What's that big red thing on the river-picture? Looks like a giant mushroom.

Get away from the giant mushroom, Brandon.

Hmm. Thinking about it, Notch can do a heck of a lot more with Minecraft than he has. The Adventure update may or may not be very nice, kind of how I don't give a rat's ass about Dwarf Fortress's Adventure mode, but I think Notch could make the map much nicer, maybe even reasonably finite and faux-spherical(hell, even true spherical if he felt like dealing with the problems that would probably create), so you could fly around the planet with the sun or something. Make it so the map is created by tectonics and the biomes by climate algorithms based on wind, rain, etc. There's a lot of stuff that could make it a really interesting semi-simulation.

And my main reasoning is because of the seemingly random way biomes are created, and that scarcity isn't present. As things stand, if you want more resources, you just run off somewhere and dig. If the world were a finite 'planet' then this works for a pretty good while, but you do run out of easy access minerals eventually. It could even be an option that you flip on and off for map creation: Infinite, Finite. Throw in varying levels of mineral density across the planet, and you've got a recipe for trade.

I think he has said he wanted to do a finite map at some point, at the very least a Creative Mode-like option.

And it would be interesting to see a more realistic world.

Well, because Notch is such a crappy coder, it takes longer and longer for each update because he never kept the source organized.

I just had an idea prompted by Raz's paragraph. Minecraft could be made into a pseudo-MMO by having each account act as a planet in a solar system, with each map being represented by a moon in the planet's orbit. Players could make airships to fly between maps and servers! And of course, but barriers to the outside to prevent unwanted griefing.

We ran a server a while back where we split the world into different sectors that were only reachable by massive bridges that had to be built.

Sort of a primitive version of your very awesome idea!

Maybe have the orbit distances depending on the distance of the user from Stockholm :P

Maybe make a craftable telescope that lets you tell what planets are which users... I'm getting ideas!
