Yes, I'd like to requistion space in the Spawn square for a church to the sun on the hill. Here:

Here's some conception shots from Creative Mode:

4 blocks high (+3 blocks for roof), 8 blocks wide, 16 blocks deep.

I think a vaulted ceiling looks more interesting than a flat one (but it'll still need the same amount of blocks).

Inside. The leaf blocks are standing in for pews, to be made in the same way as the couch near the station, but only one block in length. Notice the staggard windows.

I am planning on making it bigger (Church evolves into Cathedral) but only when we have a foothold in the nether, as my plan for that requires lightstone and fireblocks.

For the first housing area, perhaps we could go with roman-style housing? Basically build long rectangle whose width faces the perimeter of the zone all along the exterior. The interior would be free to design individually, but it would keep things organized.

Yeah, way to suck all the fun out of makin' stuff.

I mean, I'm not against making sure things look nice but planning things down to what buildings people can build? :/

I think it's good to have some level of restriction in these things. You get a lot of cooperation and creative thinking.
Else you just have single dudes roaming and staking a claim in the middle of infinite space where nobody really knows or cares that you're around. It effectively renders the game single-player.

It might be a little out of some people's comfort zones to partake in stuff like this, but I think it's good for them if they give it a try.

However, we do need to make sure we focus on just a few related things at a time. Otherwise everybody is running a project of their own and we're stuck with single-player again.

I was directing that comment more at Clarke's post Gauph.

I understand that its pointless to play the game in multiplayer if everyone is just going to do their own thing off in the wild somewhere but I think it really goes against the spirit of minecraft to start telling people what kind of rectangular houses they should be building.

Hmm. Clarke's post just gave me an idea for some reason.

We need to design a maze. An entire zone as a maze.
Also, I don't mind if a zone takes a theme so long as a general design can be carried to the end. If all the buildings are exactly the same though, that could get a bit monotonous..
Actually, that might look cool if we use an entire zone to make a completely symmetrical housing area with varying building shapes and locations.

edit:

the road next to the big pillar thingy is 136 long btw, from middle of the crossroad to middle of the corner, wich should be 128
so uh, nice ****up i guess

I'm not sure I'm understanding correctly. The roads don't count as part of the 128x128. They're just divisions between the zones. The 128x128 is easily found counting from corner to corner.
If I could get in there and look at this just to be sure, I'd have a look myself.
Bleh.

Oh, right. I'll generate a cartographer map. Let's see...
Wait, what "big pillar thingy"?
I'm looking at the map but I don't see anything wrong with the roads.

Bah, I want to log in. Can't log into my own damn server.'

EDIT: Aha! Offline mode, you are my savior.

EDIT2: Everything seems fine.

EDIT3: I see other people trying to connect in the server console thing here.
Just keep trying. Eventually it seems to let you in. Clarke got in that way.
I don't understand what the hell is wrong with this crap today.

How do I get on the server again?
No, no, he did. In the everything else section, at least. Officially, this makes him king.

Oh, alright.  Thanks for clearing that up Gauph.  Me and Celdur were just having some issues with the spacing of pillars in the subway.  It was late so it didn't cross our minds that the roads weren't part of the 128.  Makes sense now.

It appears that at an intersection, there are three squares between pillars, then 15 thereafter.

Here's a map I rendered from like a day ago.

And here's the latest.

The size difference is likely from a few of us wandering through mines and caves really far out.

I would like to requisition an area somewhere to build my shrine as to add a more open choice of silly minecraftian religion.
