Yeah there's no way I wandered out THAT far. I got lost in a big desert, and the only big-ish desert on there looks to be within acceptable limits. Is it not possible to load the map file in something and delete those excess chunks? Also as far as limitation/boundaries go would there be a way to place some kind of visual wall ingame so that players know not to go further than it or risk punishment?

As for the new map, I happen to have been mucking around with seeds in the single player world generator to see what seeds make good worlds. Here's some I found on my own which are good (exactly as typed, without quotation marks):

"zaks" = deserty area, large cliffs with waterfalls and natural surface lava pit, also a large cloud-level forest on a mountain a bit further out from spawn
"e=mc2" = large desert interspersed with small oceans, also large forest (mind the cactus)
"bromeliad" = snow land, easy rolling hills, large frozen sea
"ss13" = start in snowy bay/cove, high cliffs, lots of odd mountains around
"weezing" = islands/archipelago
"hyrule" = grassland bay surrounded by snow lands

And here's some I ganked from other sources:

"gargamel" = start in a cave in a giant valley
"404" = dig in the gravel near spawn to ride to bottom of world

This one has a lot to explore within tolerable bounds, and the abundance of mountains is sure to keep everyone comfortably separate from each other's view. And there are plenty of interesting features. And not to mention large cave systems that are nearby.

That 404 drop is neat.

This is really good. Digging the small land-bridges between mountains, also that weird bare rock face. How often does bare rock occur on the surface anyway? Seeing a whole side of a hill just as exposed rock is a novelty.
Give "zaks" a try, it's my favourite seed so far. Spawn has a large mountain with waterfalls, a small desert and a lava pool on the surface for easy sacrifices I guess? If you travel a little way out from spawn (not too far) you can find some really tall mountains with forests at cloud level, lots of overhangs and such.

If you start a new map, could you keep it spawn free? It's nice to have diamond tools instantly, but working for your materials is a big part of the game.

Also, may I inquire as to what difficulty the game is currently set at?

Difficulty is set at 10,000.

As for me spawning items for you. You don't have to accept my gifts. It's your own fault if you keep them and it ruins your experience.

I started a singleplayer at school after I finished my programming class and still had a good 40 minutes left of class time

2 dungeons next to each other at spawn, clay, lava, an amazing bay with a alcove perfect for a starting point and tons of caverns to explore first

why don't I ever get these kind of maps when I play on my home computer

With the help of Clarke and Lippy (with consultation by Santa), THE GATE is now complete. And locked. :)

EDIT: Ah, good. Back to normal.

I was actually referring to the whitelist you posted a while back, Pat.
You can probably find me, if you have pesterchum, under burningOrigins or cantankerousZealot.

What is more unsettling is that the speed you had there was in the 42nd percentile for Canada.

Next time ask me about the white list now, rather than accusing me based on old information.

FYI, 1.5 has been released.

Quote
* Weather (rain, snow, thunder)
* Statistics
* Achievements
* Detector rail
* Booster rail
* Performance improvements

More statistics and achievements will be added over time as we develop the game. They’re only stored locally at the moment, but we’ll slowly be rolling out online storing of achievements over time.

Hope performance improvements allow me to host again. I'll be asking people to test it out when I get up later.
