Well, alright. But the place better not be a mess when I get online later (going to bed). :|
Try to keep exploration down a bit too (just a bit) until Notch fixes biomes so they're bigger or whatever.

The restrictions will be lifted (to some extent) after the structure has been set. So don't do anything substantial at this time.
Gathering and crafting in preparation would be nice though.

This is what happens when you listen to too much Dragonforce. :I

Yeah, [Kishmond] came back from Africa, but the ponies have him now.

Someone care to try this?
http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1016&t=80975#p1233343
Let us know how that goes.

Right-clicking on the pig makes you get on and off of it.  Right-click to throw a snowball.  So, if you try to throw it at the pig, you dismount.  You have to aim just right at its head.  And it's hard to do because when the pig's head moves, your view moves too.

It works.  Just not practical in any way shape or form.

Just found a dungeon surrounded by ores.

Got me some bread and gunpowder and iron.

EDIT: The furnaces are *mostly* working properly. Just make sure you put in the fuel before the raw materials.

Ok, so me and my friends server had a backup problem. In all we lost about 2 hours of work.

Anyway, this is what my friend is working on:

He lost a good amount of the wall.
We have the server take screen shots of the world every once in a while from above.

Here is how he is getting a long since I saw it last:

(Cropped it so you could see what I'm talking about)

I wish I could log in, but the company who runs our server won't let us patch it ourselfs. They have to do it.
I'll post what I've been working on later (It's not as cool though)

Alright, we may have found out what the deal is with furnaces.
Just don't let them touch each other. They get retarded.

Keep them separate, like a block away. Then it's all good.
We've got like four furnaces making smooth stone.

I'll post a pic of the base of the station before I head out.

EDIT: Oh, wait. Maybe they still eat a bit of items.
It sure seems like a lot less though.
Or maybe we got lucky. Grr.

EDIT2: No, they definitely seem to behave better when separated.

Anyway, here's picture.

I guess you can't make out the names as much as I'd hoped. That's Badger, Brandon, and ilikesanta there.
Others helped as well but I thought I'd get these guys in there. The road is underway as well, as you can see. We're gonna turn a huge chunk of the map into a grid and build within the city blocks. It's gonna look pretty sweet and I appreciate that you guys are going for it.
I'm gonna let you guys name the streets too, with roadsigns and stuff.

Just don't do much with the station at the moment. Have a look around if you like.
I'm gonna get back in there tomorrow and keep up with the designs.

Oh yes I added street lamps along the side of the road just recently. If nobody likes them then I will remove them but they are there right now non-the-less.

So we're clear to begin building then?  Or are we still just expanding the plateau?

I finished off the steps leading up to the house, plus did some more of the road.

Plus, I captured these while the map was loading:

Also, would it be OK if my younger brother went on as well? He's very well behaved. And house trained.

Not quite yet. I'll finish the station with my time today (Remembrance Day, holiday, no work) and get the roads all done up to establish our first city block, 128x128 squares.
Then we can build stuff within the block and other blocks after the grid starts to form up.
We won't do it this way indefinitely, but we'll carry it on for awhile yet.

If people want work, there's still a good amount of stuff to do--

*Plenty of cobblestone. I don't care if you have to fill up two chests plus. Keep it coming.
*on that note, a fair amount of smooth stone as well
*smelt all iron and gold; if you find diamond and have some to spare, make some picks for other workers to increase speed
*go into the mines and dig out any soil. Might as well. We need it for elevation raising
*harvest any and all coal you find.
*plenty of glass as well. I'm making a semi-domed/arched kind of roof for the station later on. I'll need a few hundred I figure.

Sorry for holding up the show. I'll get it done and we'll move forward.

Martyk had an idea for a stone obelisk. I thought it'd be cool to feature it somewhere so I figured we could set aside an entire city block at some point to be a park. That'd be pretty cool, eh?
Trees, maybe a pond, some fences and paths, flowers... and the obelisk could stand ominously in the center. :D
If you guys have other ideas, let us hear it. We could certainly do some interesting zoning aside from the stuff I was thinking of. All I really had in mind at the beginning of this was having a bunch of apartment towers, office towers, a warehouse.. I dunno.

Back in a bit anyway. zzz

I'd like to do a clocktower, somewhere at the edge so it'd be visible.

Maybe it could be incorporated into the station.  Trainstations generally have those sorts of things.
