The steps of the station are done.

Shall I fill in the pillars with smoothstone (the outside at least)?

I was just looking at the station and you know what I was thinking?  If we did the floor into some sort of mosaic pattern it would probably look really cool.

Flatten everything, and arrange the town in perfect squares.

Could you lay out some basic plans for when you're gone, Gauph? I've been attempting to get on at the same time as you for days, and I haven't been able to. I would really like to help.

So sorry I didn't show up all day, guys. I felt like crap so I slept for a loooong time.
Now I have to go to work in an hour.
At least I'm not doing anything this weekend. I think.. I usually don't anyway.

Celdur is going forward with the subways beneath the main roads; those go directly underneath and are 5 wide and 5 tall, surrounded by stone. Celdur is handling the design there. Now is the time to voice opinion before it gets huge.
Good to see a couple of you have been clearing the landscape a bit too. That's good.

So we'll flatten and develop city hall. Not sure what the design there will be, but I'd like the thing to be quite impressive.

And I've opened up residential zone #1 for building. Start small and work with others to come up with a design that works in. Clear and flatten a little at a time and make modest structures first before you take on huge stuff, if you have an idea, share it with the crew and they'll help you realize it if they're available
So again, avoid just wandering off into the back corner on your own and building a little house; we need to work together to make a functional-looking and attractive city that players could actually use.
Consider the space in the zone; just because there's a lot of space now doesn't mean a huge building isn't going to be a tremendous obstruction later.
And consider streets and walking space. Don't mash it all together. I was thinking streets could be 5 wide, sidewalks not necessary.

Working together on design and planning is important. If someone wants to take charge, present an idea and see if people want to go for it.
For future reference, I do not want it to suddenly go from a small couple of cabins or apartments into OMG HUGE COBBLESTONE CASTLE FORT THAT TAKES UP HALF THE ZONE.
No. No no no. Will not fly. If you see anybody doing that sort of mismatched and out-of-place construction, stuff that is overly grand or unimpressive and puny compared to the surroundings, stuff that uses a completely different material type and doesn't quite fit in, please kindly ask them to stop.

That's all I can think about right now.

EDIT: Oh yeah. If you're bored and really would like to do something, just start expanding those roads. Zones are 128x128. Count from one corner of the zone (not the road) to the other; I place trunks as markers every 32 tiles, and then just count back from 1 to 32 again for the next count, four times in all. Easier to keep track.
Look at the others to see how it goes.
When in doubt though, just keep that road going straight for awhile. We can do the divisions later.

Sounds like a plan.  I'll probably get started clearing up the industrial zone once the subway is figured out

Subway line planned.  Going around the perimeter of all the main blocks as illustrated here in blue and green.

One line goes one way, the other the other way.

i was thinking more like

(800 hours in ms paint)

tracks are still the same size but its much better located so you can get on easier

edit:

the road next to the big pillar thingy is 136 long btw, from middle of the crossroad to middle of the corner, wich should be 128
so uh, nice ****up i guess

I'd like to be on when my house is destroyed, if at all possible.

Or at least pictures.

Also, I have a plan to make a sort of laboratory/mansion kind of thing, I don't quite know exactly how big it would end up, but in any case, what block would that fall into? Residential? Industrial?

Also, maybe the block around the spawn could be reserved for civic services? just a small warehouse, cobblestone generator, things like that for players just coming in maybe.
And grassy areas, 'cause grassy areas are nice.
