)The server will have a hard time with an even more giant map. Also Lady M having to generate the map for us to look at. Now really it's Lady M's call but i'm tossing it as an idea for us to kick around and perhaps give us time to make the neither rail to take us to this new world when it hits.

EDIT* also this

If the increased height maps make it into the update, I say we abandon Faffington and make a city in a giant rock spire!

A city on the side of a cliff wouldn't have creepers :P

Half of the people we play with still don't close doors. There would be creepers...

I don't usually look around too much for texture packs. I was considering switching to Doku's until I discovered JohnSmith's pack.
It's a very nice 32x32 pack and it includes a customizer if you want to adjust certain blocks. I just went with default.

So I thought I'd pop around our old maps and have a look at things.
